BB Brunes + Hugh Coltman @ Bellevilloise for Le Ring, Paris Dec 18 2012

BB Brunes + Hugh Coltman @ Bellevilloise for Le Ring tv show on France Ô , Paris Dec 18 2012

First time we're attending Le Ring TV recording for France Ô, in fact we've never heard of it before, this TV program already had Michael Kinawuka, Charlie Winston, Selah Sue and a few others.
Each time two artists are playing 5-6 songs each on a Box Ring, tonight we have English musician Hugh Coltman an french Rock band BB Brunes.
Early start as we're making our way into the Bellevilloise club around 7:30 pm and leaving the premises at 9:00pm.
Nice setting with a small white stage.
First is Hugh Coltman with his drummer and keyboard player for a cool short set of folk-rock.
Then we have the BB Brunes, lots of teenage girls in the audience who came specially for them but no screaming, everyone is very relaxed and enjoying the music.
It's less rock and more "dance" but enjoyable.

Eric Truffaz @ Studio SFR, Paris Dec 13 2012 8:30pm

Eric Truffaz @ Studio SFR, Paris Dec 13 2012 8:30pm
A little bit of Jazz music can't do us any harm after all the Rock'n Roll we've been listening to all these years. We're great fans of Freddie Hubbard over here @ Rockerparis so Eric Truffaz is allright for us.
We've missed the first song as we were @ Ballades Sonores for Marie-Flore 's acoustic set.
It's an all seated event (a first) at Studio SFR for us full of people in their 50's, I guess Jazz music is only for boring old fart.
Youngsters are really missing something, another great performance mainly instrumental with a couple of songs with a girl on vocals. Perfect music to chill out and relax after a hard work day.
Don't be afraid by the word "Jazz" this is not the boring side of jazz but the best one.
One hour set that should be broadcated on the SFR website.

Marie-Flore @ Ballades Sonores, Paris Dec 13 2012 7:30pm

Marie-Flore @ Ballades Sonores, Paris Dec 13 2012 7:30pm
Small gathering of fans, even though the store is packed (it's very small)
for a short electro-acoustic set (around 7-8 songs), we had to leave the premises after just 3 songs as it started late and we had to go to the Studio SFR to see Eric Truffaz, too bad for us; she has a soft voice and her songs are really nice.

Rich Robinson (The Black Crowes) @ Silencio club, Paris Dec 12 2012 10:45 pm

Rich Robinson @ Silencio club, Paris Dec 12 2012 10:45 pm
setlist

This is our third show tonight, after seeing Rich Robinson playing an acoustic free showcase @ fargo Store @ 6:00pm (click for video, pics and short review) and FOALS playing at Canal+ tv show L'Album de la Semaine, and the second with none other than Rich Robinson from The Black Crowes fame.

He's playing David Lynch's club : Le Silencio which is a private club only opened to members, membership is costing you your right arm and you have to work in media or art to be a member.

We went to see The Rolling Stones playing a club show last October @ Trabendo then we went to the Stones once again playing a private show for some bankers @ Théatre Mogador and finally we were invited by The Rolling Stones to attend one of their rehearsals, needless to tell you that even without being a member getting in was a piece of cake.Well sort of... thanks to the man who invited me in.

Beautiful club but there's nobody, I could see the raffle winners from fargo (check the link for story) and some other guests from the band that were at Fargo, can't believe that Rich is gonna play in such a tiny room in front of 60 to 80 people including members of the club.
It's like attending a gig in my living room !
Rich is playing with his band and is starting the gig with a very cool instrumental from an unknown German band Agitation Free that is sounding like The dead, from the back the sound is neat but down the front it's a bit loud and it's hard to hear the second guitar or lap-steel.
We have some new song form the new album. Rich is probably not the best singer but when it comes to playing the 6-string, as american would say: "The motherfucker can play".
Lots of extended soli and jams all along the set as we like them: cool, innovative and fluent.
I haven't heard such classic guitars for a long time, last time being the last Black Crowes show in Paris or the Winwood/ Clapton concert @ Paris Bercy.
The fender Rhodes is adding some extra flavour specially on War's "war drums" cover song, but still we have more and more guitars...
the band is not leaving the stage for the encore.
This day wouldn't be perfect without a Rolling Stones song "Winter" from "Goats' head soap" and final song of this 60 min set Fleetwood mac's "Oh Well"
Terrific !!!

FOALS @ Album de la semaine, Paris, Dec 12 2012 8:00pm

FOALS @ Album de la semaine Canal+, Paris, Dec 12 2012 8:00pm
setlist
Indie English band FOALS  promoting their new album "Holy Fire" to be out next year in February.
We saw them a couple of times in Paris @ Rock en Seine and @ the very same tv show and we didn't really liked what we  heard. They are very popular, specially in England where they sold the Royal Albert Hall in twenty minutes, hard to believe.
Not too fan of their african-dance-pop-rock, though better than expected.

