Gossip @ Paris Bercy Déc 09 2010

Another great video, "Heavy Cross" & Beth saying hello to French Crowd, too bad the last part is missing when she's crossing the pit from one side to the other:

Gossip
@ Paris Bercy
Dec 09 2010

Gossip playing @ Paris Bercy, I must be fuckin' dreaming.
It's really amazing the first time they've played in Paris was at the Point Ephémère, then they've played (not in that order) the Boule Noire, The Fleche d'or, The Nouveau Casino, The Studio 104 @ Radio France, The Casino de Paris, 2 sold-out Bataclan (second show HERE), last time was 2 sold-out shows @ The Zénith (6500 capacity) and NOW @ Bercy, 16500 capacity.
Click on links for review Pics, video & setlist.
Ok it's not sold out, around 12 000 people, there are black curtains at the very back to cover empty seats but nevertheless it's hard to find a seat in the stalls and the pit is rammed.

A couple of minutes before the show started Lenny Kravitz with his guitar player and two security guards crossed the whole pit to go to the mixing desk without anyone recognising him. Funny.

Tonight's show was video recorded and broacasted live on SFR website.

Beth lost somewhere in the stalls (left) & pit (center)

They started with a very slow songs and for the second everybody was standing up & dancing like crazy mother fuckers.
Gossip has always been the link between rock & dance, a bit more dance lately...
I'll try to get the setlist as soon as possible...

Beth is communicating a lot with the audience, mostly in French unfortunately she's acting a bit as if she was still in a club; when you're playing that kind of big arena , you have to do as if you were talking to the guy at the very back of the venue not the one in the first row.
She also thanked many people from the stage which was a bit annoying in the end even though I can understand she needed to thank all the people who have been with them from the beginning from little clubs to this big arena which is probably the biggest headlining show they've ever done.

Merchandising

She did the same routine she did when she was playing clubs, she went into the stalls (see pics) and went back to the stage crossing the entire pit from one side to the other to rousing applause.
They played a bit of Black Sabbath's " War Pigs" at the beginning of one of their songs...

Beth stayed alone on the stage at the very end to perform Whitney Houston's " I will always love you".
Nice show.

Aftershow party with some crazy looking guys ( far right)

There was an aftershow party for 150 with some drinks and canapés, the whole band turned up to chat with people in a very lively atmosphere as a dj was playing some dance music.

Funeral Party @ L'Album de la Semaine, Canal+, Paris Dec 07 2010

setlist

American band from Los Angeles Funeral Party is playing famous Canal+ tv show L'Album de la Semaine in front of a selected audience of 150 people.
They may be from the east coast but they sound more like a NYC indie rock band.
They also have a couple of dance tunes on a disco beat, the singer is screaming like a heavy metal singer without having the look which is quite funny.
Good little band, Enjoyable.

The Female Elvis as she was once called is in Paris to promote her brand new album that will be out in January of 2011 , an album produced by Jack White.
This young lady is a legend and has toured with Elvis Presley in the late 50's.
She performed a set of 9 songs ( 7 + 2 already played) in front of a small audience for this "private" gig mostly of covers by Elvis, Eddie Cochran, Johnny Kidd & the Pirates... and her hit single " Let's have a party".
Lots of talking between songs to introduce the songs, she's looking very good even though she has problem walking, she's 75.
The voice is a bit frail but she can deliver.
Like many rock artist from the fifties, she's playing with a local band, I've been told that the rehearsals were really difficult, it was the first time ever that this french band was playing with her, but on the night songs were perfectly executed.
Very nice short set

It will be broadcasted in mid-January on Canal+

Great video from "Whom you belong":

Enjoy ! Thanks to Laurent.

Fistful of Mercy
@ Cigale Paris Dec 5 2010
Feat. Dhani Harrison + Joseph Arthur + Ben Harper+ Jessy Greene

Finally in Paris , this supergroup feat. Beatles' George Harrison's son Dhani, Folk singer Joseph Arthur & Superstar in France Ben Harper.
On paper it is fantastic unfortunatelly they did an album (recorded in three days) that's far from being good ... in fact it's pretty average.
Will it be better live ? We shall see.

The Cigale is packed and sold-out for ages, lots of girls in the audience, Ben Harper is very popular over here.
Too bad Jim Keltner who's playing on the album is not touring with them, but we have a beautiful girl, Jessy Greene on violin.
Dahni is on the left taking care of the guitar & piano, Joseph Arthur dead center on guitar and percussions & Ben on the right on guitar and a bit of bass at the end of the show. They are all singing lead. Jessy's in the back (why ?).

Nice lightshow... NOT !

Lively atmosphere on stage, they seem to get on really well and lively atmosphere in the pit as all songs are welcomed with cheers. Many people around me know all the lyrics.

The Good, The Bad, The Ugly (not in that order)

Songs are sounding, for some of them, pretty good but they have too many average songs to make this show a really good one. They did a couple of covers , one from Bob Dylan and one from The Velvet Underground, if I get it right, plus a song from Ben that was welcomed with open arms.( see setlist for details ).It looks like most of the audience came to see him.
They also did a couple of instrumentals.

With just one record they've done a long set as they've almost played for 2 hours (1H50)
Nice ending as the four of them came down the front to sing it without microphone.

Joined by the beauty...

Overall good show but it could have been so much better with... better songs.

Here are a few videos from YouTube: "Fistful of Mercy", "In the sun", "Please me like you want it", Other videos from the show HERE

Just hope that Ben Harper will be back with Relentless 7 as soon as possible as they did a GREAT album last year and a GREAT Tour (see Review with Pics , Video & setlist of their shows @ Arras Main Square with Pearl Jam on July 3rd 2010, @ Cigale on April 20 2009 , private show @ Studio SFR on April 25 2009 & Fnac store Signing session on April 27 2009).
