ROCKERPARIS Top Concerts for 2012- The best, the New, the Old and the worst of 2012

ROCKERPARIS "TOP 10" ROCK CONCERTS
The best shows, The nice surprises and the crap...of 2012

We've been to 150 rock concerts this year and we stayed in Paris for (almost) all of them excluding two shows in Lyon and Strasbourg for Guns N Roses and the Arras Main square Fest with Pearl Jam.

1- BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN & The E Street Band.
@ Paris Bercy July 4 & July 5 2012
Without a doubt BRUCE is the BOSS of 2012
2 Fantastic shows @ Paris Bercy Arena, both shows Sold-out with 18000 people screaming like one man. each show lasted more than 3h40 min.
First Tour without the Big Man.
The second show being the best and each time we had a terrific "seat" in da pit down the front.
the video below speaks for itself:

2- The ROLLING STONES
The celebration for the 50th anniversary were nowhere to be seen and suddenly the Rolling Stones were everywhere, it started with the recording of two songs at the end of August in Suresnes then the band started rehearsing just outside Paris on Oct 1st for more than a month.
They've played one club show @ Trabendo on Oct 25 which was a dream come true: seeing the Stones in a 500 capacity club, Then it was a private show for bankers @ 1500 capacity Theatre Mogador on Oct 29.
The best was yet to come when they invited us at their penultimate rehearsals on Nov 08 another dream come true seeing The Rolling Stones at work for more than 50 min. A "mini-Trabendo" as Mick Jagger called it.

3- JACK WHITE
@ L'Album de la Semaine for canal+ April 20, @  Cigale April 22 & RTL radio show on July 03rd
Not only he had one of the best album of 2012 with "Blunderbuss" but the man is going on Tour with two different bands ( one male band and one female band). We were lucky to get both bands at the Canal+ tv show in front of just 150 people. The Cigale show was terrific, Ice on the cake was a private 30 min showcase for a 100 people at RTL radio in the afternoon of July 03rd.
I'm still wondering why we didn't attend both his shows @ Olympia Hall on July 03 & 04.

4- GUNS N ROSES @ Paris Bercy June 05 , Halle Tony Garnier June10, Zénith Strasbourg June 11
No matter what the critics are saying, this "Guns N Roses" or Axl Rose's band IS terrific on stage more than 2h30 min on stage lots of great songs including the one from "Chinese Democracy" and AXL on top form.

5- BLUE OYSTER CULT @ Montereau June 09
A classic band , Classic songs even though there are only two original members
Lou Reed opened and was horrible

Then in no particular order:
GRANDADDY @ Rock en Seine
The band was back together & it was our first time for us

METALLICA + The Kills @ Stade de France May 12
Maybe not their best show ( Sonisphere was fantastic with the big Four in 2011) but we were in the pit down the front once again so the view was top. The Kills were booed off stage

IGGY & THE STOOGES @ Casino de Paris
Private show for a beer brand, not really THE Stooges as there is only Iggy from the original line-up but still kicking ass and we went ON stage for this one, our second time as we already went on stage with The Stooges @ Fete de l'Humanité in front of 50 000 people a few years ago.

MILES KANE @ Cigale April 20, @ Arras in June, @ Casino de Paris Jan 30 opening for Arctic Monkeys.
Once again Miles played several shows in Paris promoting his first solo album, each time with class

WORST SHOWS:
The Musical Box @ Olympia
Genesis cover band : worst piece of shit I have even seen, nothing to with the band but the music ...
James Iha @ Maroquinerie was a joke

We also had a good time with:
Chris Cornell solo @ Cigale June 22
Nick Lowe @ New Morning Feb 12
America @ Bataclan March 17
Leon Russell @ New Morning March 19
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers @ Grand Rex June 27
Noel Gallagher @ Grand Rex March 06 & casino de Paris
Imelda may @ Olympia May 11
Pearl Jam @ Arras June 30
ZZ TOP @ Olympia July 27
Steve Miller band @ Olympia Nov 02
Suzanne Vega @ Casino d' Enghien Oct 19
Rich Robinson @ Fargo & Silencio Dec 12

