Morcheeba + Melanie Pain @ Casino de Paris, April 05 2011

Morcheeba + Melanie Pain @ Casino de Paris
April 05 2011

Melanie Pain (above)

Morcheeba is back in Paris with Skye on vocals, they have a new album under their belt, the show is sold -out.

First we have french singer Melanie Pain who's been famous for being part of the project Nouvelle Vague.
She's singing both in English & french. She's not doing electro-pop anymore and her music is more retro-cabaret.
She's cute and has beautiful voice.
Very nice set.
Full House for Morcheeba

Can't remember the last time I saw them for a proper gig, I guess it was @ Rock en Seine in 2003.
They've done La Musicale for Canal+ (with Scissor Sisters & Aloe Blacc) in June 2010 but they only performed two songs. We didn't go to the Bataclan in Oct 2010 (click for the setlist).
As always it is a cool & groovy gig, Skye's voice is perfect with the music: soft & subtle.
Sound is perfect but the lightning is a bit shite (well for Patrice); hey man ! what about the atmosphere !!!
Lots of talking between songs to tell a few stories about the tour : she has the bar on the rooftop of a hotel in Brasil named after her.
They have a dj to ad a little flavour to the music as if it needed it. It doesn't.
Great 100 min show, a pleasure to see them after all these years.

Horse Feathers @ Oliver Peel session, Paris April 4 2011

Horse Feathers @ Oliver Peel session #36
Paris April 4 2011
Horse Feathers

Another Oliver Peel session but this time on a monday night, nice way to start the week.
Horse Feathers from Idaho is playing, they've done a gig yesterday @ Café de la Danse (check review here).
Lots of Americans @ Oliver's and some familiar faces.
Only one band, remember it's only monday, don't know if the neighbours would agree with 40 people stomping, talking, shouting, drinking...so we can't party all night long.
Very cool set with this 4 piece country-folk band. Acoustic guitar, banjo, violin, cello and... saw so all the songs were very different from one another.
Some of the beautiful people

As always lots of beauties in the audience, some "quiche" courtesy of Michael and lots of booze to go with.
Wild party as we even had a couple trapped in the tiny elevator, we left before they were delivered, hope they didn't do any naughty things in there !!!

Beauty of the session (center)

Love in the elevator !!!

Calvin Russell 1948-2011 RIP

So sad to hear that Calvin Russell just died this week end at his home in Texas.

We were @ this recording for Arte TV on Dec 12 2007 with Poni Hoax, Stacey Kent & Craig Amstrong

Sunday afternoon @ Louvre & Vuitton store ...

Louvre : Messerschmidt exhibition
Messerschmidt faces (except far right)

Sunday afternoon the weather's shit, nothing better than visiting the Louvre museum and it's free (every first sunday of each month), it was packed at the entrance, once you're in it's half empty, I guess all these tourists in short were there for Mona Lisa, not us.
We went there for the Messerschmidt exhibition, lots of tortured faces, subtitles are laughable, they were made after the faces were dicovered. It's made of steel .A must see.
Of course that's the only part where you CAN'T take any pictures.
Then we had a walk around the museum in the sculpture department : Fantastic

happy faces...not : Death

Made of laces & bras @ Vuitton store

Then we went to the top floor of the Vuitton store at the corner of the Champs Elysées and GV Avenue for some (shitty) modern art. This top floor with art is only an excuse so that they can open on sunday. The only good thing was these things hanging out made of bras and laces.
First we had a drink at the nearby GV hotel for a hot chocolate then we went to the restaurant @ Café Constant and we had a table next to actors Matthew McConaughey , Ryan Philippe and Amanda Seyfried who were in Paris to do promo duties for their next movie (i've been told).
Great day away for Rock'n Roll !
