Skunk Anansie @ Nouveau Casino, Paris Sept 8 2010

Skunk Anansie @ Nouveau Casino, Paris
OUI FM private show Sept 8 2010

C'est la rentrée for french rock radio OUIFM with their first concert for the season and we're lucky to get Skunk Anansie @ the tiny Nouveau Casino ( 500 capacity) in the Menilmontant district.
Funnily Skunk Anansie have a brand new record out " Wonderlustre" on Sept 13, what a coincidence, Isn't it !
Skunk Anansie already played in Paris not so long ago ( On August 27 ) @ the Rock en Seine festival ( Click for video & pics from this show).

You probably guess it was a OUI FM radio show ;-)

Here @ ROCKERPARIS we like what they are doing so we're glad to see them again, this time not in front of 30 000 people but in an intimate setting in front of a selected audience of less than 500 guests & competition winners.
One of the best pop-heavy rock band.
Lots of photographers tonight for this showcase, the whole first row and some others are in the back.
As it's a promotional gig for the new album we have lots of new songs performed for the first time live ( so she says) ans a few oldies.
Lots of bass for us as we're standing in front of Cass (the bass player), this guy's a killer ( he also played with Gary Moore a few years ago).
Skin as usual is doing the show, her voice is perfect. Incredible she hasn't changed for these last 15 years. Can't tell the difference between now and how she was looking back then.
The whole gig was video recorded by the band specially one song to illustrate the new single (" Over the love") so Skin had to go backstage for a couple of minutes for make up.
Conditions were perfect down the front as the club wasn't packed and there were lots of girls around me.
Great 70 min show.
setlist & did I tell you it was a OUi Fm show ?

Cool !

Lemmy movie @ L' étrange festival in Forum des Images, Paris sept 8 2010 5:00 PM

Lemmy documentary-Movie @ L' Etrange Festival
Forum des Images, Paris Sept 8 2010 5:00PM

This afternoon ROCKERPARIS was kindly invited to attend the premiere of the Movie-Documentary about the legendary Lemmy ( click for info & trailer) from MOTORHEAD.
In fact we don't really know if it was a premiere as the movie won't be out in cinemas in France.
It is part of the Etrange Festival which is showing lots of classic & independant fucked up (rock, gore,Horror , thriller, fantastic B or Z movies, Korean... ) movies from all over the world until Sept 12.
It is 2 hour long, really good even though the beginning frightened me a bit as it's only famous musicians ( Alice Cooper, Slash , Dave Grohl, Metallica and suprisingly Jarvis Cocker from Pulp among many others ) telling how great is Lemmy.
A tiny bit of history (with The Rocking Vickers, Hawkwind) interviews, his life in L.A. and some live footages including one with Metallica or his guest apperances with other artists.
It's not too academic, it is more about Lemmy the man than a historical doc about Lemmy from his first band to Motorhead.
It is very interesting, a must see.

Black Mountain @ L' Album de la Semaine, Paris Sept 7 2010

Black Mountain @ L' Album de la Semaine, Canal+
Paris Sept 7 2010

setlist & postcards for the new album "wilderness heart"

Canadian rock band Black Mountain is playing famous Canal+ tv show L' Album de la Semaine to promote their brand new album Wilderness Heart ( to be out on Sept 13).
We were looking forward to see them LIVE as we liked what we have heard.
They are like a "light" stoner rock band with a bit of psyche early-Pink Floyd influences.
Most of the songs are quite rock ( with some nice guitars and heavy bass à la Black Sabbath) always with some keyboards ( with the ol' sound: moog ) a couple of others are really laid back and cool, That's when the keyboards rule over the guitar.
Nice looking girl on the vocals but she's lacking charisma, she should make an effort on stage as she seems to be waiting for the bus in the rain after breaking up with her boyfriend. ;-)
That's the kind of music I like even though i would put more guitars.( There's never enough guitar for me anyway)
They will be playing The Maroquinerie on Oct 4th, don't miss them.