Eric Truffaz @ Studio SFR, Paris Dec 13 2012 8:30pm

Eric Truffaz @ Studio SFR, Paris Dec 13 2012 8:30pm
A little bit of Jazz music can't do us any harm after all the Rock'n Roll we've been listening to all these years. We're great fans of Freddie Hubbard over here @ Rockerparis so Eric Truffaz is allright for us.
We've missed the first song as we were @ Ballades Sonores for Marie-Flore 's acoustic set.
It's an all seated event (a first) at Studio SFR for us full of people in their 50's, I guess Jazz music is only for boring old fart.
Youngsters are really missing something, another great performance mainly instrumental with a couple of songs with a girl on vocals. Perfect music to chill out and relax after a hard work day.
Don't be afraid by the word "Jazz" this is not the boring side of jazz but the best one.
One hour set that should be broadcated on the SFR website.

Marie-Flore @ Ballades Sonores, Paris Dec 13 2012 7:30pm

Marie-Flore @ Ballades Sonores, Paris Dec 13 2012 7:30pm
Small gathering of fans, even though the store is packed (it's very small)
for a short electro-acoustic set (around 7-8 songs), we had to leave the premises after just 3 songs as it started late and we had to go to the Studio SFR to see Eric Truffaz, too bad for us; she has a soft voice and her songs are really nice.

FOALS @ Album de la semaine, Paris, Dec 12 2012 8:00pm

FOALS @ Album de la semaine Canal+, Paris, Dec 12 2012 8:00pm
setlist
Indie English band FOALS  promoting their new album "Holy Fire" to be out next year in February.
We saw them a couple of times in Paris @ Rock en Seine and @ the very same tv show and we didn't really liked what we  heard. They are very popular, specially in England where they sold the Royal Albert Hall in twenty minutes, hard to believe.
Not too fan of their african-dance-pop-rock, though better than expected.

Rich Robinson (The Black Crowes) @ Fargo, Paris Dec 12 2012, free show @ 6:00pm

Rich Robinson (The Black Crowes) @ Fargo, Paris Dec 12 2012, free show @ 6:00pm

SETLIST: (Thanks to Thierry for the setlist AND all the details) :
1) Lost And Found (extrait du dernier LP/CD Through A Crooked Sun)
2) Sunday Night Buttermilk Waltz (intrumental issu du catalogue des Crowes, paru à l'origine en B-side puis en bonus track des éditions remasterisées de Amorica (1994))
3) Follow You Forever (extrait de Through A Crooked Sun)
4) Falling Again (idem)
5) Look Through My Window (inclus à l'origine sur le CD 4 titres promo Llama Blues EP, édité en tirage très limité aux States lors de la parution de Through A Crooked Sun, a depuis été ajouté en bonus track sur le CD pressage européen de l'album). A noter le "I forgot the Lyrics!" pendant l'interprétation du titre!
6) What Is Home? (tiré de Before The Frost, avant-dernier album des Crowes (2009), ce fut le 1er titre que Rich interpreta en lead sur un album du groupe).

Great to see M. Rich Robinson from The Black Crowes fame playing such a small (free) showcase in a record store in Paris. The little store is packed with die-hard fans , Rich is here with some members of his band but he will play on his own on acoustic guitar and singing without any PA, so you could hear a pin drop during the gig. 3 songs from the new album and a couple of gems. Great gig.
Rich is very nice and chatty, explaining how sorry he is that his booking agent booked the band to play in a private club ( @ David Lynch's Silencio Club) that is only open to private members. So he's offering a few tickets with a raffle and the people winning ( 6 in all) will be on his personal guest list.
How nice of him.
Then everyone could get his cd signed and buy some stuff, that's when we left  as we had another show to attend.
But hey ! we had to go to the Silencio Club...

