Bat for Lashes + David Walters @ Bataclan Paris May 27th 2009

Bat for Lashes + David Walters & Caroline Weeks
@ Bataclan Paris May 27th 2009

Marquee & David Walters

The show started too early tonight so i couldn't see Caroline Weeks playing , i was just on time for David Walters.
The guy has skills , he's on his own playing guitar, percussion & lots of samples that he's actionning with his feet to nice effects, but I'm not really fan of his Electro-African-reggae style but he has talent.
The sold-out audience was reticent at the beginning but he won them over in the end.

Natasha Khan & Bat for Lashes have released a new cd with much more electronic than the first one and I really don't like all this electronic shit.
Caroline Weeks doesn't play with BfL anymore .
Now there's a drummer, a female guitar-bass piano player ( Charlotte ), a guy on the computer & Keyboard and Natasha on vocals & Keyboards ( guitar on one song ).
She still has her charming voice but the music is less interesting than it used to be, too much electro for my taste.
She's leaving the stage after just 50 min, Come on baby !
75 min in all that's a bit short.
One more thing that I don't understand is why all those bands are playing in an almost complete dark.
You're ON a stage , Why don't you switch on the lights for fuck's sake.

Great lake Swimmers + Amélie @ L' international Paris May 26th 2009

Great Lake Swimmers + Amélie @ L' international
Paris May 26th 2009

Amélie

After seeing Kasabian @ Canal+ we headed to the , now very trendy , L' International in Ménilmontant.
First time I was getting there. Nice place there is a bar and downstairs is the stage where bands are playing.
First is a funny blonde girl Amélie with a guitarist and drummer , she has a high voice and is acting funny. Nice set.
Then we have Great Lake Swimmers , I have never heard of that Canadian band before and it was a really interesting discovery.
There is a girl on keyboard and backing vocals , a drummer , a guitar and banjo player , a upright bass player and the singer-songwriter .
Typical canadian folkies with the shirt and beard ( except fot the girl of course ).
They made me think of a folk version of Grandaddy with nice harmony vocals and cool songs.

Kasabian @ L' Album de le semaine Canal+ May 26th 2009

Kasabian @ L' Album de la Semaine for Canal+
Paris May 26th 2009

After seeing the Plastic Heroes at the Gibert Joseph store in St Michel we headed north to the shitty Plaine St Denis to see Kasabian playing new songs in front of a selected audience of less then 200 for the Canal+ tv show "L' Album de la semaine".
First time i saw Kasabian I was very impressed it was at the Rock en Seine festival and I didn't know anything about them at all.
Today they're promoting their brand new cd ( they were yesterday at the Trabendo club ) so they're playing mostly new songs.
Usually bands playing live are much more better than on cd but I tonight I thought that Kasabian are much more powerful on cd than live.
There's something missing, maybe more guitars or more backing Vocals.
Even " Shoot the runner" was weak.
So it was good show but it could have been better.
I Guess it's a band you have to see in a festival when 30 000 people are singing along to their songs.

Plastic Heroes @ Gibert Joseph store Paris May 26th 2009

Plastic Heroes @ Gibert Joseph store
St Michel in Paris May 26th 2009

First of 3 shows for me today with London band Plastic Heroes at 5:30 PM.
They've already played a couple of times in Paris already and they're here to promote their new cd.
Nice 30 min+ acoustic show with this rock'n roll band , it's hard to judge a band playing acoustic when they are usually rocking with electric guitars.
The show went really well , I'm sure afetr hearing the songs that they're digging the Stones and 60's rock band.
Hope to see them soon rocking and rolling at full steam..

Iggy Pop @ FNAC St Lazare Paris May 25th 2009

Iggy Pop @ Fnac St Lazare Paris
May 25th 2009
Signing session for the Iguana @ the Fnac store to promote his new cd "Preliminaires" but not only as Gilles verlant was here, so we had a Question & Answer first, people could ask question to Iggy at the end..
Nothing really new, there will be a Stooges album with James Williamson , who's now retired from sony corporation, on guitar replacing the late Ron Ashton.
There will be no future collaboration with Bowie ...and so on.

Then it was time to sign some CDs .
Iggy as always is chatty and smiling and funny ... a perfect gentleman well ...no so perfect as he's saying FUCK at every sentence.
The whole thing lasted for a couple of hours.