Jane's Addiction has parted ways with Duff McKagan

Duff McKagan is no longer in Jane's Addiction , they've parted ways.
Perry posted this on his twitter : "Jane's wishes Duff much luck with his band Loaded. What a fun time we all had working together. Look out for his record and tour this fall."

"Hey we wanted to thank Duff for helping us write songs for our new record," the band said via email. "We love the songs we worked on with him -- and the gigs were a blast -- but musically we were all headed in different directions. From here Duff is off to work on his own stuff so we wish him all the best."

Jim Jones Revue @ L' Album de la Semaine
Canal+ Paris Sept 6 2010

The Jim Jones Revue have a new album out today (" Burning your house down") and they're playing Canal+ tv show L' Album de la Semaine to promote it.
We already saw them here in January 2009 at this very same place , just read what we were saying about them at the time : "They are greasy & sleazy and really rocking , i mean reaalllly rocking.
Dressed up like 50's rockers, they're playing a heavy rock very 50's orientated
The singer is also playing the lead guitar and is screaming like a maniac. They have a piano that keeps their heavy rock swinging ( The Killer would be proud )."
Nothing to add, another great show by these english rockers, the singer's a great showman.
Don't miss them if they're playing in your town, these motherfuckers are ROCKING !!!!

John Cale playing " Paris 1919" @ Salle pleyel, Paris Sept 5 2010

John Cale "When Past and Future collide"
@ Salle Pleyel playing "Paris 1919" Paris Sept 5 2010
John Cale here on guitar & setlist

It was hard to decide to be locked in a concert hall tonight as 1) the weather was so sunny today 2) it was probably the last day with sunshine before a week of clouds & rain.
Could we miss John Cale playing his masterpieace " Paris 1919" ?
No.
Well in fact nearly as a friend of mine arrived sooo late ( I won't mention his name, I'm NOT that kind of man but ...his name starts with an -O- and ends with -Liver Peel- ) that we missed most of the first set.
Yes, when it is written 8:00 PM on the ticket , the show starts at 8:00 PM sharp @ Salle Pleyel.
Too bad it was during the first set that John Cale is playing "Paris 1919" so i won't tell you that much about it but I'm sure it was good.
The Sound was neat with the orchestra ( Orchestre national d’Ile-de-France dirigé par Christophe Mangou )backing the band ( Guitar bass, drums ) & John on keys.

Then it's time for an intermission and John is playing rockier songs ( he's on guitar for most of the second set). He still has a beautiful and power voice, he doesn't communicate that much apart from the usual "Thank you".
Heavy ending with a very long version of "Pablo Picasso".
Cool sets even though I'm not too familiar with his repertoire.

PollyAnna & Boo Hoo + Friends @ Oliver Peel Session, Paris Sept 4 2010

Pollyanna + Boo Hoo & friends @ Oliver Peel Session
Paris Sept 4 2010

First Oliver Peel session for the new season , even though everybody's back from holiday , Oliver & Cécile are having a laid back session. The weather's still sunny and hot but thankfully it's not overcrowded.
First is French baby girl Pollyanna for some ... folk music in front of a dedicated audience.
Acoustic , a couple of songs on the banjo and in the end a little help from her fiends on guitar and violin.
Here on video:

Sorry for the lousy recording.
Part of the audience, Pollyanna seems happy with her performance & part of the food ( bottles out of Pic )

Then we have German duet Boo Hoo for some more folk music. Mostly the man alone on vocals & guitar with some help on vocals by his German lady and a bit of keyboards for the finale.
Entertaining once again: cool music and some funny lyrics too.
Sorry no video

some of the beauties of tonight's session from Germany, Denmark, UK... and France

As we couldn't get enough, we had an aftershow party with the chosen few late at night with a couple more songs from Pollyanna ( covering French folk band Malicorne) and some more songs by her friends.
Nice party !