FIDLAR @ Album de la Semaine, Paris Dec 10 2012

FIDLAR @ Album de la Semaine,Canal+  Paris Dec 10 2012

Harcore/Punk band from california FIDLAR  is about to release it's first album and is playing famous canal+ Tv show L'Album de la semaine to promote it.
Never really heard of them before but it's a nice discovery  in the style of D.R.I or Gang Green with a bit of surf music in it.
Lots of short and heavy songs with nice riff and probably stupid lyrics as they called a song "Cocaine" as they love it !
Even though they're drinking between songs , acting like idiots and  trying to sound a bit "noisy", you can hear that the playing is neat and the band very professional when it comes to rock.
Very nice , fresh and heavy set.
That's the kind of shit we dig @ Rockerparis.

Bettye Lavette @ Album de la Semaine, Paris Dec 03 2012

Bettye Lavette @ Album de la Semaine, Paris Dec 03 2012

Bettye Lavette is celebrating 50 years in the music business with a new album " Thankful N’ Thoughtful" and a new Tour, she will be playing @ Alhambra in Paris on Dec 05.
Before that she's playing famous canal+ tv show L'Album de la Semaine.
She may be well-known for singing soul orientated music but with the new album she's more into something else but still with that soul touch.
First song is much more Rock than expected with Savoy Brown's "I'm Tired", next is a very quiet and soulfull version of Gnarls Barclay's "Crazy" which I didn't recognized at all.
Neil Young's version of "Everybody knows..." was folky, we even had a Bob Dylan and a Tom Waits song that could be more Cabaret.
I guess it was a bit of a surprise for us to have all these covers that are far from the soul we know her for, but as it's the kind of stuff that we like we were more than satisfied.
Too bad she only played a short 6 song-set for no more than 30 min.

THE ROLLING STONES @ Théatre Mogador for Carmignac Gestion
Paris Oct 29 2012

Merci à Miss T&A pour les invits & ses amis gestionnaires.

SETLIST:
  1. It's only Rock N Roll
  2. All Down The Line
  3. You Got Me Rocking
  4. Tumbling Dice
  5. Miss You
  6. You Cant Always Get What You Want
  7. Doom And Gloom
  8. Midnight Rambler
  9. Start Me Up
  10. Honky Tonk Women
  11. Jumping Jack Flash
  12. Brown Sugar
The theatre was full tonight (all 3 levels) with numbered seat downstairs for vips and 1st balcony then unreserved for the rest.So I guess it was sold-out in this 1600 capacity theatre. Not sure if there was anyone on the top balcony, Haven't checked.
Security was tight, to get in and during the show, impossible to take pics , except for our photographer Patrice Guino, but he's the Man.
The band is on top form starting with it's only Rock'n Roll, no one seems to know the next song "all down the line" from where we were but downstairs down the front it was rocking with musicians from Americano-French band Moriarty, they could easily get tix for tonight as the bass player in the band is the son of M Carmignac who introduced the band on stage.
During "Miss you" Mick Jagger had a few problems with his ear'monitor and had it fixed by a roadie on the side of the stage: he was furious. so we had an extra guitar solo by Ronnie and of course a groovy bass solo by Darryl.
Once again Mick pushed Ronnie several times on the front of the stage.
Keith Richards ' playing is kept to a minimum which is very worrying.Ronnie is now holding the house together taking all the lead.
Bernard Fowler is back with the Stones (He rehearsed with them for the first time one day after the Trabendo on Oct 26, setlist below for the completists). -Now that I think of it I'm pretty sure that I saw Bernard backstage @ Trabendo-
Jagger is playing guitar on "Doom & Gloom".

The not so funny bit was when Mick Jagger talked about a letter M Carmignac sent to French President François Hollande (probably complaining about taxing the rich a bit more ) and Mick laughed with all those bankers saying that "he never read (or heard of any of ) Hollande's reply".
As soon as the name of Hollande was heard everybody booeed.
He also asked if Hollande has been invited to the gig ! With the audience laughing !
It really shows what a cunt Mick Jagger has become : a rich laughing with the rich
No surprise that's he's charging his fans so much for London & Newark, disrespectful for the working class who have bought and are buying his records. What a fucking shame !
The biggest Rock'n Roll band playing & laughing with bankers and brokers !!! so sad !

Anyway enough of politics it was a great show !!! Glad we could make it.
75-80 min set (?)
