The Cult + Gun @ Bataclan , Paris Sept 19 2012

The Cult + Gun @ Bataclan , Paris Sept 19 2012

3 Years after playing the very same Bataclan theatre (on Oct 2nd 2009), The Cult are back in the French Capital to promote their brand new album.
It's far from being full, I guess we can blame the silly prices, 75 euros for the best seat at the balcony, Who the Fuck is gonna pay 75 euros for The Cult ?!?

GUN
is opening, they're already on stage when we're getting into the Bataclan and it's not even 7:00 PM. Jesus that's an early start. They are all-right.

Afetr a long intermission The Cult are getting on stage @ 8:30 PM sharp, too bad it's forbidden to take pictures the lightning is nice specially on Billy Duffy & Ian Astbury with some cool paintings on the backdrop.
Ian is looking much better than 3 years ago, better voice too, he's in good spirit repeating many times how much he loves Paris and chatting with the audience: "Hey man, are you texting on your mobile when you're having sex with your wife?" always with a smile on his face.
WoW !!! He's not insulting people tonight: big changes from last time.
Billy on the right is as cool as fuck, ...as ever should I say, with some neat guitar playing.
The Cult has great songs, needless to tell you, they've rocked the Bataclan.
Doesn't need that much to get an enjoyable gig: great songs and Mr Astbury in fine form.
Maybe he shouldn't blame the strict curfew for only playing 80 min including The Encore, you don't fool no one.

The Hives @ L'Album de la Semaine, Paris, Sept 18 2012

The Hives @ L'Album de la Semaine, Paris, Sept 18 2012

setlist

The Hives are back in Paris, for a private show @ canal+, just a few months after playing a kick ass gig @ Gaité Lyrique in May 2012

All dressed in Tuxedos and playing new songs only (except for one ), The Hives are still kicking ass, even though the singer is acting as usual you can see that he's trying to make sure the vocals are the best possible even when he's jumping up and down and swinging the mike as it's a TV recording.
It's not an usual gig so you cannot feel the power of the audience pushing the band or it it because the new songs are bit less good than the old ones.
Good set but it could have been a bit better.

projected setlist, they've changed a couple of things
TBC tomorrow

The Jim Jones Revue are back with a new album and they're playing a few songs from it @ canal+ TV show, from what we've heard tonight most of the songs are more quiet if I can say so...more "classic rock" 70's era à la Alice Cooper.

They came back for a second set and played some of the old stuff that is much more heavy, a cover and they replayed a couple of the heavier new songs from the first set.
It was as if the concert really started for the second set with some of the vintage boogie-rock the band has always played.
I guess some people might be disappointed by some of the new songs, the band is aging I mean... you can't scream and jump like a maniac all the time, but they're aging well.

Van Morrison @ Olympia, Paris Sept 14 2012

Van Morrison @ Olympia, Paris Sept 14 2012
Van The Man !

Once again tickets are ridiculously expensive, up to 220 euros for the best seats. WHAT THE FUCK ?!?
It's quite full tonight but not sold-out with people in their forties and fifties. Hard to afford a gig at such silly prices when you're a student.
Anyway... the opening band is Shana Morrison, I guess it's his daughter or his wife, nice voice but the music she's playing is an easy-listening-country-folk of no interest at all.

Then we have Van The Man standing in the middle of the stage among his musicians -guitar, bass, keys, several brass players & drums- with his trademark black hat & sunglasses.
He has two beautiful guitars just next to him that will be useless as he won't even have a look at them for the whole set.
He's singing , of course, perfectly playing a bit of saxophone from time to time, a bit of harp too, a couple of songs are played on the piano.
The sound is not too loud and as perfect as his voice or the musicianship of his band, fantastic bass sound, warm as I like it.
Lots of very relax and cool songs maybe a bit too many for my taste with some great covers "Fever" "Baby please don't go".
Unfortunately only one song from "Moondance" my favorite record, the title track.
Lots of classics. setlist included: "Moondance", "Brown eyed girl", "baby please don't go, "fever", "Gloria", "whenever god shines", "enlightenment", "here comes the night"...
great set too bad there wasn't any encore at the end.

Fanfarlo @ River's King boat for Pepe Jeans, Paris Sept 13 2012

Fanfarlo @ River's King boat for Pepe Jeans, Paris Sept 13 2012

Fanfarlo played a showcase on the River's King boat for the Singular Music Festival presented by Pepe Jeans.
Strangely enough there are not a lot of people maybe just a 100. Luckily lots of our friends have tickets so we almost have the band for us as half of the audience preferred to stay on the upper deck and enjoy the view instead of watching the gig in the basement.
No free drinks or food and it's a pay bar.
Hard to believe Pepe jeans pay for the boat , the band and only have a handful of guests.
I guess they should reconsider their marketing department anyway...
Fanfarlo, that we already saw a few times @ Trabendo and some other places performed a great gig in front of a small audience despite the noise coming from the engines of the boat.
It's the first time I'm attending a gig on a boat that's sailing -on the river Seine from Bercy to the Eiffel Tower and back-.
The last time I took a boat like this in Paris, I was a kid.
We had a great evening even though things should have been handle differently.

Two Door Cinema Club + The Aerial @ Studio SFR, Paris Sept 12 2012

Two Door Cinema Club + The Aerial @ Studio SFR, Paris Sept 12 2012

The Aerial

First on stage in this tiny space near La Madeleine is The Aerial, we already saw them opening for Paul Personne for a free show @ the 3rd district Town Hall this July.
Up-tempo electro-pop-rock that all the kids like, not really our stuff but they were OK.
Then we have trendy band Two Door Cinema club.
The first time we heard of them was when they opened for Phoenix @ Olympia on March 22 2010, we were not there but they did a showcase the afternoon at the Fnac Montparnasse store and played a 4-song acoustic set.
They came back later that year for a sold-out show @ La Cigale and @ the Rock en Seine festival on August 28 2010 in front of a huge audience on the second stage.

It's one of those bands that are playing the same kind of music as The falls or Vampire Weekend, lots of up-tempo songs with a disco beat and some African influences, well... it's less obvious than for Vampire Weekend for the African influences.
They have a couple of very catchy tunes but everything seems to sound a bit the same in the end.
Nevertheless they did a powerful & enjoyable show.
