Peter Doherty @ Maroquinerie, Paris May 9th 2010

UPDATED MAY 11th WITH LINKS TO VIDEOS

Peter Doherty
+ Alan Wass + Anto Dust
@ Maroquinerie, Paris May 9th 2010

SOLD-OUT

Peter Doherty is still in Paris, he played @ Truskel on wednesday (click for review), this time he's back @ Maroquinerie where he played on Nov 28th 2008 (click for review, setlist Pics).
The gig was sold-out almost instantly so we're glad to be here with 400 people.
The security is strict at the entrance, you cannot even access the restaurant without a ticket, usually you can and cameras are not allowed, well, only small ones.
Rockerparis is providing Pics and videos, so don't worry baby !

aNTO dUST

There is a french band opening we didn't see them and we arrived as Anto Dust is playing, unfortunatelly we only catch the last 4-5 songs of her set.
We like her @ Rockerparis, she played 3 shows in the French capital last month @ Be There, Pop'In & Truskel ( click for...).
She had a nice reception from the crowd and she deserved it.

Peter introducing...Alan & Some girls

After a short break, Peter and Alan Wass went to the center of the stage , we thought that they were about to play NO, Peter was only there to introduce his friend Alan.
They have both played together @ Truskel on March 24th in Paris ( click for review).
Alan played a short set on acoustic guitar, cool music with 60's influences.
Bob Dylan meeting The Rolling Stones "Exile " era.
Cool set.
Alan Wass

Bob Dylan is in da house

Loud cheers are welcoming Peter on stage (9:30PM).
He loves Paris and plays here very often.
This is the 6th time we're seeing him in 2010.

Peeeeeeeeeete ! NO

Like all the gigs we've been to recently , he's very relax and cool.
There used to be a fury all around him a few years ago it has calm down.
The audience is listening to the songs religiously and no one is talking over the music.
It's a real gig and not a circus like it was in the "old days" , the atmosphere for this one is really different from last time in this very same place.

Not much talking between songs from Peter songs are played one after another, but we're used to it now.
He red a few lines from a book that was thrown on the stage, he did the same with a couple of papers that were thrown by a couple of girls.
As you can see on the Pics the WHOLE first row is squatted by girls.

Peter reading

I can't really say that it was "better" than the other shows I've been to this year but the atmosphere was so relax and laid back that it is probably my favorite.
Even though it seems that he really doesn't put as much effort as before , he's more on auto pilot.
No new songs tonight

[In fact he probably played one:

The show was recorded by Katia de Vitas who ( with Christian Fevret) are making a documentary on Peter (click for trailer). They are still recording lots of material and the documentary is far from being completed.
The trailer was cut & uploaded on Youtube just because Peter asked them to.

Too bad he only played for 75 min, with NO encore.

a dedicated audience

A couple of songs from the show:

We've also been told that Peter played an unplanned acoustic gig ( playing covers) at Bergerac bar in the afternoon for customers and passers by.
He'll be back in London tomorrow.

Check these websites for an extra dose of Pete :

Dont' forget than Adam Ficek (Roses Kings & Castles , Ex-Babyshambles) is playing Espace B in Paris on May 19th, it's only 5 Euros.

Christina Antipa + Flowers from the man who shot your cousin @ Oliver Peel session#23, Paris May 8th 2010

Christina Antipa +
Flowers from the man who shot your cousin
@ Oliver Peel session #23
Flowers from ....

Back @ Oliver's for his famous sessions.
It's sold-out , there's probably as much people than when Troy von Balthazar played a session here a few months ago.
Americans came once again in force.
First to play is American ,currently leaving in Paris: Flowers ftmwsyc with the help from Erwan on bass guitar who's in charge of Waterhouse records.
Laid back acoustic songs
...The man who shot your cousin

After a short break and more beer/wine/sandwiches/pies & everything we could put our hands on including beautiful girls.
Oliver Peel sessions better than Meetic ? Yes indeed !
We get Christina Antipa on electric guitar for some laid back (again?) electro-acoustic songs that reminded me of the early Cat Power.
Even had a "freebird" cover from Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Christina Antipa
the beautiful people

A joyful audience

Can you spot Oliver Peel & Carla Bruni's little sister on the Pic ?

Yeah baby !

Paul Di Anno @ Forum Vauréal, May 7th 2010

Paul Di Anno + Waltari @ Forum de Vauréal
May 7th 2010
Paul Di Anno former singer with Iron Maiden is playing Vauréal , a new city 35 kilometers from Paris.
I've been told that he played last week in a very small city 20 km outside of Paris in a fuckin' restaurant, he couldn't believe how he landed there.
It's funny there's nothing at all around, the city center looks like being in the "Truman Show" or Disney-land , all the buildings are brand new and looking fake situated in the middle of nowhere.
A bit like Milton Keynes in better or Portmerion.( for all you ignorant bastards reading this, this the "Village "from "The Prisoner").