Iggy Pop in Paris this Week

Iggy Pop will be in Paris this week to promote his new cd " Préliminaires":

Starting from today @ Fnac St Lazare for an instore signing session @ 6:oo pm

The main event will be his private gig for France Inter on May 28th broadcasted live from the Studio 105 @ 9: 00 PM sharp.

This is a real treat as Iggy has decided NOT to tour for this record.

See our previous review of Iggy Pop's 2 days of recording of La Musicale ( click here for the part 1 ) for Canal+ ( click here for the part 2 ) in March.

Erica Buettner @ Oliver Peel Session # 6 Paris May 24th 2009

Erica Buettner @ Oliver Peel Session # 6
Somewhere in Paris

Erica & the family cat relaxing to her music

Oliver Peel ( & Cécile ) are welcoming us once again in their lovely appartment facing the Eiffel Tower to attend American singer -songwriter Erica Buettner 's private show.

Just read what the Blogotheque is saying about her HERE ( sorry in french ).
Once again Oliver is bringing the best of the new Folk scene ( I Hope she won't mind if I call her music: Folk )
Charming young lady , beautiful voice , playing both guitar and banjo ( though not at the same time ;-).
Erica gaves us a emotional concert with her songs and a couple of covers, one by Elliott Smith and a surprising song by french artist Marie Laforet sung in French ; but the best is to see and hear by yourself by watching the video below : Isn't she nice ?
Things were really relax after the show with a couple of glasses of French Rosé. Won't mention any names.
We ended the evening with some al dente spicy spaghetti.
A sunday that felt like going to the countryside for the weekend.
When 's the next session ?

A video HERE with Erica on Banjo

Roger Hodgson @ Olympia Paris May 23rd 2009

Roger Hodgson @ Olympia
Paris May 23rd 2009

All Pictures © Patrice Guino

After playing a sold-out show at the very same Olympia on March 24th , Roger Hodgson ( formerly of Supertramp ) is back for another sold-out show.
This guy wrote so many hits with Supertramp it's unbelievable.
Lots of member for the French fan club in the audience.
Difficult not to spot them they're wearing the same ugly t-shirt. ;-)
Well , he played all the hits ( setlist tomorrow ) plus a couple of songs from his last cd " Open the door" and a new song.
This gig was in two parts the first one of 45 min and a second part of 70 min +.
Lots of talking between songs in English and in French.
Roger still has the very same voice as 35 years ago , a high and clear crystal voice that is absolutely perfect.
The only reproch that I would make is that considering the price of the tickets between 60 & 90 euros, he could come with a full band instead of just one guy on brass, woodwind & keyboard.

SETLIST :
Part 1
Take the long way home
Give a little bit
Lovers in the wind
Hide in your shell
Teach me to love again
Easy does it
Sister moonshine
Rosie had everything planned
A soapbox opera
Along came mary
The logical song

Part 2
the meaning
breakfast in america
the more i look
child of vision
lord is it mine
if everyone was listening
don't leave me now
dreamer
fool's overture
-encore 1 :
school
two of us
it's raining again
-encore 2 :
give a little bit (reprise)
Roger doesn't really need 7-8 musicians to perfectly play his material that is so good even though some songs would have been enhanced with a couple more players.

A very good gig , see you on July 7th for his third show at the Olympia.

U2 Here's the stage for the U2 360° Tour 2009

Here it is :

Lenny Kravitz & Chris Cornell @ Paris Bercy May 20th 2009

Lenny Kravitz & Chris Cornell
Paris Bercy May 20th 2009
SOLD-OUT Bercy for Mr Lenny Kravitz, they even sold tickets behind the stage, Bastards.
Not a surprise it's a Gérard Drouot Production ,
Chris Cornell , formely of Soundgarden & Audioslave , is opening tonight in a half empty Bercy.
Do you remember his horrible show @ La Cigale in February ? : He played his whole new shitty cd produced by Timbaland. ( see review Pics and video from his show @ La Cigale HERE )
Well things haven't really changed , lots of new songs: soooo boring ! Thank God , we had " Black hole sun " ( out of key on vocals ) , a very good " Spoonman" ( soundgarden ) & " Cochise" ( Audioslave ).
Poor guy , he's ruining his solo career.

