Rolling Stones' Rehearsals in Paris Day 7 , Feb 11 2014

Franchement:
"Laisseriez-vous vos fenêtres épouser un Rolling Store(s)"
The band is leaving the hotel later and later each day, Keith is impossible to see in or out.
Bobby Keys is in Paris too, he was already there yesterday.
From my spies at the studio: there are more and more people each day, even a couple with a baby-buggy and the kid in it
Two very old women came down and asked where should they get their tickets to get in ?!? WHAT THE FUCK !!!
The Press is also trying to get footage of the Stones on their way in but the security is getting tighter and tighter and they could not get anything at all.
It's getting really silly !!!
Even someone working at the studio told the fans outside that there was no way that the Stones will let fans in like they did last year as there were too many people !!! Too bad as I wanted to get there myself tomorrow.
Great setlist with the addition of "Till the next Goodbye" from IORR, It's a first !

Johnny Winter + Edgar Winter + Robben Ford + Johnny Gallagher @ Olympia, Paris April 07 2013

Johnny Winter + Edgar Winter + Robben Ford + Johnny Gallagher @ Olympia, Paris April 07 2013

It was supposed to be a double bill concert featuring Johnny Winter & ALVIN LEE, unfortunately Alvin died a few weeks ago so the promoter turned it into a tribute show with Johnny Winter headlining and adding a few guests.
We arrived too late to see Tommy Emmanuel, gigs @ the Olympia are starting very early on sundays.
Johnny Gallagher was already on stage when we made our way into a packed Olympia. Hard to find anyone below 50.
Cool set with a nice Joe South/Jimi Hendrix cover of "Hey Joe" with Johnny singing through the microphone of his acoustic guitar, that was stuck to his mouth, interesting !

Intermission with Manu Lanvin & the blue devils in the lobby of the Olympia but we perferred to stay down the front in the main hall to get a good spot as Johnny Winter is sitting down to play the guitar.

From what I can remember Edgar Winter started to sing a song (Here's the video, That is NOT on the setlist) with JW's band, then Robben Ford joined for one song, (click for video) Edgar introduced his brother but a roadie came to the rescue by introducing JW's band which played a song before Johnny Winter walked carefully to his microphone, standing up for the first song then sitting down for the rest of the gig.
That was a "Guitar Night", Johnny might be very freil but he can still deliver his share of neat guitar licks. Lots of cover are played (Stones , Ray Charles, blues standards... see setlist below for details).
Hard to see Johnny's face at all for the whole set with his cow-boy's hat on his head but I guess the bright light might be a problem. Edgar Winter remained on stage for most of the gig playing saxophone or piano. Robben Ford was invited back on stage for a couple of songs.
Each song was played with extended guitar soli, real pleasure to see Johnny in such good spirit even though he's not talking that much betwen songs.

The uptempo long version of The Stones' "Jumping Jack Flash" being the hightlight of the show.
For the encore and the last two songs Johnny took his old guitar and we had some crazy slide.
GREAT SET !

Setlist NOT accurate, the intro consisted in 3 songs (edgar Winter singing the first one, Robben Ford on the second on guitar & the JW's band on the 3rd)

Here's a song by Bobby Womack (The Valentino's) made famous by The Rolling Stones

To thank fans for standing outside in the rain and cold for the last 3 weeks listening to the rehearsals from outside and before the band is leaving for NYC , The Rolling Stones have let in 40 lucky fans and some members of the studio staff who are seeing the Stones rehearsing for the first time as only the RS team was allowed into the room.
After leaving jackets and bags and , of course, cell phones & cameras into the lobby we were escorted to a small balcony facing the tiny stage where the stones have been rehearsing since Oct 1st.
Chuck on the far left behind his keyboards with Bernard in front of him, Ronnie on the left, Charlie dead center stoical behind his drum kit, Keith on the right and Darryl on the far right. And Mick all over the place.
We can see that there are paintings stuck on the wall underneath us with the setlist written on it in big letters for each day they have rehearsed. I'de like to get a pic of that as we only have the setlist from Oct 11 onwards (courtesy of us)
They welcomed us with a few kind words and hand-signs
Even though the guys are working, you can see that they're "playing" their part: Ronnie's fooling around a bit, Keith with his trademark "kick" for the first song "Live with Me". Small gig just for us.
After that you can see they are back working properly as if we were not there watching every of their moves.
"One more shot" is started several times with indications from Chuck Leavell  who is coordinating the work on the songs, especially some of the transitions (OMS or Thats How Strong My Love Is")  He is guiding the Stones through it, he's the musical director and Mick Jagger the conductor.

