Lou Reed @ Thé des Ecrivains, Paris Nov 13 2012
Avery rare Picture: Lou Reed Signing LULU's box set

After the reading @ Palais de Tokyo yesterday night Lou Reed is still in Paris promoting his new photo-book, this time at Thé des Ecrivains, very nice place in the trendy Marais, you can buy books and other stuff but you can also have a coffee or a glas of wine.
No reading tonight , just a short introduction and then Lou is signing his book to a well behaved crowd of fans. Some people also bring some vinyls and he signed probably for the first time ever a box set of the record he did with METALLICA : Lulu as nobody bought that crap but...me !!!

Lou Reed Conférence @ Palais de Tokyo, Paris Nov 12 2012

Lou Reed @ Palais de Tokyo in Paris 7:00pm

"SHUT UP"

To present his new book Rhymes/Rimes

Very late opening as Lou Reed worked on the Exhibition, starting in the morning then he had some interviews so he needed a rest. It was supposed to start at 7:00pm in fact Lou Reed showed up at 8:30pm.
They contacted the Palais de Tokyo just 3 weeks ago for this exhibition, it really shows that they have a huge space and really don't know what to do with it. We've been a few times at recent exhibitions at the Palais de Tokyo and we have to say that we haven't seen so many crap exhibitions in such a short amount of time excluding Lou Reed's pictures, most of them are pretty good even though the man doesn't want to "legend" any of them.

It started with a "lecture" of RAVEN but first Mr Grumpy asked people in the back to "SHUT UP".
It lasted for 20 min.
Then there was a Q&A for another 20 min: There are pictures dating back from the late 60's, no photoshop, he has several cameras, all the pictures in the book are in a certain order... ans so on.
and Lou signed his new book "Rhymes/Rimes.
The Palais de Tokyo knows how to spend our money so we had a nice reception afterwards with champagne and canapés/macarons.
Cool evening !

Joe Jackson @ Olympia, Paris Nov 11 2012

Joe Jackson @ Olympia, Paris Nov 11 2012

Joe Jackson @ The Olympia, it's an early start as usual on sunday (7:00 pm) so we're very late and we've missed the first hour, Fuck !
it's packed and there are a few cameras recording the whole show, in fact it's broadcasted live on the internet on Germano-French tv arte live.
It's funny how he looks, we already noticed that on the advertising posters out in the streets but he probably had too much plastic surgery on his face and when he's smiling he's looking like The Joker without make up.
Joe Jackson is seating behind a keyboard on the left of the stage with a 6-7 piece band, he's promoting his new album of Duke Ellington songs but most of the songs we've heard had a Brasilian feel and beat with some percussions. Not really familiar with the latest songs he's done on his latest records but glad that he played some of his major songs like "Sunday papers", Is she really going out with him" or "stepping out".
He's still a bit of a rebel when people started shouted out songs, he said that he's not doing any requests and when someone said "The Marseillaise" he fingered him... ( as a joke I guess).

Good show but I guess I would have prefered more of his old rock'n roll songs.

Walking Papers @ Nouveau Casino, Paris Nov 10 2012

Walking Papers @ Nouveau Casino, Paris Nov 10 2012

Cool 75 min set of classic rock with Duff McKagan on bass , Barrett Martin on Drums, Jeff Angel on guitar & Benjamin Anderson on keys.
Duff 's new project WALKING PAPERS is in Paris, not a lot of people tonight, it's too bad, I've heard many good reviews about the album, nothing to do with Loaded. This band is more classic-rock blues orientated.
Cool to see Barrett Martin on drums as we're great fans of Screaming Trees and Mad Season.
We were standing in front of Duff and his bass sound was heavy and greasy as we like it.
They've performed only Walking Papers songs even though some people asked for some Guns songs, Duff felt a bit embarrassed by this.
After the show the whole band went to sign cds and vinyls in the pit specially Duff.
The band left to England, they are playing in London on sunday, they will be back next summer for festivals and some more club shows.

To thank fans for standing outside in the rain and cold for the last 3 weeks listening to the rehearsals from outside and before the band is leaving for NYC , The Rolling Stones have let in 40 lucky fans and some members of the studio staff who are seeing the Stones rehearsing for the first time as only the RS team was allowed into the room.
After leaving jackets and bags and , of course, cell phones & cameras into the lobby we were escorted to a small balcony facing the tiny stage where the stones have been rehearsing since Oct 1st.
Chuck on the far left behind his keyboards with Bernard in front of him, Ronnie on the left, Charlie dead center stoical behind his drum kit, Keith on the right and Darryl on the far right. And Mick all over the place.
We can see that there are paintings stuck on the wall underneath us with the setlist written on it in big letters for each day they have rehearsed. I'de like to get a pic of that as we only have the setlist from Oct 11 onwards (courtesy of us)
They welcomed us with a few kind words and hand-signs
Even though the guys are working, you can see that they're "playing" their part: Ronnie's fooling around a bit, Keith with his trademark "kick" for the first song "Live with Me". Small gig just for us.
After that you can see they are back working properly as if we were not there watching every of their moves.
"One more shot" is started several times with indications from Chuck Leavell  who is coordinating the work on the songs, especially some of the transitions (OMS or Thats How Strong My Love Is")  He is guiding the Stones through it, he's the musical director and Mick Jagger the conductor.

It's really Incredible to attend such an event, we can see the Rolling Stones at work.
And when Keith is missing a start, he looks at us with a grin meaning " yeah I fucked it up, sorry That's my fault" with everyone cheering but not too loud as we've been instructed not to act like fools as the band is working.
Some people around me have tears in their eyes and can't believe their luck.
This is the FIRST TIME in the Rolling Stones history that they are letting fans in for a rehearsal.

For the next song the roadies 'standing to attention' are changing the guitars and Ronnie is having is Weissenborn ready and Mick is on acoustic guitar. Michel standing on my left and who is the French RS specialist is telling me " They're going to play No Expectations". Hes' right.

For the next song Mick is behind the keys with his iMac in front of him for "Worried about you", Nice falsetto. One take.

MIck is back on the mike in front of the stage for "That's how strong my love is", once again we can see The Stones at work as they are trying different endings with Chuck and Mick's indications.
All along these rehearsals in france Mick's voice has been loud and clear: incredible.
He's done it almost everyday (except week-ends) for the last 4 weeks, 4 hours every day.

We've been there for more than 45 min and mick's assistant is asking him if we have to go, "One more song" he said and we have a blues one " Little red rooster" One take.

The whole band is thanking us several times once again for being there.
we're making our way out in the cold night but we have stars in our eyes forever

50 min of  private rehearsals with The Rolling Stones, once in a lifetime.

Incredible to see the Stones rehearsing the songs with the "false" starts ("One more shot"), the different endings possible ("That's our strong...") the indications, the work, the different guitars, the roadies 'standing to attention'... just incredible
Nice cosy studio with carpets , sofas, catering, dozens of guitars
And a very nice team: security, roadies...

A big thank you to The Rolling Stones to have welcomed us for this 50min  session