[ According to Vicky Cornell , Chris' wife , Prince was in Bercy watching the show ]

Lenny Kravitz is back in Paris after playing La Cigale in March 2008 , the show was really kicking ass.
This time he's not here to promote the new cd but to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his first ( and best ) album "Let love rule" .
Not the best start as he's playing mid-tempo songs at the beginning. Then things started to get hot as we had lots of songs from " Let love rule" ( setlist shortly ).
Craig Ross is on fire and to give an extra funky & soul atmosphere there are saxo & trumpet players ( 4 in all ). The bass player has a very groovy sound.

SETLIST : ( corrected )
Freedom train
Bring it on
It ain't over til it's over
Where Are We Runnin’?
I belong to you
Flower child
Believe
Dancin' till dawn
I'll be waiting
Mr Cab Driver
Always on the Run
American Woman
Fly away

Stillness Of Heart
Let love rule

Are you gonna go my way

A few songs are streched to more than 10 min ( including the title song " Let love rule " here on video and incomplete, sorry ), Lenny is playing the rock star... maybe too much for me, but the " black jew" as he describes himself knows how to entertain his mainly female audience.
Incredible , ladies are everywhere and all of 'em Hot babes.
Quite a change from the Metallica audience.
He went a couple of times in the pit to sing and check hands with the first row and even take pictures of his fans.
The concert ended with lots of pyro on a rocking version of " Are you gonna go my way".
Back to the basics on this tour for a very nice gig.
It remember me the first time I saw him in Bercy with Keziah Jones opening... a long time ago.

"Spoon-Man with Led Zep's Good times Bad times" :

"Let love rule" BABY !!!

Adam Ficek @ 5e Disque Rue Mouffetard Paris May 20th 2009

Adam Ficek aka Roses Kings Castles
5e Disque Rue Mouffetard Paris
May 20th 2009 6:00 PM

Adam is in Paris to promote his cd so he had a couple of solo acoustic performances organised, one was yesterday @ Motel Bar ( see review , Pics & Video HERE ) which was packed.
Today he's playing in a very tiny record store in one of the most 'pittoresque' street of Paris La Rue Mouffetard.
Very odd choice ( to be polite ) to do a gig in such a small store ( He should have a word with the "Promoter" ) nevertheless Adam took it nicely and greeted fans who came ( mostly the same as yesterday ) with very relax and laid back songs from his back catalogue, including a couple of favorites , with audience participation and some brand new songs to feature on his next EP.
As usual with Adam everything went smoothly.
Strange to see him play in such a small place while the tv screen was playing in the back the Woodstock movie in which John Sebastian & Joe Mc Donald are playing their acoustic set in front of half a million people.
Here's a video from Mathilde ( Not rockerparis ):

Adam Ficek aka Roses Kings Castles @ Motel bar Paris May 19th 2009

Adam Ficek @ Motel bar Paris May 19th 2009
Escaping from the drums of Babyshambles , Adam Ficek is taking his acoustic guitar and playing in clubs and bars. This time he's @ Motel not too far from Bastille.
Lots of cool and laid back songs in the packed bar , lots of familiar faces here tonight.
We had the primeur of a couple of new songs.

See Ya tomorrow in the record store of Rue Mouffetard M° Place Monge @ 6 :00 PM for another acoustic show.
he will be mixing @ Social Club around midnight

Gossip @ L' Album de la Semaine Canal+ Paris May 19th 2009

setlist

Gossip are doing famous Canal+ tv show " L' Album de la Semaine" , they are here to promote their new album .
They've played yesterday a long sold-out gig @ Boule Noire.
In front of a selected audience of less than 200 people , Beth Ditto are friends are only playing songs from their new cd ( see setlist ).
They used to be more rock , it seems that new songs are much more orientated with a 80's sound with weird keyboard and all... not for the best.
Beth still has a voice but the music is less interesting, too bad .
The gig was quite short , around 30 min and Beth came to sing the last one in the stalls with the audience.
Hey guys come back to some real rock'n roll.
( sorry no pictures it's forbidden )

Tomorrow May 20th Adam Ficek is playing another gig in a record store at 6:00 Pm @ -5e disque- Rue Mouffetard M° Place Monge in the Latin quarter. 5e district

Then I 'll go to Bercy for the Chris Cornell / Lenny Kravitz concert.

see ya there

PJ Harvey & John Parish @ Bataclan 2 May 18th 2009

UPDATED MAY 25th
with a link to listen to the WHOLE SHOW ( click ) on Deezer

PJ Harvey & John Parish
@ Bataclan
2nd show Paris May 18th 2009

The Marquee
Hey Boys , It's hard to make a living in Paris these days !

