Gossip +Ssion @ Bataclan Nov 15th 2009

Gossip & Ssion @ Bataclan Paris
1st show Nov 15th 2009

3 SOLD-OUT shows @ Bataclan ( 1400 Capacity ) for Gossip.
Tonight is the first gig.
It's a VERY gay friendly audience, so many girls unfortunately most of 'em are lesbians.

Then Gossip , i've seen them MANY times these last few years including two shows in September ( Le Mouv' & Oui FM private gigs ; click for review Pics & Video ).
They haven't change these last 2 months.

Same show with probably the same setlist: ( From Oliver Peel )
01: Dimestore Diamond
02: Pop Goes The World
03: 2012
04: Waves
05: Yr Mangled Heart
06: Men In Love
07: Fire /Sign
08: Love Long Distance
09: 8th Wonder
10: Four Letter Word
11: Yesterday's News
12: Heavy Cross

13: What's Love Got To Do With It (Tina Turner Cover)
14: Standing In The Way Of Control
15: We Are the Champions (Queen Cover)

We're all sweating like pigs it's so hot in here almost like in summer time ( The Bataclan is famous for having no AC at all ). She dropped her dressed mid-show. ( See video below )

Beth is talking a lot to the audience , giving away lots of bottles of water , the audience in the pit is really into it singing and dancing. Nice atmosphere.
Lots of press too as there are several cameras recording the whole show from the mixing desk.

Beth went to sing into the pit, going to the back of the venue to the bar and return.
Short gig ( 70 min ? ) but it was as hot as hell.

Francis Ford Coppola Master Class @ Fnac Montparnasse Paris nov 13th 2009

Master Class with Francis Ford Coppola
@ Fnac Montparnasse Paris Nov 13th 2009

AWESOME !!!
Francis Ford Coppola
is in Paris to promote his new movie TETRO.
A couple of days ago he did a master Class @ Forum des Images, yesterday he presented Tetro @ Max Linder movie theatre ( He was there 5 min ) & tonight he's doing a Master Class @ Fnac Store.
We could secure a few tickets , have nice seats down the front.
8:20 Pm the Master is entering the Fnac store for a Question & Answer.
First he took questions from a girl from France Inter radio then from people in the audience.
He talked about everything : his new movie & and how to cut production costs ( he did it in Argentina because it's cheaper , he's the producer ) , Apocalypse Now ( a great war movie to make lots of money to do art films with the money afterwards ) , How he started ( HERE on video ) and many other things I don't remember right now.
SOOOOOooo interesting , the guy is so cool and relax.
We spent more than an hour with him and it was really fantastic.
The whole video will be online on the Fnac store website shortly, I advice you to have a look there for the whole thing ( I'm Waayy to lazy to type it down now ).
At the end he came to shake a few hands to people ( including me , Yo ).
This will be hard to forget.

Morrissey + Doll & the Kicks Zénith Paris Nov 12th 2009

Morrissey + Doll & the kicks
@ Paris Zénith nov 12th 2009

Well,well, well !!!
For once Morrissey is not playing on the same day as the Babyshambles. Good Point.
It's a very small Zénith tonight ( 2500 capacity ) and it's far from being full up , the pit is probably one of the the smallest I have ever seen @ Zénith.
Last time I was here it was full of very sexy teenage girls ( for the Artic Monkeys) tonight it's full of gays in their 30's.

English support band Doll & The Kicks did a nice job even if they sounded a bit too much like No Doubt.

During the intervall we had some nice video-clips on the huge screen including some live footages from The New York Dolls and a very funny Lou Reed interview ( circa 74 ? ).

Then it's time for the diva Queen Morrissey to take the stage, remember what happened a few days ago in Liverpool ? where he stopped the show after only two songs because he received a plastic bottle on his head. Two minders are watching over him as soon as he gets near the audience.

He opened the set with " This Charming Man" from the new record, Matt Walker ( ex- Smashing Pumpkins, Garbage ) still on drums.
The audience is dead down the front , really strange atmosphere.
Morrissey can't stop playing with the wire of his mike, it's annoying in the end.
Songs are played one after another and even though he communicates with the audience there's something missing, there's no passion.
" Irish blood English heart" woke everybody up. It was time
He threw his last shirt for the evening ( a purple one , after the black & the blue ) into the audience , it almost landed on my head , the girl next to me gave me a piece of it( smelling perfume ).

I've seen him a few times and this one was just average maybe it was the dead audience.

