Babyshambles + Jim Jones Revue @ Chorus Live fest, Paris , March 29 2014

Babyshambles + Jim Jones Revue @ Chorus Live fest, Paris , March 29 2014

CHORUS FEST with BABYSHAMBLES, Jim Jones Revue, Melle K,
The Bell Rays on sunday

Melle K is already on stage when we're making our way into what looks like a small plane hangar with a capacity of around 2000 people. Nice pop-rock she ended the set crowd surfing.

It's a really nice place in the middle of the Esplanade de la Défense, with bars with drinks & food, vip area, backstage area... looks like a proper festival with two stages a place to chill outside... but pocket-size-Fest of only 2000 people.
Next band TOYBLOID is playing in a nearby circus-tent that is like the Cabaret Sauvage (more or less 600 capacity)
Cool French power Trio with two girls on guitar/vocals and Bass not very inovative but powerful indie- rock.

Back to the Hangar for some powerful Boogie-Rock, it's heavy , it's greasy and the audience is pogoing like mad down the front, at least the boys. There's a majority of female teenagers in the audience as Peter Doherty & band will play afterwards.
As usual Jim Jones Revue is kicking ass. Straight after their concert they are going to the merchandising table to sign stuff and have their picture taken with fans.
We're wondering around the site a bit, before heading back to the main hall for the Babyshambles
Last show at the Zénith was very average because of Peter's attitude. Amazingly Peter didn't miss his train or plane, the band is on time. Peter seems a bit wasted but not too much and the band is tight. Nice surprise. Even more surprising They are playing one song after another there are no time outs between songs. No acoustic solo part.
The band is alternating between old and new songs, rock songs and reggae ones. They didn't really follow the initial setlist but I guess they've played the same songs in a different order.
Proper rock concert with no bullshit, Peter kept his shit together for this one.
GREAT set.

Vernissage March 27:

It was overcrowded , never saw so many people yesterday for the vernissage, hard to make a move in this tiny galerie on the beautiful Place des Vosges. Dominic was here of course, we had a few guests including photographers Christian Rose, Claude Gassian and Tony Franck (pic above), Famous rock-critic Sacha Reins was there too. he told us he just got back from London where he did an interview with Jimmy Page for the new remastered version of the first 3 albums of LED ZEPPELIN that will be out in June with bonus material.

Status Quo @ Palais des Sports, Paris March 26 2014

Status Quo @ Palais des Sports, Paris March 26 2014

Status Quo on their own "never ending tour" this time with the original line-up featuring John Coghlan on drums and Alan Lancaster on bass.
Very slow start with Alan on vocals for a few songs then things are getting serious, I'm not too familiar with the repertoire so in the end it all sounded a bit the same to me. I guess Neil Young would say with a grin "It's all one song !"
As usual with the Quo, Francis is always acting funny and joking between songs, Rick is focus on his guitar playing.
Sound is clear and not too loud but from center stage it was hard to hear the drums at all, had to move to the left hand side to hear it correctly. Lightning is perfect , very bright.

Great rendition of "Roadhouse Blues"
Too bad they only played for just 90 min
People were expecting a bit more and were surprise that it was all over too/so soon.
Nice gig.

"On the road again" Feat. Henry Padovani, Dick Taylor @ Divan du Monde, Paris March 24 2014

"On the road again" @ Divan du Monde, Paris March 24 2014

free show, invit' only

Feat. Henry Padovani, Dick Taylor, Roya Arab & Kathy Mendonca

Concert exclusif "On the Road Again" !

on verra lundi soir
Hard to believe what I saw tonight, it's a free show and it's loaded with people, the balcony is closed, only for VIP's, people are having a blast.... What ?!?
First song is Canned Heat's "On the road again" that's the name of the band/reality-tv-show sponsored by a American Car brand that I won't name. The concept behind this band : take the musicians who left their band before  it became successful and make a "super-group" out of it. With rehearsals recorded and etc... for a reality show on French TV.
By listening to the first song , easy to hear that the band should have rehearsed a bit more, then they are playing a few more covers (Beatles, Lou Reed's "Vicious" , The Doors). 6-7 songs in all including a second version of "On the road again". Everything is recorded for that TV show.
The drum parts are kept to a minimum (not a great drummer, specially after seeing Carmine Appice in the very same club one week before) and the singer is lousy.
No disrespect to Henry Padovani (who I saw playing with his own band @ Gibus) and Dick Taylor (who I saw with the Pretty Things) and both band were great but the guys are probably desperate for cash for playing in such a reality show-band like this.
I've seen cover bands in bars much better than this.
Luckily there are some pretty girls in the audience , the only satisfying point that evening.
This is ridiculous and embarrassing. What went through their heads ?