Once again American artist Tom Brusseau opened the show on his own , oh Boy he was alone! Like yesterday many people in the back were talking as he was playing his sweet folk country music.
He thanked the audience a couple of times for listening to him.
The guy has a good sens of humour.
He has the voice of an angel à la Jeff buckley , frenchies only showed him support when he ended one of his songs a cappela.
Fine job in difficult conditions.

Well , What can I say about this gig ?
They played songs from their 2 records ( setlist below ) , she was wearing the same black dress as yesterday , the band wore the same black suits like a country band would do.
I noticed that John changed his horrible brown colour shoes from yesterday to some black ones.

Polly was in fine form , her voice was crystal clear , dancing barefoot ( remember someone ? ).
John was discreet playing guitar , banjo , ukulele ... only singing lead on one song at the end.

The music went from very quiet songs to nice indie rock spat out lyrics.
They could have changed a couple of things as we had the same songs as yesterday in the same order for a too short 90 min show.

Once again great set !

PJ Harvey & John Parish @ Bataclan 1 Paris May 17th 2009

Pj Harvey & John Parish @ Bataclan
1st show May 17th 2009
Tom Brosseau
1st of two sold-out shows @ Paris' Bataclan.

Folk- Country american artist Tom Brosseau opened the show on acoustic guitar. He did well even tough people in the back didn' t seem interested.

With Polly-Jean from tour to tour everything is different , last time she was alone on piano and different other instruments & before that she was rocking hard on guitars with her band.

For this tour she has a companion: John Parish and she's only singing.
The whole band is dressed smartly and PJ has a nice black dress.
As I Haven't heard the record yet I can't really tell you what they've played ( see setlist below ).
The audience is listening religiously to their indie rock ; some cool songs, a few heavy ones.
PJ is the main attraction tonight and John seemed to be only a member of the band.
He sang only once ( PJ doing backing ).
Really nice gig , see ya tomorrow

Rough Trade Records stealing videos on You Tube for Jarvis Cocker's promotional video of " Angela"

Record Companies are shouting out loud that people are stealing music by downloading illegal files.

Well they do the same:
Rough Trade Records to illustrate Jarvis Cocker's first single " Angela" have stole 2 videos on Youtube recorded @ Galerie Chappe last week and mixed them as one.

"And there we go we've got a brand new video and it didn't cost us a fucking penny !!!"

I wouldn't mind at all in other circumstances but the only problem is that
THEY STOLE MY VIDEO

Here are the originals:
one (mine ) & two

Mick Jagger 's private show @ Cannes festival

Mick Jagger & Dave Stewart will play a private show @ The VIP Room in Cannes on May 21st.
This show will take place to seal his business deal with French designer Claude Audigier.

One more thing , Universal will issue shortly remastered version of the Rolling Stones Discography and ... Censorship is fighting hard.
The song Star Star has been censored , you won't hear the "Pussy" word as they've mixed the previous sentence over the sentence that contains the word " Pussy".
Which means that they've used the first version of the American master.

Beirut @ Bataclan Paris May 12th 2009

Beirut @ Bataclan Paris May 12th 2009.
As Green Day's concert @ The Trabendo ended very early we went straight to the sold out Bataclan ( easy it's on my way home ) to catch the end of Beirut's gig.
Of course we didn't see Mina Tindle who was opening tonight.
I don't know if it was because we were coming from Green day but i thought that Beirut was quite boring, I hate that kind of eastern rock gipsy with brass à la Emir Kusturika.