Kings of Convenience + guest Feist @ Bataclan Paris Nov 11th 2009

Updated with complete setlist

Kings Of Convenience + Feist as a guest
@ Bataclan Paris Nov 11th 2009

First time for me as I never saw Kings of Convenience LIVE.
I only have one cd and the last time they've played in Paris was 8-9 years ago.
Sold-out show.
So lots of expectations from the dedicated fans who were cheering to EVERY song they were playing.

As there was no support band and the Bataclan wanted to charge them a 1000 euros for rotten business reasons ( With no support band the Bataclan will sell less drinks at the bar ) , The band decided that they will be their own support band.
So they came on pretty early ( 8:15 Pm ) to play a short first set ( 30 min )
After a 20 min break they came back to play the proper set.
What about the music ?
KoC are like a young & Norwegian Simon & Garfunkel except that they charge you 10% of what S&G will ask you to see them live, they're very funny ( song about Justin timberlake ) and they don't hate each other.
The sound and lightning was perfect , no need for earplugs at all ( first time in Years ).

SETLIST: ( thanks to Stéphane D )

GREAT gig !!!
There was an aftershow party @ Scopitone club ( announced on stage ) we went there but were being told that they will only Mix so we didn't stay, just hoping that they didn't play.

Plastiscines @ Fnac Champs Elysées Paris Nov 10th 2009

Plastiscines @ Fnac Champs Elysées 6:00 PM
Paris Nov 10th 2009
The girls from France Plastiscines are doing a showcase on the Champs Elysées @ Fnac store.
Strange audience, not the kind that used to come at the Gibus club a couple of years ago, many fat 30 something & just a few teenagers. Where are they ?
Anyway the girls are rocking it's not an acoustic set but a "full" show with electric guitars and all.
You can see ( & hear) that they have practice a lot including the stage moves.
They have some nice poppy songs & a couple of lame ones too.
The single " Barcelona" ended the set , it's also from far their best song. ( Here on video )

They signed some records ( out today ) and had a chat with fans.
relaxing Aftershow.

Kid harpoon & Etikal Lab @ L' International Paris Nov 8th 2009

Kid Harpoon & Etikal Lab
@ L' International Paris Nov 8th 2009

Where to go tonight ? Les Inrocks Fest or L' International , we chose the latter , who wants to see Sliimy @ Les Inrocks ? NOT me.

First time in years that I'm not going AT ALL at the Inrocks Fest.
No interesting bands this year or I've already seen them recently ( Ebony Bones last week ).

Kid Harpoon is on his own with his acoustic guitar for a powerful set , 20 min no more. His voice was fucked up so he cut the performance short ending it with a Leonard Cohen cover.
Very different from the music that is played on his Myspace.
Then it's time for trip-hop french band Etikal Lab , nice set but the music is not really my cup of tea. They do have a sexy singer though. ( not obvious on the pic but she is ).

Steven Tyler NOT QUITTING Aerosmith

UPDATED NOV 12th:
Perry has told Billboard that Tyler wanted a two-year break from the band – but he wants to keep going.
"Aerosmith wants to work," Perry said. "We're gonna work and we're gonna do something – I'm not exactly sure what yet, but the band's too good to let it sit around. We're not going to wait for Steven."
The guitarist added that Tyler's appearance at his solo gig was a complete surprise. "He was really the last person I expected," he revealed.

STEVEN TYLER NOT QUITTING AEROSMITH
He performed yesterday with the Joe Perry Project and announced that he wasn't leaving Aero

Steven & Joe Perry in happier times ( Paris Bercy June 2007 )

EXCLUSIVE:
STEVEN TYLER HAS LEFT AEROSMITH

A few days days ago Aerosmith were considering replacing Steven Tyler with a new vocalist, according to guitarist Brad Whitford. In a new interview with Classic Rock magazine, Whitford has revealed that the band are to hold meetings – probably without Tyler – in the next fortnight to discuss their future. One direction being considered is to replace Tyler with a new singer, Whitford confirmed. He added that for Aerosmith 's recent gigs, Tyler had been given a separate dressing room to the rest of the band. ( Source NME )

More from the Aerosmith camp:

Steven Tyler has quit Aerosmith, according to the band's guitarist Joe Perry.
Guitarist Perry has revealed his pal has left the rock group after its performance as part of the Formula One racing season's final weekend in Abu Dhabi last weekend.

He tells the Las Vegas Sun, "Steven quit as far as I can tell. I don't know any more than you do about it. I got off the plane two nights ago. I saw online that Steven said that he was going to leave the band. I don't know for how long, indefinitely or whatever. Other than that, I don't know."
But Perry is determined to continue with Aerosmith, even if Tyler refuses to return.
