Dan San + Applause + Piano Club @ Fleche d'Or, Paris May 27 2010 Nouvel an Belge
Piano Club
Belgian people are never doing things like everybody else as they are celebrating the New Year in May with celebrations for the whole week between the end of May and the beginning of june in different locations in Paris. Tonight it's La Fleche d' Or with several rock bands from Belgium.
First on stage is retro-rock band Piano Club , if you're into Genesis or ELO this band is for you. And you know what ? They were good.
Applause
Then we're getting close to the 90's with Applause & a singer trying to impersonate Jeff Buckley. The music a cross between Jeff Buckley & Radiohead. And you know what? They were also Good.
Dan San
Then we had Dan San, also from Belgium, It's more Folk-rock with acoustic guitars and a bit of violin thrown in.
Well well well, I'm surprised by the musicianship of each band, these guys have nothing to be ashame for compare to some English or American bands. The only problem is that compare to French bands , they're way above us.

Alvin & the 1015 @ Tokyo Art Club , Palais de Tokyo Paris, May 26 2010 day & night
The famous Mathilde AKA "Madame Gateau" AKA "DJ Mime" AKA "Dépeche Mime" took me to the trendy Palais de Tokyo to attend a showcase by artist Alvin & the 1015. Last time I've been here was for Stella McCartney fashion collection show & a gig by The Kills (click for reviews).
Before the storm
The show is taking place at the top of the Palais de tokyo@ The Tokyo Art Club with a fantastic view from the terrace overlooking the Eiffel Tower. Lots of hype & so called trendy people many of them foreigners and lots of sexy girls. no the typical rock audience. Not really a fantastic party before the gig as you have to pay for a drink, what the fuck ? No open bar and no petit-four, Crisis has struck the Palais de Tokyo right in the balls !
Never heard of this guy before, he already played Arte tv-show One shot Not. He has a very dark and low voice , first thing that comes to your mind is that he's trying to be the new Tom Waits he even moves like Tom Waits Songs are really cool, some are bluesy and others are really rock like The Stooges or the early RHCP when they were NOT playing shit for 15 year old girls. No lightshow at all but projections on the wall behind the band like once again...the early Red hot Chilli Peppers.
Very good concert, Alvin has the songs , the look, the voice. He Should go far
Nice to be back @ Paris Bercy, we haven't been here for a long time. It's not sold-out but the place is packed. Lots of guests from the sponsors in the VIP stalls on the right of the stage. No opening band and it's an early start as Eric Clapton & Steve Winwood are on @ 8:20 PM The stage is beautiful but simple with split-screens in the back & the lightning is great.
Eric Clapton is standing dead center and Steve a bit on the left. Steve Gadd on drums, Willy Weeks on bass, Chris Stainton on piano Great start with "Had to cry today" (from the Blind Faith album) & The up-tempo version of "After midnight" Steve is on the guitar for the first couple of songs , he will play most of the gig behind his keyboards. They're sharing vocal duties on many songs.
Steve is not as well-known over here as he is in the USA but you can see ( hear) that he's a fantastic guitar & keyboard player as well as a great singer. Maybe he should learn the lyrics to his songs as he's constantly looking at the "tv-screen" in front of him even for his most well-known songs.
First part of the set is really rock then things are slowing down a bit, even a bit too slow for us, as some of Stevie's songs are really soft & slow. Great version of " Georgia on my mind" by Steve. Eric is Eric, always perfect.
They have played a few acoustic songs , including "Layla" ( here on video). " Gimme some loving" was absolutly fantastic. The 15 min version of " Voodoo Chile" was great but nevertheless a bit long. Too bad the backing Vocals girls : Michelle John & Sharon White stayed at the back they were stunning and really sexy. They should come down the front for the acoustic part Only one encore with "Dear Mr Fantasy" , Bercy stayed in the dark for a couple of minutes, everybody was expecting them to play another song unfortunately after 130 min this was the end. Great show even though some parts were a bit too slow.
