Elvis The Concert @ Zénith, Paris March 29 2012

Elvis The Concert @ Zénith, Paris march 29 2012

Elvis is still alive & well more than 35 years after his death.
As we were at the press Conference for the Hellfest we were very late and the fact that we had trouble getting tickets we've missed a good 30 min of the first part.
It's a medium size Zénith and all seated event, Elvis fans are getting older and older... not I'm jocking there are quite a few young people in the audience.
Cool to see that Elvis is still as popular in France specially when he is only on a screen with his band, The TCB playing live.
Lots of musicians on stage there's a classical orchestra led by Joe Guercio, The Imperials (Male Backing vocalists), The Sweet Inspirations (Female backing vocalists) plus the original live band : The TCB minus bass player Jerry Scheff, who's missing for the second time (last show two years ago was Nathan East on bass), this time his substitute is Elvis' session man Norbert Putman.
Of Course Glen D Harding is on piano, Ronnie Tutt on drums & James Burton on guitar.

Norbert Putnam on bass

It's basically the same show as two years ago, I guess it will never change as they probably don't have too many live footage of Elvis that they can use for the show.
Complete setlist here.
Most of the footage are coming from "Aloha from Hawaii" & "That's the way it is" with a couple of songs from the "Comeback special '68".

Glen D Harding / Ronnie Tutt/ James Burton
It's like attending a real Elvis Presley concert as they kept the same running order, it might be weird if you're attending for the very first time but you're getting used very quickly and then you don't even noticed that Elvis is on a screen.

Fans are well behaved for rockers staying seated for the whole first set.
There's a 20 min intermission and a voice is inviting you to get stuff at the merchandising, Remember It's business first.
For the second half in the second set the audience is finally standing up and getting closer to the stage trying to get something signed or to get the best picture of one of the musicians.
The TCB might be getting older and older , they are aging well and can deliver like young kids will do.

great 2 hour show !!!

HELLFEST 2012

Press conference @ Gibus club in Paris , 6:00pm

They did tell us a few things:
-OZZY will play with Slash & Zak Wylde
-It's a 35 000 capacity maximum every day
-It's a new site a few yards from the original
-6 stages
-No photographers will be allowed for Motley Crue ( same as 2 years ago)
-They are "expecting" Guns N Roses to be late
-Van Halen should have headlined (They were in contact with them for a few months before the band decided to play only the US)
-They would like to have Iron Maiden, but not in the near future as they will be headlining Sonisphere next year ( A scoop ?!?)

Dionysos @ Fnac Montparnasse, Paris March 28 2012

Powerful 35+ min set by French Pop-Rockers Dionysos to promote new album "Dionysos plays Bird'n Roll".
Once again a band that is playing a showcase with all their live equipment, stage clothes and that is giving it all on stage, specially the singer , a pint size little fellow who's jumping up and down like a maniac including some stage diving and crowd surfing (see picture above).
Very entertaining show in front of a dedicated audience.
Signing session after but we left before.

Lee Fields @ L'Album de la Semaine, Paris March 26 2012

setlist

Funk & Soul singer Lee Fields & The Expressions is promoting his new album by playing Canal+ tv show L'Album de la Semaine.
35 min of great soul & Funk music with some vocals à la James Brown for this veteran singer.
Neat vintage songs with sax and trumpet with some cool grooves.
His version of Bobby Hebb's "Sunny" was terrific.
Just mix James brown, Otis Redding, Sam & Dave and you have Lee Fields.

Peter Doherty @ Olympia, Paris March 21 2012

Peter Doherty @ Olympia, Paris March 21 2012
For "Rock The Gibus". Master of ceremony Philippe Manoeuvre
with The Marginals, Big Money makers, Big Dist Allstars, Sex Assets & Waste Management
"Rock the Gibus" @ Olympia tonight, this is the final of the competition for french rock bands that started at the Gibus club in Paris a while ago, 2 of them have been selected after numerous scouting in clubs around France and each one is playing 4 songs tonight: only one winner.
Nina Hagen who was supposed to headline has cancelled yesterday and Peter Doherty has been asked for help.

We were a bit late as ROCKERPARIS is not only dealing with Rock'n Roll but also with Diplomacy (We sometimes have to work) as we had to attend a party at the UNESCO in Paris to promote The Sakha (Yakutia) Republic from the Russian Federation. I've never seen people fighting so much to get to the buffet even though they were all diplomats or ambassadors, funny, specially when the food was from the country and awful. Anyway we attended a very beautiful show at the end, the costumes were terrific and Yakutian female dancers very sexy.

MC PhilMan / Big Money Makers / Big Dist Allstars

We've missed the first band The Marginals and just in time to see MC Philippe Manoeuvre introducing Big Money Makers. They were quite good for a french band but there's still a huge gap with English or American band from the same age.
Hard to believe but the Balcony is half empty (or half full) and you could do some bicycle in the pit downstairs that is 2/3 empty, so probably just a few hundred rockers in this 2500 capacity theater.
Then we had Big Dist Allstars, much more heavy à la Rage Against the Machine, not bad too.
Last band, if I understood well, was just a guest and were pretty average.
Sex Assets & Waste Management / The Jury / The Winners: Big Money makers

After another short intermission , the jury, some boring old farts, have decided that the winner is Big Money Makers, funny that we were handed flyers for their EP on our way out, they already have sponsors like Deezer, iTunes, Facebook, Amazon so there's probably big money to support them. So I guess the fact that they ere the winners is no surprise for the big oils.

Peeeete !

Anyway who gives a shit as we are here for Nina Hagen...sorry Peter Doherty who's playing an acoustic show.
We've already seen him a thousand times in clubs playing acoustic, this one was no different, not better or badder.
On stage for less than an hour , no encore, same as usual.
Don't ask me for the setlist, he played his hits ("What a waster, Tell the king, unbilotitled"...) , a bit of a Georges Brassens song ("Les Copains d'abord").
I guess Nina Hagen would have been more fun.
Another Nice night out !
I'm just wondering tonight: where are the rock teenagers gone ?
Peter wondering where has his audience gone