Green Day @ Trabendo Paris
May 12th 2009

setlist inaccurate , they've done more

After seeing them yesterday @ L' Album de la Semaine tv show for Canal+ , I wanted more of that powerful pop music.
What the FFFFFUUUUUUUUCCCCCKKKKKK !!!
Do these guys have to go to bed early or what ? Is their mummy waiting for them at home ?
It's 7:30 and the show has already started for more than 20 min.
Guess I'm late one more time.
Anyway , they know how to entertain 17 year old girls , all screaming like maniacs, they also know how to play their shit , it's absolutely perfect.
Songs are really good too
They're very entertaining even though they're playing a very light american " Punk" , some called it Disney-Punk.
Lost of new songs ( some are 6 min+ ) and a few oldies thrown in at the end.
They've added lots of songs to the original setlist.
They didn't get 20 yelling girls on stage like yesterday , only one but she sang a couple of verses from a song , Lucky you !
Great Show
Sad they're acting like fucking rock stars just because 20 underage girls are waiting for them at the end of the show.
Hey guys come back to mother earth, You're not supposed to be Punks ?
Joe Strummer ( Who ? ) is probably laughing out loud from his grave.

Green Day @ L' Album de la Semaine Canal+ Paris May 11th 2009

Green Day @ L' Album de la Semaine Canal+
Paris May 11th 2009

After a week with former Brit-pop lead singer of Pulp : Jarvis Cocker .
It's time for some American Punk-Rock with Green Day.
They called this Punk but it ain't Punk at all for me , Green Day is more a powerfull pop band than anything else.
I made my way into the tiny studio that holds 200 people while the band was already playing their first song , the show had started earlier than usual.
The sound is crystal clear , it's unbelievable , absolutely perfect.
Many years ago they were 3 on stage now there's an additional guitar player and a keyboard-guitar player.
The set didn't last too long they're here to perform some of their new songs ( including the new single ) plus a couple of oldies including " American Idiot".
The band is on top form it's almost too perfect ( for a Punk band LOL ).
Lots of teenage girls in the audience , they even had their 15 min of fame as the singer asked 30 of them to come on stage a couple of times.
It's the first time ever that i'm seeing so much security between the stage ( well it's not really a stage as people are seating in stalls and the band is playing on the floor ) and the audience at L' Album de la semaine.
Are these guys afraid of something ?
Anyway ...Really nice 40 min + gig.
After the show only the bassist came to sign a couple of things to fans outside , the others went straight into their limousine.
Call it Punk ?

Jarvis Cocker @ Galerie Chappe Day 6 Paris May 10th 2009

Day 6 & Last day
Jarvis Cocker @ Galerie Chappe
May 10th 2009
Interviewed by Clash Mag / Relaxing
The whole band minus Steve

Today is the last day of Jarvis Cocker's residency at the Galerie Chappe in Montmartre.
So things are gonna be a bit different than the other days no ' Kids class' , 'Belly dancers' or ' Yoga Class' .
There will be no jamming with members of the audience ( well almost ) , just an outdoor gig to celebrate a great week.

Things are getting ready for a show at 4:00 PM
As an introduction The Band jammed once again with a kid on trumpet , who was there a couple of days ago.
Then Jarvis played, on his own , a couple of acoustic tracks.

Jarvis is blessing the audience ( right )
4:00 PM
It's time to rock Montmartre for the last time . As the band is playing inside the Galerie Chappe
Jarvis is singing on the stairs on the front porch doing the show for the 200+ people that gathered on the tiny place.
It's funny to attend a concert like this with cars and tourists passing by wondering what's going on.
SETLIST :
1) Further complications 2) Caucasian Blues 3) Leftover 4) I never said i was deep 5) Homewrecker 6) Pilchard (instrumental ) 7) Holdstill & 8) Angela

Nice 45 min set with Jarvis thanking everyone involved including the poor neighbors who had to endure rock music 4 to 5 hours a day for a week.
It was really nice to meet people , many of them came several times, during the residency ; the band , the crew & Jarvis were nice to everyone , always available for a chat or photos.
Thanks Guys.
Jarvis will play the Bataclan on June 4th.

Jarvis Jamming ( left ) & Erika Forster incognito ( right )

Many things happened today , I went there earlier than usual ( 12:30), the band was already jamming then they played a couple of songs twice .
Jarvis went out for a couple of interviews , so there was a break.
The band started jamming once again , then a girl came to play on keyboard for a long jam ( 13 min ).
Another guest was welcome to play acoustic guitar so we had another jam.
I spotted Erika forster from Au Revoir Simone in the audience ( see picture ) then Annie Hart ( from ARS ) who went to sit down the front as well.
Of course when Jarvis asked people who wanted to come on stage and play, they both raised their hands like 2 good schoolgirls knowing the right answer.
Just the time to set things up and Heather d' Angelo was joining the whole gang and all were ready to break the house down.
The jam lasted almost half an hour divided into 3 pieces. ( 2 of them are here on video , the first and the last )

This guy can play anything

Come on Jarvis ! what are you looking at ?

