Garbage
@ L'Album de la Semaine, Paris May 15 2012

Garbage just played their first show in Paris in 7 years and we were lucky to attend this event for L'Album de la Semaine, Canal+ TV show in front of a selected audience of less than 200 people.
They've already played this tv show in 2005 and Rockerparis was alreday there to attend.
Same line-up with Eric Avery on bass from the original Jane's Addiction.

Strangely enough there are no monitors on stage and we can hear bits of pre-recorded tapes before they took the stage.
They're starting the gig with a new song, it's an up-tempo song but it sounds like Katty Perry, there are too many electro on it specially on drums and at one moment lots of auto-tune on the voice. It's not looking good.
They may be only 5 on stage but they do sound like there are 10 people on stage , courtesy of many effects and pre-recorded tapes.
Out of the 11 songs on tonight's setlist only 4 new songs, they do sound better Live than on the album but you can hear the difference between the new ones and the quality of the old stuff.
Garbage have some great songs and we're glad that they're playing many old ones but I have to say I was expecting more new ones tonight as it's a promotional tv show.
Nevertheless the old stuff brings back fond memories and the band is rocking, too bad we don't have tickets for tomorrow's gig @ Olympia (sold-out).
They had to re-play the first two songs as Shirley had some lipstick on her teeth, she messed up the lyrics on "Queer" so we had a third one.
Very good performance.

Before the band left the premises they stayed and signed stuff for fans and took pics with them, Patrice took a few snapshots with his digital camera.

Gossip is back in Paris to promote brand new album, they were @ Grand Rex for a private party for Canal+ tv show L'Album de la Semaine at the beginning of the month, where they previewed the new album that is very disco.
Well, I dont know... was it because we were tired, or because it is our first show just after METALLICA @ Stade de France or because the lightning was shite... really don't know !
Boring... this band doesn't talk to me anymore, this band has turn into a gay-disco shit.
Apart from a couple of songs the rest was just boring, hard to believe they were playing punk-garage rock at the beginning.
Don't get me wrong Beth is still doing the show, her voice is powerful but she tends to be very annoying by talking and saying hello to all her friends in the audience all the time
setlist

Nevertheless there was a great atmosphere with everybody singing and dancing but I felt more like being at the gay Pride parade than a rock concert.
She ended the 90 min set with a short speech on tolerance at the balcony of La Cigale.
It looks like there's a competition between her, lady gaga & Madonna to please and get the attention of the gay/lesbian community, Lots of money to be made...

Donald "Duck" Dunn 1941-2012 RIP

Steve Cropper on his Facebook page:
"Today I lost my best friend, the World has lost the best guy and bass player to ever live. Duck Dunn died in his sleep Sunday morning May 13 in Tokyo Japan after finishing 2 shows at the Blue Note Night Club."

Metallica @ Stade de France (Part 2), Paris May 12 2012

Part 1 is HERE
Another great performance by 'Tallica.
Beginning of the show was terrific with "Hit the Lights" & "Master..."
The Black Album is far from being my favorite but it was interesting to hear some of these songs for the first time including brand new song "Hell & Back".
Attending the show from the Snake pit is fantastic, there's enough room to move and have a different perspective from song to song.

We were so close to the stage that I can't remember watching anything on the screens for the whole set,
We had a very good sound too and from time to time when we were just next to the catwalk we could hear the band's own stage monitors as if we were ON the stage.

Needless to tell you that METALLICA ROCKED the Stade de France !

METALLICA
+ The Kills & Gojira (Part 1) @ Stade de France
Paris May 12 2012
Stade de France

It's the biggest show ever for METALLICA in France, it was sold-out in just 2 days: incredible !!!
First on stage is Gojira : complete crap, the kind of basic heavy Metal band that we hate.
Then we have The Kills, Really wonder what the fuck they are doing here ?!?
The Kills

They've done a killer set with their most heavier and dirtier songs, the last two of three times we saw them we were a bit disappointed , not tonight.
Of course, Metallica fans gave them a hard time but they didn't seem to bother even though Alison told the audience to fuck off in the end.
I guess James Hetfield picked 'em up as , I've been told, he was @ Olympia the last time they've played there.
Alisson Mosshart is getting hairy

Setlist : No Wow/Future Starts Slow/The Heart Is A Beatting Drum/Kissy Kissy/Pull A U/ Black Balloon/Pots and Pans/Fuck The People

A big "Fuck You" to the Stade de France (far right)

Alison on her facebook page:
"Thank you to Metallica for having us open for them at Stade de France. It was a wild and character building experience. Not every day does one get to stand at the foot of 75,000 people and sing... FUCK THE PEOPLE... It was invigorating... like electrocution is invigorating... an experience I will not soon forget. And for those fans in the front 50 rows who gave us the finger the whole set, no hard feelings kids, i'm still laughing. i'm in love with music and all the energies it may inspire. The more madness, the better. There ain't no joy in an easy ride. Bisous, AM"

Great opening with "Hit the Lights"

Part 2 of the show is HERE
with setlist & video

We were in the Snake pit with 300 other Metallica fans
Conditions were perfect, we had enough room and the security was loose, meaning they did not care if you were taking Pics and everybody did.

Great lightshow and sound

The "Black Album" is far from being my favorite but it was nice hearing those songs again, can't remember the last time I've listened to the album.

A killer set by 'Tallica
Lien
74000 metal maniacs tonight according to the french promoter Salomon Hazot

There was a FANTASTIC METALLICA exhibition in the VIP area with hundreds of memorabilia including the poster of the first 'Tallica gig in Paris supporting Venom
It's HERE

"Hit the Lights"
