Herbie Hancock + Wayne Shorter + Marcus Miller @ Olympia, Paris July 18 2011 Tribute To Miles

Herbie Hancock + Wayne Shorter + Marcus Miller @ Olympia
Paris, July 18 2011 "Tribute to Miles"

"Tribute to Miles Davis " almost 20 years after his death (Sept 1991) by some of his most famous musicians.
This show was sold-out ages ago in spite of very expensive tickets: between 70 and 150 euros for the best seats.
Posh audience for this all instrumental gig, Herbie is on piano and Keys on the far left, Wayne Shorter on the left, Drummer Sean Rickman in the back, trumpeter Sean Jones on the right and Marcus Miller on the far right.
As you can guess the musicianship is extremely high.
Can't tell you about the setlist as I'm not the N°1 Miles Davis fan.
Can't tell you either that I love everything they did but overall very good gig.

Slash @ Zénith, Paris July 12 2011

Slash
@ Zénith, Paris July 12 2011
Sold -out show for Slash & Co, making it his biggest headling gig outside Guns N Roses in Paris.
Last time he played @ Bataclan (With Alice Cooper guesting on one song), with Velvet Rovolver he never made it to the Zénith as the gig was cancelled, they only played @ Bataclan (With Izzy guesting on a few songs). Even with The Snakepit he only played @ the Elysée Montmartre.
Of course he played last year opening for AC/DC @ Stade de France and @ Hellfest.

The pit is crammed and it's hot as hell so we're lucky we could secure Block Z tickets which is the best block, dead center.
Lots of youngsters, no stage for Slash , just a backdrop and one of the worst lightshow we've seen this year and no dry ice.
Most of the time Slash will play in the dark, why ?
Sound is loud and not too clear.
What about the show ?
Well, as a guitar player Slash is still on top, i'm not really fan of his solo album so live songs don't sound better, thankfully he played a few Guns N Roses songs (see setlist for details) and Velvet Revolver's"slither".
Myles Kennedy is doing a good job on vocals even if he tends to scream a bit too much.
Good choice for the Guns N Roses songs as he played some of my favourite " Civil War", "Rocket Queen", "Paradise City ( here on video) "Nightrain". Some of these songs were extended versions lasting more than 8 min. Here's "Patience" for ya & "We're all gonna die"
He played the song "Promise" for the first time on the tour and even Snakepit's "Sweet Parade" (?!?) which is far from being the best Snakepit song.
Great atmosphere in the audience with lots of GNR fans
Overall good show ( 120 min) as his solo songs are just above average.

A Horse... and a rider with no name

Guess who's the daylight rider ? LOL

After a difficult day at Sonisphere it's nice to have a break from the rock'n roll life in the country side.
Nothing can be more relaxing than riding a horse.

On July 12th Slash is playing the Zénith
On July 13th TV on The Radio @ Olympia (we're not going)
We'll have a few days off before Black Country Communion @ Bataclan on July 19th
Then Holidays until the end of August with The Rock en Seine Fest.
We're probably going to see Jerry Lee Lewis @ Béthune (free gig) on August 27th. Check before going just in case...

Metallica
@ "Big 4" Sonisphere France
Amnéville, July 09 2011
After a fantastic gig by Megadeth, Metallica is next on the main stage while we're waiting for the show to start we can hear Traja playing on the second stage, symphonic metal, sounds like bullshit to us.

The "golden pit" is more compact than for the other bands hard to secure a good spot down the front as everybody is here for Metallica.

"The ecstacy of Gold" is being played with 10 min late it's 11:10pm, that's the sign of the beginning of the gig, and the beginning of the gig couldn't be better as the first song is " Hit the Lights", then we have " Master of Puppets".
Sound is perfect, not too loud, down the front it's hell but if you're not right in the middle that's ok.

The stage is simple but class with a huge screen in the back (and on both sides as for the other bands ). I have to say that the crew in charge of the footage and mixing of these footage is probably the most pro and arty I have EVER seen at a rock concerts. These guys know how to record a rock concerts and how to mix it. Great Job.
The band is on top form maybe is it because they don't head-bang like maniacs anymore and also because they can secure some breaks every 4-5 songs with a short solo from Kirk or Rob or a intro to a song on which they can relax for a couple of minutes behind the stage without breaking the rythm of the show.

As you can see below the setlist is a "dream come true" for many fans , lots of old songs including "The Call of Ktulu", "Creeping Death" "For whom the bell tolls"or "fade to Black"... Thank god NO "Unforgiven " or "Nothing else matters".

We have a bit of pyro on "One" and another song.
The band is also on stage for quite a long time until 1:30 am

The REAL let down will be the jam at the end before the second encore as Megadeth & Slayer didn't bother coming on stage so we only had Anthrax and Diamond Head on "Helpless" WHAT THE FUCK ?????????????????

The only show on the European dates without the real jam and it's happening in France. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

SETLIST: 1) Hit the Lights 2) Master of Puppets 3) Shortest Straw 4) Seek & Destroy 5) Welcome Home (Sanitarium) 6) Ride the Lightning 7) The Memory Remains 8) All nightmare Long 9) Sad but true 10) The Call of Ktulu 11) One 12) For Whom the bell tolls 13) Blackened 14) Fade to Black 15) Enter sandman Encore 16) Helpless (With Anthrax & Diamond Head) 17) Damage Inc. 18) Creeping Death

Official Pics from The Festival from Metallica.com

Metallica is smokin'

see ya guys soon
Official video of "Call of Ktulu":

Check videos of "Meet & Greet" and rehearsals in "Tuning Room"

The shitty organisation is keeping the good work as it's taking us two hours to leave the premises, all in the dark and no cops for the trafic.
