Crosby Stills & Nash @ Olympia July 12 2010 First show Part 1

Crosby Stills & Nash @ Olympia, Paris July 12 2010
1 st show

Part 1 ( Electric Set)

Part 2 ( Acoustic Set) click

We saw then just one year ago in July and the gig was one of the highlight of the year 2009 and believe me we, at ROCKERPARIS are going to more than 200 gigs a year.
Hard to believe how many great songs they have and the guys can play.
CS&N

Will it be the same in 2010 ?
They started nicely with " Woodstock" , "Military Madness" all electric.
In fact they started with the electric set ( last year it was the acoustic)

SN & C ( in that order on stage)
They're taking no risks as the setlist is a best of... CSN, Buffalo, Stills-Young...
The sound is perfect so are the harmony vocals & Stephen's guitar playing.
Even better than last year
Each one of them is singing lead on his song

The first set ended on a great rendition of " Wooden Ships".
Perfect hour set.
Then it's time for a 20 min break.

Setlist

Probably our last gigs for the summer, We'll be back at the end of August with the Rock En Seine festival in St Cloud even though the bill is not fantastic.
Don't forget HOLE @ Bataclan.

Crosby Stills & Nash @ Olympia july 12 2010 First show Part 2

Crosby Stills & Nash @ Olympia, Paris July 12 2010
1st Show

Part 2 ( Acoustic set)

After a twenty minutes intermission, Crosby Stills & Nash are back on their own , without the full band.
After "Helplessly Hoping" they started playing a few covers from their next record ( they already played them last year).
What' s the point of doing covers ?, it's hard to do better than the originals (" Norwegian wood", "Midnight rider", "girl from the north country"," Ruby tuesday" ) but the version of " Behind blue eyes" ( back to electric) from The Who was great with fantastic solo by Stephen.
Graham went on the piano for " Winchester Cathedral " & " our House".
"Rock'n Roll woman" from Buffalo Springfield sung by Stephen was probably the best song of the night with extended soli.
"Almost cut my hair" had an ovation like every time I saw CSN.

They left for the first time and played "Love the one you're with".
Then last song of the night " Teach your children".

One of our favorite gig for this year, maybe they should have played the Acoustic set at the beginning of the show like they did last year.
Some of the covers didn't match the originals but i have to say than these old geezers can kill any of those young bands.
So many people are telling me that CSN was to be seen in the 70's and NOT now.
Fucking wrong they are still kicking ass.

Each one of them still have the voice he had 30 years ago, Stephen's guitar playing is much more better than a few years ago.

Still funny to hear the audience talking after the show and they ALL agree.
FUCKING GREAT !!!

Al Green @ Olympia, Paris July 9 2010

Al Green @ Olympia
Paris July 09 2010

Exactly 3 years ago , to the very same day ( July 9 ) Al Green was performing @ The Beautiful Grand Rex theatre in Paris.

Patrice Guino , our photographer wasn't on the guest list, poor bastard : He was Furious.
He knows a lot of people so he could get in easily Thanks for the Pics mate !

3 years later we're welcoming Al Green at the Olympia , it's packed and the tickets are once again VERY expensive : up to 120 Euros for the best seats.
Considering that he's only singing for no more than 60 minutes, it's costing you 2 euros for each minute, not bad.
I'm sure I can get laid for less than that.

Anyway he's one of the last true soul legend... alive & kicking.
Ok he's not as fit as he used to in the 70's but when you close your eyes, it's like being back in the late 60's- early 70's.
The voice is intact, soft & powerful.

A real actor on stage , always doing funny faces and always giving out dozens & dozens of roses to beautiful girls... and there were lots and lots of stunning girls in the audience.
It looks like the more the tickets are expensive the more you get beautiful girls.
The weather is so hot that they wear almost nothing, hard to concentrate on the gig, but we're professionnals.
Al Green is also very hot as he's sweating buckets.
The 3 girls on backing vocals are his daughters: " All Green".

SETLIST:
  • ?
  • Stay with me
  • Pretty Woman
  • ?
  • Let's stay together
  • How can you mend a broken heart
  • Here I am
  • Medley : Sugar Pie Honey Bunch ( Temptations) / My Girl (Temptations)/ ? / Sitting on the dock of the Bay( Otis redding)/ You are everything(Marvin Gaye).
  • So Tired of being alone
  • Still in love with you
  • Simply Beautiful
  • Love & happiness.

Many of his songs are short so we had extended version for some of them including "Love & happiness" which was the last song of the night.
As always like many black artists from the 50's-60's ( Ray Charles, Chuck Berry & many others) Al Green is only on stage for more than 60 minutes (well in fact 65 minutes from 9:16 to 10:20) but it's so good than it's worth 2 hours.

One of our favorite gig for this year 2010. Amen !

Sorry no video for this one.
