Jamiroquai @ Bercy, Paris Nov 22 2011

Jamiroquai @ Paris Bercy , Nov 22 2011
My first show on this tour , they've already played a sold-out show a few months ago @ Paris Bercy, this time it's not officially sold-out but the pit downstairs is rammed and it's hard to find a seat in the stalls.
We already saw them @ The Olympia for a small private show in March (link to review below) and the band was smoking.
We had to endure a DJ as support, the end of his set was welcomed.
For Jamiroquai the stage is simple but beautiful with a huge screen in the back playing lots of very bright a nd colourful images and movies, and some planets hanging from the ceiling.
Jay is dressed with a green jacket and is still dancing a doing his little moves maybe not as much as a few years ago and the voice is perfect.
He complained a bit to his sound engineer for the sound in his monitors but we're used to that.
Technically and soundwise the show was perfect, these guys know how to play & groove.
A 2 hour show without any breaks as songs are played one after another maybe some of them are sounding a bit the same in the end but an overall very good show.
They've modified the arrangements on some songs and they added a few extras at the end.
Groovy gig

Motorhead @ Zénith, Paris Nov 21 2011

Motorhead + No One Is Innocent @ Zénith Paris, Nov 21 2011
Motorhead is back at the zénith in Paris, Medium size 4000 capacity.
We get there early, No One Is Innocent is already on stage, powerful show as usual.
The zénith though not sold-out is packed with fans in their 40's most of them fat & bald, we haev some youngsters too, it's sweat & beer for everybody tonight, like in the old days, good !

Nice start with "Bomber", they changed the first song of the show @ every gig but the rest is quite the same: meaning 2 songs from the new album, 3-4 songs from the last 10 year period and the rest is just oldies but goodies. (see setlist below for details).
Same stage as usual , just a small backdrop , a VERY loud sound not that good and some shitty lights, impossible to take a decent picture but Patrice is used so he gave up years ago.
We have a lousy drum solo in the middle of "The one to sing the Blues".
Not the best show I've seen them perform, far from it, it sounds like they don't play as fast as they used to which is a good thing on some songs: "Stay Clean", "Metropolis" (here on video).

Overall Good show.

Loney Dear + Oscar & The Wolf + Dillon @ Fleche d'Or, Paris Nov 19 2011

Loney Dear + Oscar & The Wolf + Dillon @ Fleche d'Or, Paris Nov 19 2011

Dillon

First on the stage of La Fleche d'Or for her French ever show is German Female singer Dillon with a guy on electronic devices, minimalist electronica music for Dillon, Her magnetic voice and her laid-back melancolic electro attracted people who listened to her religiously.
Don't know why but she broke down in tears in the middle of the penultimate song, everything went back to normal for the last one.
Oscar & The Wolf

Then we had Belgian pop-folk band Oscar & the Wolf for some slow-tempo songs, more joyful or up-tempo songs wouldn't be a crime.
Cool set tough.
Loney Dear

Swedish multi-instrumentalist Emil Svanängen aka Loney Dear is closing this night.
He left his band is Sweden and is playing on his own , well almost there's a Swedish girl on keys and backing vocals.
For this set Emil is singing, playing guitar, doing percussions & playing all the rest ("bass", home made live recordings & loops) with his feet.
I really wonder how he can enjoy playing gigs when he has to concentrate on so many things at the same time.
It looks like he can't all the time as he had to restart a couple of songs but he took it with a laugh so is the audience of dedicated fans.
An hour set of experimental pop-folk that went very well.

Marie -Flore + 4 guys from the Future @ Colette, Paris Nov 17 2011 5:00PM

updated Nov 19 with link to more Pics from this show

Marie Flore
+ 4 Guys From The Future @ Colette, Paris Nov 17 2011
Music Box N°9

Small show @ the downstairs Water bar of Colette store, Rue St Honoré.
As we're waiting for friends outside while the DJ is playing music downstairs Peter Doherty and a French actress are getting out of a cab and are making their way into the store.
I guess he's here to see Marie-Flore who opened on some of his shows.
It's a free show, general admission but there are not too many people; free drinks , bagels & muffins for all.
Last time we were here was just 2 years ago on Nov 16 2009 to attend a reading with Lou Reed.

