Chris Isaak @ L'Album de la Semaine, Paris Jan 20 2012

Chris Isaak @ L'Album de la Semaine, Paris Jan 20 2012

setlist

Chris Isaak tonight for a tv recording playing his brand new album of Sun records cover.
Smartly dressed as usual playing with his band of 26 years.
The gig started nicely and smoothly with his hit song "Blue Hotel" before playing songs from the new album " Beyond the Sun" including covers from Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison & Jerry Lee Lewis who was introduced a s the King of Rock 'n Roll, I don't think he would approve that.
Chris' voice is still the same: perfect
I was wondering what's the point of playing such famous songs, everybody's covering the same ones, Sun Records has such a catalogue of great less known songs.
Even though his versions are very similar to the originals, the versions he's playing are so good that in fact you don't care and just enjoy.
He played a few extra tracks that were not on the setlist ending with Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire".
Probably the best Album de la Semaine we attended in a long time.

There's a deluxe version of "Beyond the Sun" with a second cd with 11 extra songs

Erevan Tusk + The Teeers @ Colette, Paris Jan 19 2012

Erevan Tusk + The Teeers @ Colette, Paris Jan 19 2012
Colette Music Box # 11

Once a month, trendy Colette store is organizing a concert @ The water bar in the basement of its Rue St Honoré store.
It's free and the food & drinks are sponsored so there 's always quality food, this time it's homemade Marshmallows by Pain de Sucre for everyone. (& some macarons & champagne on your way in).

Erevan Tusk

First band on the tiny stage is Erevan Tusk , quality 60's influenced pop-rock, very ambiant à la Mercury Rev, in English for this french band, great songs.

The Teeers / Kids wanna ROOOOCCKKK!!!

Then suddenly the basement is getting packed by many kids, don't know where they're coming from, the oldest is probably 15 and the youngest 5-6 years old.
What the Fuck ???
The headlining act The Teeers is a power trio, hard to believe but those kids are really rocking and the musicianship is high considering that each one of them is barely 14 years old. Yes... 14 years old.
Now we understand why there's so many kids down here.
They have their own songs, good ones heavily influenced by the English pop-rock & Arctic Monkeys and they're singing... in English.

They are the Real baby-rockers and they fucking rock ! and they already have lots of groupies !

The Ting Tings @ L'Album de la Semaine, Paris jan 17 2012

The Ting Tings @ L'Album de la Semaine, Paris Jan 17 2012

setlist

The Ting Tings are back in Paris, a month after playing a private show for Deezer @ Caroussel du Louvre, to promote their new album "Sounds from nowheresville" to be out at the end of February.
In front of a selected audience of less than 150 people The Ting Tings are playing songs from the new album a mix of bluesy rock electro hip-hop.
Still playing as a duet with lots of pre-recorded tapes, the girl is doing the show singing-jumping & dancing .
Lively short set, not too sure about their completely electro song "Hands" that should sound perfect in a disco but not on a stage, well not for us a s we hate that electro shit.
The band ended their short set with 2 hits from the first album.
Very good set.

Check our review of their private show @ Caroussel du louvre on Dec 08 2011

The Ting Tings are playing a sold-out show tonight (Jan 18) at the Fleche d'Or

Chickenfoot @ Olympia, Paris Jan 16 2012

CHICKENFOOT @ Olympia, Paris Jan 16 2012
Feat: Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony, Joe Satriani & Kenny Aronoff

First show for year 2012 and we couldn't start better this new year than with a real Rock'n Roll band like Chickenfoot feat. 2 former Van Halen members plus guitar virtuoso Joe Satriani and monster drummer Kenny Aronoff who's seating in for departed Chad Smith who's back and touring with The Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Funnily our last show for 2011 was the RHCP @ Cigale on Dec 19 for an invit' only theatre show.

It's not sold-out tonight , balcony is full but there are lots of space downstairs in the pit, from what I've been told there were still 500 tickets left for the gig at the box office on the night.

First : it's the very first time That we're seeing them Live and Second, shame on us, we haven't heard properly any of their records yet.
There's a real chemistry between these guys and most of all they're enjoying what they are doing, you can see it on their faces. They all have a big smile.
Like proper American rock stars they are all, apart from Michael, wearing sunglasses, and like proper "rebels" are all dressed in black.

Hard to judge a gig when you're hearing the songs for the very first time.
Even though they do have some really good songs, it's rocking, there are no standout classic tracks.
No need to tell you that the musicianship is high.

There are a couple of supergroups out there like Chickenfoot : Them Crooked Vultures & Black Country Communion, they all have fantastic musicians but they are all missing a hit song with a great hook.
On stage they are all killing machines and Chickenfoot is no exception.

Great 1h50 in gig.

SETLIST :
Lighten Up
Alright Alright
Big Foot
Sexy Little Thing (another recording)
Soap on a Rope
Up Next (Another recording from the balcony)
My Kinda Girl
Down the Drain
Three and a Half Letters
Something Going Wrong
Turning Left
Future in the Past
Encore
Different Devil
Oh Yeah ! (+ foxy lady)
Foxy Lady
Joe hendrix
see ya paris !!!