Things are getting ready
Jarvis & Au Revoir Simone in full action

Humm , there's something going on between Jarvis & Annie ( Left )
WORLD EXCLUSIVE : Au Revoir Simone has become a quartet (right)

After this we needed a well deserved break, unfortunately it was started to rain to Jarvis told me that the concert outdoor was cancelled as " electricity doesn't mix well with rain ".
He did a photo session anyway with a photographer from the sunday times.
I took the time to chat with the girls from ARS , nice as usual.
[ Hi Girls;-) Have a nice journey in Bruxelles ]

Jarvis is trying to stop the rain in his own way ( left )
Damn , it's not working or is it a pigeon shitting ?( right )

Jarvis & the band did another jam and then we had the gig everybody was waiting for , the place was packed .
7 songs : 1.Further Complications 2. Caucasian Blues 3. Leftovers 4. I Never Said I Was Deep 5. Hold Still 6. Slush 7. Angela ( thanks for the setlist to A short site About Divine comedy )

Great day , the best for the whole week.
Lots of rocking , a great surprise ( Au revoir Simone ) , a great gig and lots of beautiful girls ...
What more can I ask for ?

Day 4
Jarvis Cocker @ Galerie Chappe
May 8th 2009

Jarvis rocking & checking the sound for the Poetry

The first two songs played were : " I never said that I was deep" and " I told you that i love you " then the band jammed , played " hold still " , "leftovers " and " further complications " ( not in this order )

10 Min Break

Improvisation with part of the band ( the rest was out to lunch ) then Anthony Hadden - Guest came to read 4 poems including one with Jarvis on drums.
The last one (here on video) is sounding a bit like a Lou Reed song. Cool
The band played " Homewrecker ", "pilchard" , " Slush" and " Fucking song" all of them twice

another break

Jarvis & band played a 10 min version of " i don't want to loose you again".
Then it was time for people to bring their instrument and play:
1st one was a 10 year old kid playing guitar
2nd was a teenage girl on acoustic guitar and a kid on trumpet
3rd was a guitar player and sitar player
All of this with Jarvis playing Keyboard.

Jarvis left to go out only to come back 20 min later to announced that it was over for today in between we had a ridiculous Pete doherty inpersonator and his girlfriend on guitar without the band, and a couple of other guys who jammed with the band.

Guest on poetry and kid on guitar

Busy day , the place was packed , lots of jamming with people ( see pics ) but not as good as yesterday maybe because there were too many people and without the "yoga class" or the "Kids class" there was something missing. These classes were also great to relax outside.
People were not into it as much as the other days, talking while the band was playing, sad.

Jarvis Cocker @ Galerie Chappe Day 3 Paris May 7th 2009

Day 3
Jarvis Cocker @ Galerie Chappe
May 7th 2009

Once again I was a bit late , the band has already played " I don't want to loose you again" then ( in fact it's the song called " You're in my eyes(disco song)" they jammed ( a song called " je te suis, tu me suis").
Jarvis played a Velvet Underground cover " femme fatale" ( here on video ) then Jarvis and guest Glenn Max on guitar ( from Last Man Standing , he's also the programmer of the Southbank Center in london including the Royal Festival Hall 's Meltdown) jammed for 15 min à la Sonic Youth .
They played " You're in my eyes(disco song)".
Time for a break

Yoga class with an instructor, some practiced and most of the others went out to relax on the stairs of Montmartre enjoying the sunshine, Jarvis did an interview and photo session.

Then we had a belly dancer who gave a class to the music of the band feat. jarvis and Glenn.

Time for another break before Jarvis introduced guest Gonzales
They jammed for a while before playing " You're in my eyes " ? ," Angela " , Survivor 's " the eye of the tiger" as people were asking for more they played " Further Complications".
Once again a great day probably the best since the beginning of the residency.

We went out for a drink and on our way home there was a shooting with this French actor ( can't remember his name ).

