Palma Violets @ L'Album de la Semaine, Canal+, Paris Jan 15 2013

setlist

Palma Violets @ L'Album de la Semaine, Canal+, Paris Jan 15 2013

Another new sensation for 2013, after Jake Bugg this is Palma Violets. We were less than impressed by Jake Bugg, who's overrated. Palma Violets don't have rave reviews everywhere like Jake but these English guys know how to Rock, they have some short psyche-garage rock songs and are giving it all on stage specially the drummer and bass player.
Can't say that they have some great catchy songs but they are rocking like mad and are having a good time on stage and that's what we like.
Can't wait to see them perform in front of a "real audience" with everyone jumping up and down, slamming and  stage diving.

Their first album "180" should be out next month.

Asaf Avidam @ L'Album de la Semaine, Paris Jan 14 2013

Asaf Avidam @ L'Album de la Semaine, Paris Jan 14 2013

setlist
Israeli singer-songwriter Asaf Avidan is promoting his new solo record "Different Pulses" by playing famous canal+ TV show after a long day giving interviews for the press.
The guy is smartly dressed and is a great poser, he's playing with 3 girls (keys, cello , Backing Vocals-Percussion) and a male on drums.
As  the computer couldn't start properly for the first song , we had his hit " reckoning song" on acoustic guitar as the first song then he played the planned setlist.
Most of the songs are mid-tempo but all are very atmospheric and more mainstream than when he's playing with the Mojos.
He introduced "Jetplane" (from the Mojos) with a long speech about his influences ( Journalists are always asking him about his influences) that are from the late 30's starting with Robert Johnson to the 50's with Elvis, the 60's with the beatles, the 70's with Led Zep, thanks to his parents and the 90's with Soundgarden & Pearl Jam thanks to his brother but NOT the 80's. Originally the song is very rock but we had an 80's sounding version with Keyboards.
At first his high pinched voice can seem strange or annoying  but you get used to it very easily as he has good songs (or maybe was I seduced by the sexy girl on the Backing Vocals).
Nice stuff.

Villagers @ L'Album de la Semaine, Paris Jan 09 2013

Villagers @ L'Album de la Semaine, Paris Jan 09 2013

Irish Folk-Chamber pop band will be performing @ Canal+ tv show to promote new album "Awayland".
Can't say that this kind of music is our favorite , not really folk but more as they called it "Chamber pop" , not sure of what it means, sometimes it sounds a bit like jeff buckley specially with the singer's high voice on some songs .
We had quite a long set for this tv show as the band played 11 songs (usually it's 7) for a good 40 min+ set.
Good set but not our drug of choice.
setlist shortly

Jake Bugg @ L'Album de la Semaine Canal+ , Paris Jan 07 2013

Jake Bugg @ L'Album de la Semaine Canal+ , Paris Jan 07 2013

New English sensation playing the first Album de la Semaine, Canal+ TV show of the year 2013.
We heard the record for the first time this afternoon, just before going to the show, nice little country folk rock songs.
The stage is where people are revealing themselves, with just a bass player and a drummer , Jake Bugg is center stage, dressed like his big brother or godfather Noel Gallagher in Fred Perry clothes and maybe the same attitude , looking at his shoes on the way in and out, as if the poor fellow was going to do his shift at the local factory.
( I've been told later that he had LOTS of promo and that he had the flu)
Musically lots of late 50's early 60's country rock influences ( Johnny Cash, Buddy Holly) with a tiny bit of brit-pop from the 90's ( Oasis, Richard Ashcroft).

He's been dubbed the new sensation, I guess journalists have nothing better to do these last few months: great influences,  a good musicianship and good songs don't make you the new Hendrix.
He's good but overrated.
The press should give him time to get better like old wine for now he's just a nice and fresh Beaujolais, nothing more.
We wish him the best.

ROCKERPARIS Top Concerts for 2012- The best, the New, the Old and the worst of 2012

ROCKERPARIS "TOP 10" ROCK CONCERTS
The best shows, The nice surprises and the crap...of 2012

We've been to 150 rock concerts this year and we stayed in Paris for (almost) all of them excluding two shows in Lyon and Strasbourg for Guns N Roses and the Arras Main square Fest with Pearl Jam.

1- BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN & The E Street Band.
@ Paris Bercy July 4 & July 5 2012
Without a doubt BRUCE is the BOSS of 2012
2 Fantastic shows @ Paris Bercy Arena, both shows Sold-out with 18000 people screaming like one man. each show lasted more than 3h40 min.
First Tour without the Big Man.
The second show being the best and each time we had a terrific "seat" in da pit down the front.
the video below speaks for itself:

2- The ROLLING STONES
The celebration for the 50th anniversary were nowhere to be seen and suddenly the Rolling Stones were everywhere, it started with the recording of two songs at the end of August in Suresnes then the band started rehearsing just outside Paris on Oct 1st for more than a month.
They've played one club show @ Trabendo on Oct 25 which was a dream come true: seeing the Stones in a 500 capacity club, Then it was a private show for bankers @ 1500 capacity Theatre Mogador on Oct 29.
The best was yet to come when they invited us at their penultimate rehearsals on Nov 08 another dream come true seeing The Rolling Stones at work for more than 50 min. A "mini-Trabendo" as Mick Jagger called it.