Marie-Flore is playing with her new band a 6-7 songs set, she's much more rock than she used to and is playing new songs from her, to be release, album.
Cool set. (Peter had already left the premises without attending)

More Pics from the show HERE @ Oliver's + review HERE

After a short intermission Danish psyche rock band 4 Guys From The Future are playing a 30 min set of Shoegaze -psyche music.
Cool set too
A friend of mine told me that Jared Leto was there and stayed a couple of minutes.
Cool party but they kicked us out as everything had to be packed up by 7:00pm as there was an other party afterwards in the same room.

Lana Del Rey to play @ L'Album de la Semaine for Canal+

New American pop sensation Lana Del Rey will play a private concert for L'Album de la Semaine on Canal+ on Nov 23rd.

Paul Personne @ Oui FM, Paris Nov 16 2011

Paul Personne @ Oui FM, Paris Nov 16 2011

French Blues guitar player Paul Personne played a showcase in the lobby of Parisian rock radio OUI FM to promote the release of his new album.
35 min + set with some laid back songs from the new album that are really sounding like the band America : Soft voice, acoustic guitars, cool tunes, some percussion and great harmony backing vocals, last songs were a bit more blues orientated like he used to do.
We had a couple of covers in the end JJ Cale's "Call me the Breeze" and Blues classic "Hoochie Coochie Man".
Great gig, it was broadcasted live on the radio, there should be a podcast in a couple of days, not to be missed.
Then there was some goodies to win: cds, bandana, limited edition compass and an Epiphone guitar.
The lucky Bastard wasn't me !
new single "J'ai revé":

"Some Girls" Live in Texas 1978 , private screening in Paris, Nov 15 2011

"Some Girls" Live in Texas 1978, Private screening @ Club de L'Etoile

(Thanks to Doctor Stones) click on poster above for tracklisting and more

We're just back from the screening, well It was the first time I was seeing any live video from this Tour, no questions asked: this tour was smoking !
Technically it's perfect: sound and image are terrific.
Filmed at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth, Texas, on 18th July 1978.
The band is on top form, including Ian McLagan and Ian Stewart on keyboards ( no close shots of both of them for the whole set).
Much better recorded than Ladies & Gentlemen, funny to see the way people were dressing up back in 1978.
You could imagine that back in those days they were playing arenas, in fact no, as the Fort Worth arena is all seated and no bigger that Brixton Academy.
The only wrong thing is the way Mick Jagger is dressed up (Sneakers, red socks, a kind of leather jogging, a Punk "destroy" with svastiska tee-shirt, a beige jacket and red cap) and the way he's dancing: it's ridiculous.
Apart from this it's amazing, and we haven't seen any of the bonuses.

Izia @ L'Album de la Semaine, Paris Nov 14 2011

Izia @ L'Album de la Semaine, Paris Nov 14 2011

French female rock singer Izia is back with a second album "So Much Trouble".
We already saw her on stage several times, despite the fact that she's only 20, she opened a few years ago for The Stooges @ Palais des Sports and Motorhead last year.
Good old classic rock and a voice à la Janis Joplin, she's giving it all on stage.
We were lucky to be the first one to hear the new album in its (almost) entirety.
Maybe some songs need a bit more work specially the musicians' parts.
They tried the last song but she couldn't do it as her voice was fucked so we had another song instead ("?") then she played one very soft one on piano (great voice) , after discussions with the staff she played "She" one more time. They asked her for another one but she couldn't , she felt so sorry we thought she was about to break down in tears when she left the stage.

It will teach her a lesson she has to know how to save her voice and not giving it all like she did.
Don't worry baby you're young and you're doing very good.