Nice afternoon again with Jarvis Cocker and his band
A bit of rehearsals to start with , then he played a song a few times( homewrecker ) to get it right and ask someone from the audience who had his guitar to play with the band , then they jammed for a few minutes.
Jarvis went to answer a few questions for the press outside and relaxed on the stairs of Montmartre.
At the same time his band was jamming with an artist ( ? ) on piano.

Late night show as the band didn't start before midnight ( so technically we were the 5th ).
The Baron is a very high profile trendy club in Paris as it only holds 200 people max.
As the band is walking on stage it's getting a bit busy but most of the people will come after the band is long gone around 1 pm.
Of course the place is packed with beautiful girls.
It's weird to see such a band in such an unusual place considering the music they're playing : a mix of 60's psyche and stoner influenced by Black sabbath.
They only played 5-6 songs for no more than half an hour but people enjoyed it a lot , sooo cool to headbang on stoner music in a trendy club.
Really cool set but way too short.
It seems that the guitarist is a good friend with Lizzie Jagger, who was there to support them.
Had a quick chat with the singer after the show who told me they already played La Cigale with the Ting Tings ( Inrocks Fest ) and the Fleche d' Or.
Don't miss them next time.
Some guests : Rachid Taha ( with the hat )

Jarvis Cocker @ Galerie Chappe Rehearsals and setting up Mai 4th 2009

Jarvis Cocker @ Galerie Chappe
Paris Mai 4th 2009

I went to the Galerie Chappe to see what was going on this afternoon , the band was already setting up the gear and soundchecking.
It lasted for a couple of hours. They didn't play any songs but bits of this and that.
Pictures for the exhibition were received so I helped the owner to put them on the wall, we tried to find a nice way , hope you'll like it.
As usual problems were coming our way as the Police went to the galery to tell that there were too much noise and neighboors complained about it.
So I guess you'd better come on the first day as there might be some big problems with the cops,as the galery doesn't really have a license to organised a gig, , I just hope nothing will be cancel.
See ya tomorrow.

Jarvis Cocker @ Galerie Chappe Paris May 5 - 10

From the NME:
Jarvis Cocker has announced that he will make an "exhibition of himself" by staging several unique events at a Parisian art gallery next week.

In a statement issued today (May 1), the former Pulp frontman said that he is attempting to answer the question "What is music?" by creating a musical event that is a living art form.

During the series of events scheduled to run from May 5-10 at Paris' Galerie Chappe, Cocker and his band will provide musical accompaniment for a number of yoga, pilates and relaxation classes, as well as kids' events. He has also invited fans to the gallery to bring their own instruments and jam with him and his band.

Several special guest appearances will also take place during the week, which will culminate with a performance of music the artists intend to write during the five-day period.

From Tuesday 5th of May until Sunday 10th of May I will be occupying Galerie Chappe, 4, Rue Andre Barsacq, 75018 Paris, France (+33 1 42 62 42 12 www.galeriechappe.fr) from 12 noon til 6/7pm each day (maybe later some nights) & attempting to answer these pertinent questions. I will be assisted by the members of my band: Martin Craft, Steve Mackey, Tim McCall, Ross Orton & Simon Stafford plus, at various times, we hope to be joined by other musicians currently living in the Paris area.
& THEN
If you live locally please come down & join in this experiment. If you don’t you can follow its progress on www.jarviscocker.net which will run for the duration of the installation (more details soon). Each day will be archived & re-broadcast for the convenience of those living in different time-zones.
& FINALLY
A selection of Rankin’s photography for my soon-to-be-released album “Further Complications” will be on view during the course of this show. These images are an integral part of the exhibition & will also be offered for sale through the gallery.

Derek Trucks Band @ Alhambra Paris

Posters for the show ( left ) & Tour with Passes ( right )

First time i was seeing Derek Trucks with his band , he played on Eric Clapton's last solo tour with Doyle Bramhall.
He's also playing with his uncle Butch Trucks in the Allman Brothers Band.
The gig was divided in two sets ( 50 min for the first ).
As you can expect , lots and lots of guitars soli , it's hard to believe how such a young musician can be so talented on guitar.
He's a master of the slide and is playing without plectrum but his fingers.
The guy knows what he's doing and is very concentrated on his playing , the music goes from southern blues to free jazz.
He played a FANTASTIC version of " Anyday " from Derek & the Dominoes , the most beautiful and powerful version i have ever heard. INCREDIBLE
What an amazing guitar player !