Le Forum is a small club ( capacity around 300), Steve Lukather from Toto played there last month.
Gates opened really late @ 8:30 PM, then we had to endure support band Waltari for a good hour, and Paul Di Anno didn't play before 10:30 PM.

Good light show and really heavy sound Paul is in fine spirit even though he can barely walk without help as he has problem to one of his leg, he's having surgery in Brasil to fix it at the end of the tour in Brazil where he lives.
Hard to recognize him if you still have in your mind the way he was looking when he was singing in Iron Maiden. He's bald without tattoos all over his body, he's looking like a perfect English hooligan at a football match.

Cheers and thumbs up !

He still has a decent voice, lots of very heavy versions of Iron maiden songs from the first two albums he recorded with them (the best ones) + songs from his solo career.(see setlist for details)
We also had a fast & furious Ramones' cover " Blitzkrieg Pop" lasting no more than a minute.
"I'm coming from Punk, you know !"
One thing is for sure he hates his ex-wife and London.

Nice girl in nice outfit
He was playing with a very good all french band
Heavy 90 min set, all the best to Paul for his leg surgery.

Eli "Paperboy" Reed @ Virgin Champs Elysées, Paris May 6th 2010 6:00PM

Eli "Paperboy" Reed @ Virgin Megastore Champs Elysées
Paris May 6th 2010 6:00PM

American Soul rocker Eli "Paperboy" Reed is making a stop in Paris , in the middle of his European Tour , to play a showcase at the Virgin Megastore on the Champs Elysées.
i already saw him a few months ago at famous Canal+ tv "L' Album de la Semaine".
This time that's just him and a guitar player for a short 8 songs set ( one song was left out).
Not a lot of people turned up for this young artist, no more than 50,even though the store was busy.
Cool set but it's much more better with a full band.
Hard to play soul music with just 2 guitars, you need more instruments but we had a good time.
He then met his fans to sign a few cds and take Pics.

Eli & setlist signed

After that we went to the Max Linder movie théatre to attend the Premiere of Performance a movie with Mick Jagger which is finally released on dvd.
We had lots of shit before the movie : a funny Beastie Boys copycat band then a few performers who were allright but their place was at a party for the trendy & arty Palais de Tokyo and NOT here. Then a short movie which once again had nothing to do here before that movie with Mick Jagger & Anita Pallenberg.

Peter Doherty @ Truskel , Paris May 5th 2010

Another Peter Doherty secret gig @ Truskel bar in Paris.
May 5th 2010

3rd show for Peter Doherty @ Truskel in less than a month, he's probably staying in Paris for a while as a friend of mine saw him in the french capital last week in a cab.

The tiny Truskel bar is over-packed once again, first rows are lucky this is not as ugly as it was last month for the second secret show @ truskel. This time they can breath which wasn't the case last time but it's hot & sweaty anyway. No AC in here ?

Broadcasted live on the internet ?

Pete arrives at 00:15 Am and gets into the VIP area, where we are, to tune his guitar.
Another show , another late start: around 00:25 AM
Lots of sexy girls in the audience and lots of foreigners too.
The gig is going very smoothly and for the whole set, no technical problems this time, Pete is very relax and focus.
Is it because there's a laptop recording the whole set ? maybe it is broacasted live on the internet.
I really wonder if half of the audience is here to listen to the songs or be part of it to tell their friends they were there.
Not too much pushing from people down the front this time apart from one moment when the first row ended on the stage.
Can't really tell you about the setlist as I didn't write it down but he played some more relax songs for the first part before getting into the more wellknown and faster stuff.
I'll try to get the correct setlist tomorrow.so stay tuned to ROCKERPARIS.

Here's part of the setlist that I could get HERE (there are songs missing):
-This setlist TBC- Not in order
??? "several songs" ???
Bollywood To Battersea
Tell The King
The Good old days

I love you but youre green
Don't look back into the sun

Salomé

Like Keith Richards Peter can be asleep at his own gig.

He doesn't talk too much between songs but we're used to this for the last 4 or 5 shows he did in Paris all of them this year 2010.
As you can see on the Pics he's carefull about the tuning
It's 1:35 AM and it's time to go home for Peter.
65 min+ show.
Very good show and less chaotic than the previous ones at Truskel.

"i'm on TV"

Peter stayed a bit in the VIP area with his friends for a while after the set and took a few Pics with fans who sneak in there.

He's playing the Maroquinerie on sunday See Ya There, lads

Sorry no videos as the lightning wasn't bright enough
