June 22: updated with links to more videos

Judas Priest
& Loaded @ Zénith
Paris June 20 2011
LOADED

Times are difficult, is it the crisis or what ?
I guess that metal kids (well they're not kids anymore) don't want to spend more than 50 or 60 euros for the Mighty Priest as the it's a small Zénith tonight (3000 capacity) and there are still empty seats in the back.

setlist & Aftershow meeting

Duff McKagan's Loaded is opening, we're glad to see Duff back in Paris as Velvet Revolver didn't play any shows in France on their last tour.
After 3-4 songs even tough Duff is trying his best to keep the audience entertain, I have to admit that this is getting boring to death.
Duff is also not a great singer. I remember him opening for The Scorpions in Bercy for "Believe in Me" and it was much better.
Loaded is just a boring band with no good songs, the end of the 50 min set is a bit better with The Misfits' cover of "attitude" & Guns N Roses' "It's so easy".

What to expect with Judas Priest WITHOUT KK Downing ?

Doing a Farewell without without one of its founding member is ridiculous, whatever happened between KK and the Band , he should have done this tour, at least for the fans...
Anyway he won't be missed as Richie Faulkner is absolutely FANTASTIC.
Not only he's a great guitar player but he's a guitar hero with the poses and all...

Rob Halford has a much better voice that the last time Judas played @ Zénith (click for review Pics setlist & video) two years ago in March 2009 with Megadeth (click for review ...)opening.

SETLIST :

As you can see above the setlist is terrific, it's hard not to be happy with it, there are songs from every era of the band, well except the one with Ripper Owens which I think is a lack of respect to him as he's part of the history of Judas Priest.
Judas Priest knows how to please it's fans : it's typical Heavy Metal, the one that we love : leather, metal, twin guitars, heavy sound, fire & pyro, great soli & screamings ...& the motorcycle on "hell bent for leather" !!!
When it comes to heavy Metal NO ONE can compete with The Mighty Priest

A hell of a show!!!

Dark dark dark @ Black Session, c'est Lenoir, paris June 20 2011

setlist

Dark Dark Dark @ C'est Lenoir - Black Session, Paris Monday May 20th 2010

The last Black Session of the season (and maybe ever... as Frederic Lenoir told us) is welcoming the American band Dark Dark Dark. Their music is often described as "chamber-folk" but we would rather call it "rock-musette".
The sound is perfect, not too loud, and we could really enjoy the show as we had very comfortable seats in the front raw (and lots of handsome men in the audience...)
One girl and five guys on stage. They're playing piano, drums, accordion, banjo, clarinet, bass and cello. They do not so much address the audience but there is a real feeling between them and that's also someting they share with us. Nona Marie Invie has a really beautiful warm voice and I like Marshall LaCount's attitude on stage.

Very good one hour set with sadly-entertaining-fucking-good songs (well... as far as I can tell with my lack of gig-experience)

We'd like to thank the adorable Miss Albion for the tix and the amazing Oliver Peel for this nice musical evening spent with him.

It's absolutely pathetic !!!
People are booing after the first song

!!! Shows in Istanbul (June 20 ) & Athens (June 22 ) are cancelled !!!

Modern English + Flying Turns + Mirrors @ Fleche d'or, Paris Saturday June 18 2011

Flying Turns + Modern English + Mirrors @ Fleche d'Or
Paris, June 18 2011

Flying Turns

First is French Cold New wave band Flying Turns , dark voice and a music reminding me of Depeche Mode with a bit of DEVO ( They did a cover of the latter).
Not our cup of tea but we have to admit they did a good set.

very electro / Post Punk/ New Wave night

Then we have Modern English, these guys were around in 1979 but never made it, they reformed recently with the original line-up, typycal English pop-rock with a Joy Division influence but not only. The guitar player (see pics) has tattoos all over his arms and...face.
Cool set. Check our video of their hit song "I melt with you" here.

Modern English

Here's the setlist (Thanks to Stéphane D):
1. someone's calling
2. after the snow
3. tables turning
4. swans on glass
5. black houses
6. soundtrack
7. life in a gladhouse
8. move in light
9. I melt with you

Last on stage is Mirrors, we already saw them opening for OMD @ Casino de Paris, this is 100% electro music, the kind of... we hate, but it was entertaining, The singer's funny on stage.
Mirrors

all the bands played short set, no more than 50 min each.
Overall enjoyable evening

Divine Comedy's Neil Hannon @ Théatre de la Ville, Paris June 17 2011

Neil Hannon from Divine Comedy "Piano solo" @ Théatre de la ville
Paris, June 17 2011
First time ever that Rockerparis was going to the Théatre de la Ville, it's just the Théatre opposite Le Théatre du chatelet where we saw Marianne Faithfull , with Wayne kramer on guitar, twice in March.
Sold-out show and upmarket audience.
From the outside it's as beautiful but from the inside that's completely different, it looks like a 70's concrete building (meaning it's awful) even though the concert hall in itself is not bad.
The inside of the théatre du chatelet is still with its original "Italian" style and is stunning.

Anyway we're not here to discuss decoration but to talk about Neil Hannon's solo performance on piano.
He already played like this last year @ the very posh Salle Pleyel on July 07 2010 (click for review with Pics & videos).
He's still promoting "Bang goes the knighthood" his latest album so Neil is playing this record in its entirety for the first part of the show, mostly on piano and a couple of songs on the acoustic guitar.

After a 15 min intermission he's back behind the keys to play a best of... from his catalogue.
The Setlist will be posted here shortlty and on his french website : A short site about The Divine comedy. Check the Forum too.
  1. Down In The Street Bellow
  2. The Complete Banker
  3. Neapolitan Girl
  4. Bang Goes The Knighthood
  5. At The Indie Disco
  6. Have You Ever Been In Love
  7. Assume The Perpendicular
  8. The Lost Art Of Conversation
  9. Island Life
  10. When A Man Cries
  11. Can You Stand Upon One Leg
  12. I Like
    entracte
  13. The Pop Singer’s For The Pollen Count
  14. Everybody Knows (Exception You)
  15. Songs Of Love
  16. A Lady Of A Certain Age
  17. Perfect Lovesong
  18. Geronimo
  19. Generation Sex
  20. Our Mutual Friend
  21. National Express
    encore
  22. The Booklovers (part of)
  23. The Frog Princess
  24. Tonight We Fly
    encore 2
  25. Sunrise

No need to tell you that it was great, when you have very good songs you don't need pyros , just an acoustic guitar or a piano and that's enough.
Neil has also a great sense of humour so he's always acting a bit funny or telling a joke on stage.
No big difference with last year's show but once again we had a very good time.

We were lucky to be invited to a small party with drinks and canapés afterward but Neil didn't turn up.
