The Zénith is packed tonight for Deep Purple , don't know if it's sold-out, I guess it was as you couldn't find an empty seat in the stalls.
We get there too late to se the opening band.
Lots of new faces in the audience with lots of teenagers down the front so there's a lively atmosphere, don't know in the back.
The lightshow , as usual is powerfull and stunning (perfect to take great Pictures).

Don't know why Deep Purple is touring as they don't have any new album to promote, I have to say that they have never been so popular especially in France where they are playing many shows : Rennes, Paris and in December : Strasbourg( Dec 1), Dijon , Troyes, Rouen, Lorient , Toulon, Pau, Limoges, Tours & Lille ( Dec 13).Each time in front of a packed audience.

Ths show is starting with "Highway Star" like in the good old days then we have a rare version of " Hard lovin' Man", this song was the show opener on this tour but not in Paris (?!).
The band is having fun , the sound's great, from where we are.
Ian Gillan's voice is better and better.
As you can see on the setlist below, they're playing all the hits at the beginning of the show then in the middle section we have more recent tunes and then more hits.
The band seems to be on auto-pilot but a high class auto-pilot as it is once again a great show.
Well I've never attended a bad or average show by Deep Purple for the last 15 years in fact Steve Morse gave them a kick in the ass, even though their last records were far from being their bests.

The Bewitched Hands @ L'Album de la Semaine
Paris Nov 09 2010 8:00 PM

Back into the Canal+ studio of the Plaine St Denis near Paris to see another french band, this time they rock. Seeing two French bands in two days I've probably never done that in my entire life.
They played the Festival des Inrocks @ Zénith opening for LCD Soundsystem in front of an almost empty Zénith ( less than 2000 people ) yesterday.
I've heard good things about this band and yeah they were right , very cool rock band between The Pixies, Brian Johnstown Massacre or Grandaddy.
Great sound with 2 guitars + Keys or with 3 guitars plus a girl on backing vocals for some high harmonies.
Cool set and they're singing in English, good point.

Agnes Obel @ Fnac Montparnasse
Paris, Nov 09 2010 5:30 PM
Agnes Orel ( not her real name) is from Danmark and she's living in Berlin.
She's looking very stern on the picture of her first album, typically German protestant not really the kind you want to have a laugh with... in fact she's really nice completely the opposite even thought you can hear by the way that she's playing the piano she had a classical training.
She performed a short set of 6 songs starting with an instrumental on the piano.
Voice of an angel.
Too bad that the girl playing the cello with her wasn't playing to add an extra flavor.
Very good set.

Madjo @ L'Album de la Semaine for Canal+ , Paris Nov 8 2010

Madjo @ L'Album de la Semaine, Canal+
Paris Nov 8 2010

French female singer Madjo is promoting her first album "Trapdoor". (click to listen to)
She will be playing The Maroquinerie club on Nov 16.
She's on acoustic guitar ( and electric for a couple of songs) with a beatboxer-percussionist, a girl on lead-backing vocals and a guy on bass and lead-backing vocals & handclappings.
Soulfull voice, singing mostly in English (we like it ) and a couple of songs in French ( we don't like it) Music between folk ballads & blues-soul, a kind of soft Moriarty.
Interesting but the songs should be more up-tempo, a bit too slow for me
They ended the set with a nice rendition of LeadBelly's " Where did you sleep last night" (also covered and popularized by Nirvana ) which sums up perfectly the kind of music they're playing.
