Vernissage Euro-Punk Exhibition @ Cité de la Musique, Paris Oct 14 2013

Vernissage Euro-Punk Exhibition @ Cité de la Musique, Paris Oct 14 2013 6pm
 Punk  Exhibition

"Vernissage" for the Euro-Punk exhibition that is taking place @ Cité de la Musique in Paris, lots of people who are quietly queuing to get in.
Lots of papers: Posters, flyers... some art-work, covers + albums & singles
Some vintage clothes from Vivienne Westwood.
The Sex Pistols & The Clash have a bit more than some others bands but they were the leaders of this movement so...
You can make your own Punk Badge, there is a machine
You can even play with instruments in a soundproof room under the supervision of a musician, that is very cool, I've tried the drums even though I have'nt touch to a drum kit for the last 20 years... that was fun.
You can view old footage of different concerts ( Joy Division, Slits, Clash, Siouxsie, Pistols...)
You can listen to a "Punk Jukebox" in the basement and in the room next-door , they're playing a German Documentary about Punk, that was taped at the time with some unknown bands but also with The Clash, Wayne County, The Jam...and a few others that is very interesting (live footage and interviews, funny one with The Stranglers)
  Overall good exhibition

Fleetwood Mac @ Paris, Bercy Oct 11 2013

Fleetwood Mac @ Paris, Bercy Oct 11 2013

Fleetwood Mac back in Paris, 4 years after playing @ Zénith, this time it's @ Paris Bercy 12000 capacity arena as it's an all seated event.
Due to circonstances beyond our control we've missed the first 4 songs of the set, too bad as they've played songs from "Rumours" that has recently been re-released as an expanded edition.
For the best Pictures of FLEETWOOD MAC on the net it's on ROCKERPARIS
The stage is absolutly beautiful with a huge screen in the back playing short movies or what's going on on stage, the lightning is bright (perfect for taking pictures) and the sound is neat.
They have 4 additional musicians with Brett Tuggle on keys (former David lee Roth band) including on guy on percussions, helping out Mick Fleetwood, that is hidden behind the PA and won't be introduced to the audience unlike the other musicians and backing vocals girls.

Luckily the audience is a bit more wild that at The Who concert and people are standing up and rushing to the front of the stage at the beginning of the 2h30 min show.
The band is playing all the hits (see setlist for details) and a couple of newbies.
Some of the songs are extended and Lindsey is showing the whole world how under-estimated a guitar player he is. He's playing with his fingers and what a fabulous guitar player.
Stevie Nicks still have her trademark voice and clothes, we even have a drum solo by Mick Fleetwood always keen on going down the front to play the fool trying to get the elusive John McVie in his games with no success.
Can't tell you that Fleetwood Mac's music is our drug of choice, some of the songs are a bit "light" to us. No need to tell you that we prefer the first incarnation of Fleetwood Mac, at the time it was: Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac and they were a British Blues band.
Nevertheless some of the songs performed tonight are classics, the band is an institution in England and in the US of A.
English and Americans were en force in Bercy tonight.
Too bad that some of the introductions to some of the songs were a bit long, do we really need to hear long stories ? , or maybe is it a good way for them to catch their breath between songs or for Stevie to change clothes.
Overall good show

Willis Earl Beal @ L'Album de la Semaine, Paris Oct 09 2013

Willis Earl Beal @ L'Album de la Semaine, Paris Oct 09 2013
Sometimes you go to a concert expecting a lot and you got, almost, nothing (Babyshambles) and sometimes you go to a concert expecting nothing and you got A LOT !
Tonight it's the latter.

Never heard anything about that guy, Willis Earl Beal, before except that Cat Power sung a song with him and that the guy was homeless at one moment in his life and Oh Yeah... that he was singing soul music.
Didn't know what to expect when 3 black guys ( on drums, bass &guitar/piano ) all dressed up in black and the singer wearing a mask , like Zorro and a fucking cape... What the Fuck !

Strange sound at first with some weird synthesizers and then he started singing, a fucking revelation, this guys has something in his voice and he's playing the part on stage.
Like a young Screaming Jay Hawkins  or a stripped down version of Tom Waits: a big voice with that something that makes the difference.
The music, stripped down as well:in fact only one song can be really considered "soul" all the other songs are swimming in a sea of  lo-fi- blues and soul with just what is needed: a bit of drums a bit of bass and some piano or guitar.

Had a revelation tonight, it's called Willis Earl Beal.

Anna Calvi is also doing a radio show "Live me do" on France Inter tonight

Metallica "Through the never" Première @ Grand Rex, Paris Oct 08 2013 9pm

Metallica "Through the never" Première @ Grand Rex, Paris Oct 08 2013 9pm

After seeing both Lars & Kirk @ Fnac store this afternoon, it's time for the Première in Paris from "Through the never". Many fans payed up to 60 euros to attend this event.
The Grand Rex is one of the most beautiful theater in Paris and as you can see on the pic above the front of the theater is decorated with Metallica images ( thanks to 3 digital screens).
Kirk and Robert already attended a Lou Reed concert here a couple of years ago (click for the pic)
The band is on time as it's broadcasted in more than a 100 cinemas in France and Belgium, starting with a couple of interviews outside in front of the theater and signing a few cds for fans and ebay sellers, then it's a photo-call in front of the backdrop (see pics above).
Lars and Kirk are getting into the hall from the back of the venue to the stage to the surprise of fans who can shake hands with both of them. (Video here and here)  Everything is going smoothly as there is security everywhere, I mean everywhere !!! But the guys are cool.
Official METALLICA video from the Q&A here.
Lars & Kirk are taking a seat on stage and answering a few questions for 20 min+ (see video below) and are making a quick exit backstage, only to go back in front of the backdrop at the entrance for some more interviews while fans are putting their 3d glasses on and enjoying the movie.

The 3D is quite amazing, live footage is stunning but I have many doubts about the rest, it's complete nonsense, though it's very well recorded with some stunning effects but the movie is ending abruptly with everyone wondering: what the fuck ?!? Is that it ? very strange.

That was a great Metallica day for us.