3- JACK WHITE
@ L'Album de la Semaine for canal+ April 20, @  Cigale April 22 & RTL radio show on July 03rd
Not only he had one of the best album of 2012 with "Blunderbuss" but the man is going on Tour with two different bands ( one male band and one female band). We were lucky to get both bands at the Canal+ tv show in front of just 150 people. The Cigale show was terrific, Ice on the cake was a private 30 min showcase for a 100 people at RTL radio in the afternoon of July 03rd.
I'm still wondering why we didn't attend both his shows @ Olympia Hall on July 03 & 04.

4- GUNS N ROSES @ Paris Bercy June 05 , Halle Tony Garnier June10, Zénith Strasbourg June 11
No matter what the critics are saying, this "Guns N Roses" or Axl Rose's band IS terrific on stage more than 2h30 min on stage lots of great songs including the one from "Chinese Democracy" and AXL on top form.

5- BLUE OYSTER CULT @ Montereau June 09
A classic band , Classic songs even though there are only two original members
Lou Reed opened and was horrible

Then in no particular order:
GRANDADDY @ Rock en Seine
The band was back together & it was our first time for us

METALLICA + The Kills @ Stade de France May 12
Maybe not their best show ( Sonisphere was fantastic with the big Four in 2011) but we were in the pit down the front once again so the view was top. The Kills were booed off stage

IGGY & THE STOOGES @ Casino de Paris
Private show for a beer brand, not really THE Stooges as there is only Iggy from the original line-up but still kicking ass and we went ON stage for this one, our second time as we already went on stage with The Stooges @ Fete de l'Humanité in front of 50 000 people a few years ago.

MILES KANE @ Cigale April 20, @ Arras in June, @ Casino de Paris Jan 30 opening for Arctic Monkeys.
Once again Miles played several shows in Paris promoting his first solo album, each time with class

WORST SHOWS:
The Musical Box @ Olympia
Genesis cover band : worst piece of shit I have even seen, nothing to with the band but the music ...
James Iha @ Maroquinerie was a joke

We also had a good time with:
Chris Cornell solo @ Cigale June 22
Nick Lowe @ New Morning Feb 12
America @ Bataclan March 17
Leon Russell @ New Morning March 19
Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers @ Grand Rex June 27
Noel Gallagher @ Grand Rex March 06 & casino de Paris
Imelda may @ Olympia May 11
Pearl Jam @ Arras June 30
ZZ TOP @ Olympia July 27
Steve Miller band @ Olympia Nov 02
Suzanne Vega @ Casino d' Enghien Oct 19
Rich Robinson @ Fargo & Silencio Dec 12

Searching For Sugar man

"Searching For Sugarman"
Probably of the the best documentary on music we have sen in a long time
It's out in France in movie theatre and it is a MUST SEE whether you know the man or not.
Of course we have both of his records and they are great, two lost gems that has been re-discovered and available everywhere on cds.

The incredible story of American musician from Detroit Sixto Rodriguez who released a couple of great albums in 1969- 1970 that failed but the guy sold hundreds of thousands of albums in South Africa and became a legend down under without knowing it and of course without getting a penny.

The Rolling Stones to Tour in 2013 and Ronnie Wood weds girlfriend today

The Rolling Stones @ Magador theater in Paris

The Rolling Stones are more than likely to Tour in 2013, Coachella and Glastonbury Festivals are on the cards.
I've also been told late October that The Rolling Stones may rock Paris Bercy Arena for 3 shows.
We shall see...

in the meantime...

Paul McCartney was among the guests
Some pics HERE

Congratulations to the happy couple.

Royal Republic + Blackfeet Revolution + Sleepers @ Divan du Monde , Paris Dec 22 2012

Royal Republic + Blackfeet Revolution + Sleepers@ Divan du Monde , Paris Dec 22 2012
Sleepers

Blackfeet Revolution

Royal Republic
Last show of the year 2012 for ROCKERPARIS, Oui Fm and "Bring the noise" last free show @ Divan du Monde in Pigalle.
It's packed with lots of yougsters.
First band is Sleepers from Bordeaux, cool hard-core/Stoner French band. Nice heavy set.

Next is Blackfeet Revolution, a duet: a guy on drums and another one on guitar /Vocals, heavy bluesy band, Black Keys wanabee: fuckin' ridiculous but the kids love it, I guess they don't know how to recognize a proper blues-rock band from a shitty mama's boys band that's trying everything to look and sound cool but which is not.

Last is Royal Republic, a Swedish heavy Metal band another uninspired and useless band with some skills but no talent at all.
Once again the kids love it.
We left before the end.

PS: Congratulations to the Divan du Monde sound engineer , each band had a terrific sound, greasy and not too loud. It was PERFECT, too bad the bands were not up to the level of the sound.
