Pony Pony Run Run @ Hotel de Matignon, Paris June 21 2012

Pony Pony Run Run

Just after attending a show by Mina Tindle & Saint Vincent @ Colette store on the right bank, it's time to cross the Seine for the left bank to the residence of the French Prime Minister @ Hotel de Matignon.
French Electro pop band Pony Pony Run Run is playing in the front courtyard, it's packed out there and you have to go through metal detectors and Gendarmerie to get in.
It's a posh audience with mainly neighbors and people working here.
The courtyard is packed.
We're just in time to see the band getting on the stage, it's electro -pop with lively songs , it's ok but not really our drug of choice.

-Gendarmerie nationale : "Vos papiers svp"- & our French Prime Minister (and wife)

Our new French Prime Minister Jean Marc Ayrault is trying to act as if he is the coolest mother fucker in France by joining the audience while the band is playing and crossing the courtyard from one side to the other followed by dozens of photographers, reporters and cameras.
He stayed for the end of the set just next to us with his posse (of security guards) posing for photographers and acting as cool as fuck. He's da man !!!

Just been told Rockerparis & guests could be seen on iTV with MC JM Eyrault in the news.

The Posh audience is getting wild but our Prime Minister is keeping his "cool attitude"

Mina Tindle + Saint Michel @ Colette Music Box #16, Paris June 21 2012

Mina Tindle

First part of the -Fête de la Musique- @ Colette store with Folk singer Mina Tindle for a short solo set of her folk-rock songs, from the brand new album. Cool ! Electro-Acoustic guitar with some loops.
Strangely there are not too many people but the Rockerparis gang is out in force for this gig.
After some pizzas and drinks we have Saint Michel from Versailles, for a VERY short set of a few -two minutes songs- 20 min max. they sounded a bit like Kings of Convenience.

Always a lively atmosphere @ Colette with lots of sexy chicks with free drinks and food, they know how to welcome costumers.

Nice starter for the evening before going to the Prime Minister's residence @ Hotel de Matignon to see French band Pony Pony Run Run.

Great American Show with Girls, roller Coaster...and great lightning !
Setlist is fantastic, I would have add a couple of songs from "Generation Swine" which is a very under-rated record.

Can you believe it ? This is the first time ever that we're seeing the Crüe Live.
Each time they've played in Paris or I couldn't go, or I wasn't in Paris or they've cancelled.
Nice stage with the Roller Coaster in the back, lots of projections on the screen that's within the tracks of it and a great and bright lightning.
Down the front the sound is OK but in the stalls it's so loud that it is almost unbearable.
Nikki on the left not moving too much, Vince Neil jumping and dancing like a frog with the voice of a duck on helium, Mick Mars despite his disease is playing his parts but he's never been a great guitar player, Respect as he can barely walk and looks very frail.
The band has two girls for the backing vocals and some dancing but they were useless, at least for the vocals as the backing vocals were all on pre-recorded tapes.
The setlist is a best of... with a couple of "new" songs (see complete setlist for details).
The highlight of the show is of course the "Drum solo" which is not really one, it's more Tommy Lee playing simple rhythms on an electro soundtrack with Jean-Claude guesting in the back seat for a tour upside down.
Nikki noticed two girls down the front and had them on the stage for some dancing and a fail attempt to translate something he wanted to tell the audience.
They only played 90 min without any encore which was a bit of a letdown.
Overall (very) Good show. But why was it so loud ?!?

Nikki Sixx is taking it Cooool !
Vince Neil is singing like a duck on Helium
Mick Mars... well it's Mick Mars, the poor guy is sick but still can manage.
Tommy Lee on top

Paul Weller @ Bataclan, Paris June 13 2012

Paul Weller @ Bataclan, Paris June 13 2012

Paul Weller the "Modfather" is promoting his latest album "Sonik Kicks".
When we're getting into the Bataclan at past 7:30pm, there is literally nobody, no more than 50 people.
No support band and when the 5 piece band (plus Paul) is getting on the stage 30 min later it's quite full but not sold-out.
Paul Weller is far from being as popular in France as he is in England.
We saw many years ago at the Royal Albert hall where he played in front of a full house and apart from a couple of his well known songs we were not conquered.

Paul Weller is a mod so he's dressed smartly with a very posh suit and tie, as least for the first part.
He's playing a mix of pop-rock soul with a bit of psyche on the recent songs and even Dub on one.
Most of the time he's on electric guitar, sometimes on acoustic and on piano for a few songs.
After playing a 45 min set, there is a 10 intermission before a short 6 songs acoustic set (see setlist below for details) that was really nice, we were a bit late as we watched Germany-Holland at the bar next door.
Then back to electric for the last hour.

There are no track that is standing out and we didn't really get into it.
Paul Weller played an extra song that wasn't on the setlist (video below)
Overall good show.
