Joan Baez @ Grand Rex, Paris Oct 12 2011
Joan Baez has never been so popular in France, that's her fourth and last show @ Grand Rex (two shows in June and yesterday & Today) all sold out. 10 000 people in all.
She played last month @ Fête de L'Humanité in front of more than 50 000 people.
She also did a few shows in France.
Last time we saw her, was @ Palais des Congres in 2008.
At the time she was playing with a full band, tonight there's just a banjo player , who's also playing acoustic bass and piano.
When you have good songs like she does, an acoustic guitar is enough, you don't need much.
Suzanne Vega is doing the same and her gigs ( @ Alhambra in 2008 & Théatre Marigny in 2010 ) are just great.
She did "le Deserteur" in French without guitar and played a John Lennon cover.
Of course most if not all songs were political.
Great gig, Great conditions to attend such a gig, confortably seated in the sofas of the Grand Rex.
See ya there on sunday afternoon for the Première of the Martin Scorsese documentary on George Harrison : " Living in a Material World", Olivia will attend.

Joan with Marianne Aya Omac (far left)
Joan Baez took the time and made the effort to introduce many of the songs in fluent French even. She started the gig on her own , center stage with her acoustic guitar, sound is perfect: clear and not loud at all and the lightshow is minimal.
She's playing most of her hits, covers of Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan... check setlist for details.
She's joined on a couple of songs by Marianne Aya Omac for a couple of Spanish songs which had the audience singing some "OOOOOlllléééééééééééé".
She (Marianne) has a great voice and the Spanish-style guitar playing is stunning but you really wonder what she was doing here.

"Félins" exhibition Vernissage for French Street-artist Mosko @ Galerie Oblique.
That's the kind of street art that we really like @ Rockerparis, you've already seen some street paintings on this site.(HERE and other pages I can't find)
Always a nice way of getting the city more beautiful and better than those fucking tags.

Lots of people for this vernissage tonight, street-art has never been so popular.
We had the pleasure of having the artist(s) doing a stencil LIVE on the wall next to the Galerie.
It's always very interesting to know how these guys are doing specially when the painting is very difficult with lots of small details ( watch video below).

Heavy Pop-Rock Belgium Band DEUS is playing L'Album de la Semaine to promote their brand new album "Keep You Close".
We have the chance to hear 7 new songs before the beginning of the tour @ London's Koko on Oct 11th.
Solid pop-rock songs, the new single is the more catchy song with keyboards and a nice hook.
Last song (They did it twice) was the typical Deus song with tension building up.
They could have played a couple of their hits as an encore but overall very good gig.
Deus has done a few promotional shows these last few days, listen ( and watch) their session @ France Inter radio HERE and @ Franco-German tv show One Shot Not HERE

British sea Power @ Nouveau Casino, Paris Oct 08 2011
English band British Sea Power @ Nouveau Casino.
Not a lot of people for saturday night when the opening band is getting on stage, can't tell you their name , they were ok.
6 musicians for BSP including a girl on violin, sometimes they do have 3 guitars.
Cool pop-rock songs that can make you think of the Pixies, some are more heavy and others more pop with trumpet or piano.
It' was hard to hear the violin when 3 guitars were playing but it was a nice touch on softer songs.
Lively atmosphere in the audience with some happy jumping & pogoing, the club is now quite full though not packed.
The band is keeping the most epic songs à la Arcade Fire for the end of the 80 min set.

Very good gig, sorry no photos or videos as Patrice, our photographer, forgot his memory cards at home... so unprofessional !!!

Brett Anderson @ La Machine du Moulin Rouge, Paris Oct 07 2011
Brett Anderson the lead singer from English brit-pop band Suede is back in Paris less than a year after a sold-out Elysée Montmartre with Suede.
Unfortunately he's not as popular as the band he's fronting, it's far from being full to say the least.
We're absolutely not familiar with his solo songs or with any of his material with Suede apart from a couple of songs. We never liked Brit-pop bands in the 90's.
Nevertheless we attented a good gig, not all the songs are great but he has a powerful and distinctive voice and he's a great showman.
He played two songs on the piano ( see setlist for details).
When he left the stage the audience was asking for more but it looks like La Machine had a party going on afterwards so no extra songs.

Sean Lennon, The GOASTT @ Café de la Danse, Paris Oct 06 2011
We were NOT there as we attented an Oliver Peel session but a friend of mine send me this:

Pictures from the show HERE (including with Mathieu Chédid)
Setlist included: "Dead Meat", "Song for James", "Dark Matter, White Noise", "Jardin du Luxembourg"

Conquering Animal Sound @ Oliver Peel session #41, Paris Oct 06 2011
Sniff, sniff... Last Oliver Peel session at the appartment of the Avenue Duquesne near the Eiffel Tower.
It's a mid-week session so it wasn't as packed as last saturday but still lots of people to celebrate.
Tonight it's a band, in fact a duo from Scotland: Conquering Animal Sound.
This duo have just released an album this year which had rave reviews in the press.
For once @ Oliver's it's not a folk band with banjo.
They do sound like a Scandinavian Electro-pop band, Bjork would be proud.
As you can see on Pics lots of electronic on the stage but they still do sound organic with lots of voices loops.
Refreshing ambient pop songs.
