Eric Burdon & The Animals @ Olympia, Paris Nov 26 2013

Eric Burdon & The Animals @ Olympia, Paris Nov 26 2013
The Animals (well what's left of...) were in Paris a few months ago at the tiny New Morning club now it's their singer ERIC BURDON.Last time Eric played Paris was at the Trabendo club, he also played a full show for France Inter radio in 2006.
Nice surprise the Olympia is quite full for this all seated event, of course  tickets were very expensive : 90 euros for the best seats down the front.
French singer Camille Bazbaz is opening, alone with a keyboard...well that was ok.

Then Legendary Eric Burdon is introduced on stage by the promoter, He's looking good, short white hair, sunglasses, jacket and scarf over a "peace-sign" tee-shirt. 7 musicians on stage including Eric Mac Fadden on guitar.
To  our surprise some of his most famous songs are played in the first part of the set, see setlist below for details, we're wondering what would be left for the encore. These songs are re-orchestrated for good, well..."Misunderstood"  is too slow compare to the original version.
We also have songs from the very good new record "Till your river runs dry", the band is tight and Eric's voice is fine.
"We're gonna get out of this place " is stretched out past the 10 min mark with guitar and keyboard soli, too bad that the audience, mostly in their late fifties, is a bit too quiet. We have to wait for the encore, 70 min after the start for them to stand up.
The band is leaving the stage after a rousing version of "I'm crying" here on video.
A second encore would have been perfect as they've only played for a bit more than 80 min.
Great show.

The Animals + Steve Cropper @ New Morning, Jan 24 2013

The Animals + Steve Cropper @ New Morning, Jan 24 2013
Lots of people tonight at the tiny New Morning Club, in fact it was SOLD-OUT a few weeks ago. I gues most people are here to see STAX legend Steve Cropper.
First we have a band playing some original material, not bad.

After a short break we  have The Animals... well, hard to call them the Animals as there is only the drummer (John Steel) from the original band and a keyboard player (Mickey Gallagher) who played one year with them.
In fact it's more an honest cover band playing blues (John Lee Hooker's "Dimples" & "Boom Boom") and Animals songs (see setlist for details).
Then the 'plat de resistance' with legendary STAX guitar player, co-writer of many STAX hits with Otis Redding, Eddie Floyd and Booker T & The MGs, Blues Brothers man STEVE CROPPER.
Unfortunately he probably drank too much Whiskey before getting on stage, each song is introduced with a very loooong anecdote which is getting on people's nerves who'd  rather see him playing than talking, he's also singing his songs ( see setlist for details) and he's not a great singer so...

I guess I was expecting a bit more than a cover band and some on and on talking...
Very average gig !

The Blues Brothers will be back in Paris this july for a show