Rich Robinson (The Black Crowes) @ Fargo, Paris Dec 12 2012, free show @ 6:00pm

Rich Robinson (The Black Crowes) @ Fargo, Paris Dec 12 2012, free show @ 6:00pm

SETLIST: (Thanks to Thierry for the setlist AND all the details) :
1) Lost And Found (extrait du dernier LP/CD Through A Crooked Sun)
2) Sunday Night Buttermilk Waltz (intrumental issu du catalogue des Crowes, paru à l'origine en B-side puis en bonus track des éditions remasterisées de Amorica (1994))
3) Follow You Forever (extrait de Through A Crooked Sun)
4) Falling Again (idem)
5) Look Through My Window (inclus à l'origine sur le CD 4 titres promo Llama Blues EP, édité en tirage très limité aux States lors de la parution de Through A Crooked Sun, a depuis été ajouté en bonus track sur le CD pressage européen de l'album). A noter le "I forgot the Lyrics!" pendant l'interprétation du titre!
6) What Is Home? (tiré de Before The Frost, avant-dernier album des Crowes (2009), ce fut le 1er titre que Rich interpreta en lead sur un album du groupe).

Great to see M. Rich Robinson from The Black Crowes fame playing such a small (free) showcase in a record store in Paris. The little store is packed with die-hard fans , Rich is here with some members of his band but he will play on his own on acoustic guitar and singing without any PA, so you could hear a pin drop during the gig. 3 songs from the new album and a couple of gems. Great gig.
Rich is very nice and chatty, explaining how sorry he is that his booking agent booked the band to play in a private club ( @ David Lynch's Silencio Club) that is only open to private members. So he's offering a few tickets with a raffle and the people winning ( 6 in all) will be on his personal guest list.
How nice of him.
Then everyone could get his cd signed and buy some stuff, that's when we left  as we had another show to attend.
But hey ! we had to go to the Silencio Club...

FIDLAR @ Album de la Semaine, Paris Dec 10 2012

FIDLAR @ Album de la Semaine,Canal+  Paris Dec 10 2012

Harcore/Punk band from california FIDLAR  is about to release it's first album and is playing famous canal+ Tv show L'Album de la semaine to promote it.
Never really heard of them before but it's a nice discovery  in the style of D.R.I or Gang Green with a bit of surf music in it.
Lots of short and heavy songs with nice riff and probably stupid lyrics as they called a song "Cocaine" as they love it !
Even though they're drinking between songs , acting like idiots and  trying to sound a bit "noisy", you can hear that the playing is neat and the band very professional when it comes to rock.
Very nice , fresh and heavy set.
That's the kind of shit we dig @ Rockerparis.

James Iha @ Maroquinerie, Paris Dec 05 2012

James Iha @ Maroquinerie, Paris Dec 05 2012
Former SMASHING PUMPKINS and A PERFECT CIRCLE  guitar player James Iha playing @ Maroquinerie to promote his second solo record

Hard to believe that there is a show tonight @ Maroquinerie, when we arrived there at 8:00pm , there's no one outside, in fact people are waiting in the corridor, no more than 10 people and everybody's waiting for the guest list to open. They do have several guest-lists and they are full of names so I guess that they only sold a few dozens tickets.
James Iha is playing with two musicians, one on guitar and one on keyboards plus a drum machine.
He's playing mainly his new album, well it's for most of it dull and boring, there are a couple of covers: Patti smith's "dancing barefoot" and the SPumpkins' "mayonnaise" and these two are the only decent songs performed tonight. His voice is weak and sometimes off key, he looks as if he doesn't give a fuck.
60 min show with no encore,  he didn't come back even though people asked for more, I'm really wondering why they asked him back, it was sooo boring.
Hard to believe that this guy was in the Smashing Pumpkins.

What the fuck was I doing here when Mark Lanegan is playing at the Trabendo ?!?

Bettye Lavette @ Album de la Semaine, Paris Dec 03 2012

Bettye Lavette @ Album de la Semaine, Paris Dec 03 2012

Bettye Lavette is celebrating 50 years in the music business with a new album " Thankful N’ Thoughtful" and a new Tour, she will be playing @ Alhambra in Paris on Dec 05.
Before that she's playing famous canal+ tv show L'Album de la Semaine.
She may be well-known for singing soul orientated music but with the new album she's more into something else but still with that soul touch.
First song is much more Rock than expected with Savoy Brown's "I'm Tired", next is a very quiet and soulfull version of Gnarls Barclay's "Crazy" which I didn't recognized at all.
Neil Young's version of "Everybody knows..." was folky, we even had a Bob Dylan and a Tom Waits song that could be more Cabaret.
I guess it was a bit of a surprise for us to have all these covers that are far from the soul we know her for, but as it's the kind of stuff that we like we were more than satisfied.
Too bad she only played a short 6 song-set for no more than 30 min.
