Linda Gail Lewis opening for Jerry Lee lewis @ Grand Rex Paris Nov 5th 2009
Less than one year after playing @ Le Zénith on Nov 14th 2008 ( click to see Pictures review & setlist ), Linda Gail Lewis is back in Paris opening once again for The Killer.
Still playing rock'n roll covers , nice piano playing and she's smiling.
SETLIST ( from http://www.chuckberry.de/ ) Around twelve songs (all of them featuring daughter Annie) including I’m Ready, Big Black Cadillac, Jambalaya, Rip It Up, Lonely Heart, Blues Suede Shoes, Good Golly Miss Molly, Lovin’ Up A Storm, Shake Rattle And Roll and Let’s Have A Party.
First on stage is French Janis Joplin called Izia, it could have been a problem to her to open for Motorhead. She did really well with her classic rock band, she's giving it all on stage and get Lemmy's fans eating in her hand.
Then MOTORHEAD, yes Lemmy we know you're Motorhead and you're playing Rock 'n Roll !!! Nice start with the "Iron Fist" then " Stay Clean". It's a small Zénith tonight ( 2500 seats ) and it's almost full , quite an achievement as Motorhead played here last year ( Click for review Pics & Video ) and there is nothing to promote today.

As usual with Motorhead they always put on a great show , they have so many great songs ( see video of "Going to Brazil" & " Killed by death" ). Once again they've played a couple of songs from " Another Perfect Day" one of my fav record ending the set with "Overkill" 90 min sharp including encore , not the best show they've done but they are still kicking ass.

Bad Lieutenant is playing the sold-out Olympia tonight opening for headliner Bat For Lashes ( Les Inrocks Fest ) but before that they're doing a showcase at the Fnac store at 5:30 Pm. We were allowed in just before 6:00 as the band were rehearsing a long time just to play 3 songs, yes only 3 songs !!! They've played 2 new songs and last one was from NEW Order ( Here on video ).

Then they did sign stuff to people , nothing was really organised as the band was in a hurry , Bernard Sumner signed records to whoever was next to him in a very relax atmosphere , no one was pushing and he took the time to speak to fans . Cool ! it's time for some of us to go to the Olympia , I'm going to Motorhead @ Zénith.
KISS will do around 40 dates on their European tour in the summer of 2010 with 8 shows in England in May including one @ Wembley. Thanks to my mate Ray for the news.

Troy Van Leeuven, guitar player in Queens Of The Stone Age has a band Sweethead and they're playing tonight at Canal+ tv show " L' Album de la Semaine".
More and more rock bands are dressed in a very smart way , Sweethead is one of them , all dressed with black suits ,and white boots for Troy. A Very sexy blonde with curly hair and nice red lips is on vocals dressed with a short black dress and black polish high heel shoes ( Christian Louboutin's ? ) looking like Madonna/Debby Harry. Enough for the look let's talk about the music , it's a straight rock band with rocking Jack D vocals that reminded me of 80's indie English rock with a taste of American west coast rock. It was the first time i was listening to the songs, unfortunately if most of the songs are good, you can't single out one or two. To succeed in this tough world you need a good single and i couldn't find any catchy songs tonight in their 7 songs set.

Ebony Bones @ L' Album de la Semaine Paris Nov 2nd 2009
Ebony Bones is the new media darling in Paris , there's a real buzz for this band for the last months. They've played the Rock en Seine festival in August and they will play Les Inrocks festival in a few days. I've never heard their music but I know that this English band is very colourful. It is indeed , first there are ten in the band and all dressed in the most colourful clothes you can think of. The music is very lively with some heavy drums ( there are two drummers ) like being trapped at the Notting hill Carnaval. You can't help but dance and the black female singer is a real entertainer. Too bad they only played 5 songs ( the last one being instrumental ).

Rodeo Massacre, Nat Jenkins & Dan smith @ Le Scopitone Paris Oct 31st 2009 Dan Smith
Saturday night at new club Le Scopitone ( former Paris Paris ) to see 3 bands i've never heard of before ( invit courtesy of Philippe ). The guest list is as long as my dick ( and it is very long ) and there are only 20 people max inside at 9 PM ( remember it's saturdaaaay ).
Dan Smith is first on the tiny stage alone on piano creating loops and samples and playing over it , a performance in itself. Then we have Nat jenkins a funny looking guy ( well for the frenchies as he's looking like French singer Michel Sardou 20 years ago ) playing indie/folk/rock with his band.

Last on stage, in front of a more compact audience, is Rodeo Massacre, these guys and the lovely blonde on vocals have probably listen to all The doors , The Seeds and Grace lick 's records to death before forming a band. Cool psychedelia for a short set no encore.
Here are the next recordings for the "rock" TV show TARATATA (It's a french Jools Holland ) on Nov 10 , 12nd, 13rd. Nothing really exciting. Bookings on the site.
Tonight there's the world premiere of NIRVANA 's "Live @ Reading" DVD at the posh Club de l' Etoile (Paris 17th district ). It might be a nice bash as there will be canopes and free drinks + Goodie bags. Can't go I have a dinner tonight.
The Noisettes are also playing the Trabendo. They are getting lots of airplays now in France.

We didn't see the Support band as we were talking at the bar but the sound seemed too loud.
Not that much to say if you've already seen The Dead Weather@ Cigale(click for Pics setlist & review ) or Canal+ Tv show recording@ L' Album de la semaine( click for review & pics ). Same shit as usual , at the time I didn't know the record at all and was a bit surprised @ La Cigale , the day after at Canal+ I thought it was better. Now I know the record ( and it is disappointing aprt from a couple of tunes ) and songs are much more better live than on cd but this band, is lacking good songs. Don't get me wrong the show in itself was good , Allison is wild , Jack's a real killer on drums (most of the time ) or guitar ( a couple of songs ) but there's something missing.
Good show but it could have been better. SETLIST to come soon ...

Sonic Youth @ L' Album de la Semaine Canal+ Paris Oct 27th 2009 MadameMime , Kim and Sionnan
After seeing Sonic Youth 2 days ago @ Palais des Congres ( Click for Pics review & video) in front of 3500 people , tonight it's much more intimate as there are only less than 250 people. The studio is really packed tonight , there's even people on the stalls on the side which is usually always empty. So Canal+ tried to invite as many people as possible. As usual for this TV show bands playing here are promoting their new album ( and they sometimes play a couple of oldies ). Sonic Youth only played new songs , no encore : too bad , but the performance was neat and the sound and the conditions were PERFECT. Soooo nice to see them in such a place , it's a bit like seeing them playing in your living room. After the show we met all of them and we had the time to take a couple of Pics