It's really Incredible to attend such an event, we can see the Rolling Stones at work.
And when Keith is missing a start, he looks at us with a grin meaning " yeah I fucked it up, sorry That's my fault" with everyone cheering but not too loud as we've been instructed not to act like fools as the band is working.
Some people around me have tears in their eyes and can't believe their luck.
This is the FIRST TIME in the Rolling Stones history that they are letting fans in for a rehearsal.

For the next song the roadies 'standing to attention' are changing the guitars and Ronnie is having is Weissenborn ready and Mick is on acoustic guitar. Michel standing on my left and who is the French RS specialist is telling me " They're going to play No Expectations". Hes' right.

For the next song Mick is behind the keys with his iMac in front of him for "Worried about you", Nice falsetto. One take.

MIck is back on the mike in front of the stage for "That's how strong my love is", once again we can see The Stones at work as they are trying different endings with Chuck and Mick's indications.
All along these rehearsals in france Mick's voice has been loud and clear: incredible.
He's done it almost everyday (except week-ends) for the last 4 weeks, 4 hours every day.

We've been there for more than 45 min and mick's assistant is asking him if we have to go, "One more song" he said and we have a blues one " Little red rooster" One take.

The whole band is thanking us several times once again for being there.
we're making our way out in the cold night but we have stars in our eyes forever

50 min of  private rehearsals with The Rolling Stones, once in a lifetime.

Incredible to see the Stones rehearsing the songs with the "false" starts ("One more shot"), the different endings possible ("That's our strong...") the indications, the work, the different guitars, the roadies 'standing to attention'... just incredible
Nice cosy studio with carpets , sofas, catering, dozens of guitars
And a very nice team: security, roadies...

A big thank you to The Rolling Stones to have welcomed us for this 50min  session

19- Blues (?)
20- Rip this Joint

Raphael Saadiq @ Bataclan, Paris march 10 2012

Raphael Saadiq @ Bataclan, Paris march 10 2012

Another sold-out concert for Raphael Saadiq who's really doing very well over here.
Yesterday he played to a sold-out Olympia.
He was in Paris a few months ago when he opened for Lenny Kravitz @ Bercy.
Tonight he's playing with an extended band with brass and backing vocalists, 10 people on stage in all.
They get on stage to the sound of Barry White
They started with a very relaxed and groovy song with Raphael on guitar before he start picking up the microphone, we're back in time : 40 years before 2012 right back into the middle of the 70's for a dose of Funk-Soul.
Even though it still sounds very modern, glad we had some heavy guitars on some songs.
It's a real melting pot as he's also playing a blues song and also some New Orleans jazz.

He could be called a Recycler with all these influences, there is a bit of everything to satisfied everybody in Da house.
Raphael is an entertainer and is using every trick in the book, it's a very American show and the band is as tight as the JB's.
He's also giving a bit of a spotlight to his musicians or vocalists when songs are stretched out with extended soli.
Very entertaining !

The Ting Tings @ La Cigale, Paris March 09 2012

The Ting Tings @ La Cigale, Paris March 09 2012

Well, another show in Paris from The Ting Tings in just a few months, we saw them playing a private show for Deezer @ Caroussel du Louvre in December last year and they came back @ Fleche d'Or in January.
Opening is french dance-electro band We are enfant terrible, not our cup of tea but that was alright.
Then The Ting Tings for an hour long set (9:11 /10:15 pm).
They started the set with a very cool song before getting everyone dancing on the dancefloor of la Cigale which is like a trampoline.
The band is much more rock on stage than on records and they always deliver a good show even though we're not too fan when they're more electro.
The blonde girl is making the show and they' re much more fun on stage than The Kills.
Good gig but a bit short, 65 min that's not enough when you have 2 albums.
setlist

"Shut up & let me go"
