Leslie West of Mountain @ New Morning, Paris Oct 08 2010

Leslie West @ New Morning
Paris Oct 08 2010
Hard to remember the last time that Leslie West was in Paris for a concert, I probably wasn't born.
The guy is a bit of a legend, leader of the band Mountain.
When we arrived at the New Morning for the soundcheck it was hard to believe that he's on his own on the electric guitar, no bass player ans no drummer.
What the fuck ?
Neil Young is doing it for his new album, so if Neil can do it, Leslie can do it either.
Unfortunately things didn't go as smoothly as we thought.
1)his guitar playing is good but could be better
2) It's a fucking karaoke as he's playing only covers apart from a couple of songs
It could have been so much better with 2 other guys on bass and drums.
Disappointing.
SETLIST (set 1, 30 min):
-People get ready
-Blowing in the wind
-Why don'tcha (request from the audience)

Montblanc launching party for the Limited edition John Lennon's pens

Montblanc launching Party for the
John Lennon's limited edition Pens
on the Champs Elysées.Paris

We were kindly invited by Montblanc @ the official party fo the launching of the John Lennon's limited edition pens.
Check the official website it's FANTASTIC, specially the animation HERE.
As you can guess it was a very posh event with prices from 300 Euros to 20000 euros for the White gold with saphir limited edition to 70 copies pen.
They only had one in the store , it was already sold and the store had to borrow it to the new owner without possibility to take it out of the special window display that was done for this party.
We had a very interesting chat with Gina Bruzzi, the woman who designed all the John Lennon' pens, and a few others for Montblanc.
A few canapés and a couple of drinks and we left with a nice goodie bag with the catalogue, a Tashen book on John Lennon that is given away when you're buying one of the pens and a single edition of "Imagine" with the Montblanc logo on the back ( collector) especially done for the occasion.

Montblanc John Lennon goodie bag

Cool !

Sean Lennon & Charlotte Kemp-Muhl @ Fleche d'Or, Paris Oct 6 2010.

Sean Lennon & Charlotte Kemp-Muhl
AKA The Ghost Of Saber Tooth Tiger
+ Zooey
@ Fleche d'Or, Paris Oct 6 2010
Back at the hot & sweaty Fleche d'Or to see Sean Lennon & friend.
Far from being sold-out and lots of younger fans which means that Sean doesn't attract Beatles fans or they are young Beatles fans.
First we have a french easy listening pop duet Zooey, good as a starter.
After a (very) long intermission we have Sean lennon & Charlotte Kemp-Muhl aka The Ghost Of a Saber Tooth Tiger.
Sean Lennon & Friend are getting on stage as late as Axl Rose as it's 10:45 and there's no one to complain.Go and figure it out.

They have a new record out soon so I thought they will only play new songs apart from a cover ( see setlist).
It's a very relax affair with Sean , on the right, on vocals, acoustic guitar & percussion and Charlotte , on the left, on vocals occasional bass, woodwind and other stuff.

It sometimes seems a bit unrehearsed, well maybe not unrehearsed... more like a gig in front of a few friends so the atmosphere is very relax.
Sean is fluent in French ( he has to translate in English to his girlfriend) and is introducing each song.
In fact half the songs have already been played last year when they both played the Point Ephémere ( click for review with Pics...) on Oct 3 2009.
Pop-Folk songs.

Once again we have Irina as a special guest for the encore of this very short set , only 9 songs in all !!!
What only 9 songs !
They could have played a few more specially after everybody waited for more than an hour after the support band.
Come on Sean i'm sure you can do more.
I can't imagine Axl Rose doing the same he would have been nailed to the ground by the press.

Here's one :

Big News:
Sean lennon will be on tour next year with -M- (aka Mathieu Chédid) with his full band.

Lilli Wood & the Prick @ Fnac Forum
Paris Oct 06 2010, 6:00PM

This band is becoming more & more popular over here with songs played on the radio...
We already saw them in March 2010 at a free show @ La Défense near Paris at noon ( yes noon !) and we thought they were pretty good.
This time it's another free show @ Fnac Store in Chatelet, they're not playing acoustic, the whole band is here and they're playing electric so we're getting the full monty for an 11 song-40 min+ set.

Cool set, it's very pop & radiio friendly with a bit of wild guitars from now and then.
Enjoyable.

N-E-R-D + Mark Ronson @ Zénith, Paris Oct 5th 2010

N-E-R-D + Mark Ronson + Boy George + some other shit
@ Zénith, Paris Oct 5 2010

Yesterday we went to see N-E-R-D @ L'Album de la Semaine and we were less than impress by their short set ( 7 songs) so we decided to see them in real LIVE conditions , in front of 5000 people @ Zénith.
This was a free show, well not completely free as you had to work 4 hours for charity to get a ticket for the show.
Which is a very good initiative. Different audience tonight as there are only teenage black & arabs from the suburbs ( our down-towns) with lots of very beautiful mixed-race girls.
We just arrived on time to see the last 3 songs of Mark Ronson with his special guest Boy George on vocals, needless to tell you that it was complete crap with or without Mr George.

Then we had some shitty DJ, then a surprise guest called Soprano for 3-4 songs, complete crap once again.Never heard that name before but the kids loved him
Then another surprise guest for a couple of songs, couldn't get his name but it was even more shitty than the previous one.
Some more DJ in order to get the stage ready for headliners N-E-R-D.
This time the singers ( all three of them) are all dressed in white, they've played some new songs and some others unfortunately they didn't play any from " Fly or Die" which is a great record and my favorite.
Once again very short set they were on for just 30 min playing 6-7 songs, it was more lively than yesterday thanks to a dedicated audience but once again I was a bit disappointed.
It was one of these nights when you wish you had stay at home.
