Elvis Perkins @ L' Album de la Semaine Canal+ March 31tst 2009

Setlist

Elvis Perkins is a busy man after playing à Black Session yesterday for C'est Lenoir on France Inter radio . ( we were @ The Wampas )
He's doing the famous Canal+ Tv Show "L 'Album de la Semaine".
He will be in concert on April 2nd @ La Maroquinerie.
He's playing a sweet folk-rock music à la Bob Dylan with some nice keyboard à la Al Kooper, a couple of songs have brass.
Songs are really coool , not the kind to headbang to.
If you like this kind of laid-back folk-rock Elvis Perkins is for you.
Sorry no pics : it's forbidden
see ya on April 1st and 2nd in Bercy for METALLICA

NEW : Ben Harper @ Cigale on April 20th

Les Wampas @ Casino de Paris March 30th 2009

Les Wampas + Les Brats @ Casino de Paris March 30th 2009

A sold-out Casino de Paris for the French Punk-Rock band Les Wampas

I've been a few times at the Gibus club a couple of years ago for the " baby-rocker scene" , and i can't remember seeing them but support band Les Brats were awful and some of their lyrics are really appalling.

Les Wampas are one of the "finest" rock band in France.
Seeing them playing live is always like Chritsmas. The atmosphere is really relax and it seems that everybody knows each other , their fans are like a big family. Quite surprising for a Punk band it's a 50% female audience.
They've played lots of new songs and their classics.

Didier Wampas crowd-surfing

Of Course Didier , the singer , went several times crowd-surfing while singing or playing guitar to the other side of the theatre even climbing up twice to the balcony to say hello and kiss people.

Didier is training for the Bouglione Cirkus ( left )

It's a tradition for the last song all the girls are getting on the stage , watch out if you're a man you'll be punch out immediately back into the pit.

Get over us little man !

We have a winner !

Eagles of Death Metal @ Bataclan March 27th 2009

Sold-Out again in Paris

The Pigeons of Shit Metal as Axl Rose famously called them once are back in Paris for another sold-out gig two months after their show at the Nouveau Casino ( Jan the 27th ).
I only saw them once and it was at the famous Canal+ tv show "L' Album de la semaine"(click for the review & setlist ) and i thought they were very limited and a rip-off of the Stones even tough they were funny.
I've allways prefer a serious good band to a funny shitty band.

A wild audience in da pit

Tonight i've changed my mind , seeing them in front of an excited live audience is quite a difference.
Don't get me wrong they're still a bit limited , well i'm talking about their singer Jesse, can't say that about the monster drummer ( QOTSA ) , this guy is a fucking killer on drums .
Dave Catching
on guitars is cool and doing his parts properly. They have a funny Marky Ramone look-alike on Bass.
The songs are lively ( i'm not too familiar with their repertoire ) and you can really feel that these guys are having fun.
They did a nice version of Brown Sugar and a killer " New Rose" by The Damned which was the very first Punk records months before the Sex Pistols.
Nice evening
See ya Mother Fuckers !
Setlist +
Ridiculous pass-sheet for a band that is playing theatres.

EODM with a guest on vocals :

The Pretty Things + Guests @ Trabendo March 26th 2009

The Pretty Things & guests
+ The revellions @ Trabendo March 26th 2009

The Revellions

I've missed part of the first band so can't tell you that much about it but they seem OK
Then we had The Revellions from Ireland , good set , we're in the time machine Year 1966-67, the singer was a bit wild and a bit drunk too. Nice opening.
Our fellow photographer Patrice Guino for ONCE was NOT on the guest list, and you can't imagine how pissed off he was , but thanks to one of his mate could get in. ;-)
It's Funny when these things happen as it tends to annoy him greatly and make us LoL... anyway enjoy his pictures and fuck'em all.
The 3 Stooges

Nice to see The Pretty Things back in Paris , last time we saw them was at the 40th (?) anniversary of the Gibus Club a couple of year ago.
They have two new kids on drums and Bass.
Things haven't changed that much , still the same ol' blues rock, i really dig the guitar sound ( courtesy of Dick Taylor ) and Phil is as cool as ever.
Phil is showing us a magic trick ( left )
They invited guests to come and play with them , French singer Little Bob and French guitar player Henry Padovani (who was in the first line-up of The Police before Andy Summers ) for a couple of blues songs . See video of the second song below.
Once again a nice set and don't be fooled by the setlist below a couple of things are missing on it.

Iggy Pop + guests @ " La Musicale " March 25th 2009

Iggy Pop + Keren Ann , Emma De Caunes , Catherine Ringer , Benjamin Biolay , Peaches & Izia
@ "La Musicale" Canal+ March 25th 2009
Second day of recording for this french TV show that will be broadcasted on Canal+ on April 27th.

Things went much more smoothly than yesterday , they didn't have to do 2 or 3 takes of the same song and instead of staying almost 2 hours we only stayed for an hour.
Guests were more interesting and the show was more rock.

Setlist 1

Same as yesterday as we had duets once again :
  • For the first number " Les feuilles mortes" Iggy was solo , slow song , it's a poem from Jacques Prevert , french crooner Yves Montand made it famous by singing it.
  • First duet of the night with Keren Ann , cool song too
  • Iggy solo for what is his first single ( "Kings of the dogs" ) from his new album " Preliminaires"
  • Great duet with the beautiful MC for this show Emma De Caunes ( daughter of famous Antoine De Caunes ) on " You're the boss" originally sung by Elvis and Ann Margeret
  • Another great duet with Catherine Ringer ( from Rita Mitsuko ) on Screaming Jay Hawkins ' " i put a spell on You"
  • Benjamin Biolay did a cool one with Iggy
  • Peaches as always is a bit mad , the two seems to go on well ( Peaches played on several songs from Skull Ring )
  • Last guest was Izia ( daughter of French singer Jacques Higelin ) who already opened for The Stooges in Paris a couple of years ago. She's young , in her late teens , and has a nice rocking voice à la Janis Joplin. First song was dedicated to Ron Asheton , the late Stooges who died a couple of months ago , then we were lucky to be treated with a bonus song that wasn't planned " Gloria" by Van Morrison.
setlist 2

Great night and much more better than yesterday's recording.
One again Great job by Stéphane Saunier who organised everything.
This show is really one of a kind , seeing Iggy performing duets with all these artists and having the Primeur of hearing his new songs LIVE more than one month before it's out ( May 15th ) is a real privilege.

Oh ! by the way here's the artwork from Iggy Pop 's new album " Préliminaires":

There was a press conference @ the Hotel Regina in Paris the day after and Iggy Pop confirmed that he will NOT tour for this record .
So this tv show will be the only time he performed these songs.
How lucky we were.

Iggy Pop + Graces Jones ... @ La Musicale March 24th 2009

Casting

First day of recording for this Canal+ tv show " La Musicale" specially called "Nightclubbing".

Iggy Pop has invited a few guests, the stage is like Paris in the 50's as his new album is influenced by French writer Michel Houellebecq.
Around 300 people in this studio some seating down the front as in a café others seating in stalls.

Setlist 1
All songs are duets ( except as noted ):

  • First on stage with Iggy is singer Stephan Eicher for a good rock song.
  • Then we have AYO for Jacques Brel 's " Ne me quitte pas" , this one is just ok.
  • French writter Michel Houellebecq is singing one , the poor guy seems a bit lost on the stage.
  • Iggy is doing one on his own, reading Houellebecq's text over music.
  • China Moses ( daughter of Jazz singer Dee Dee Bridgwater ) is doing a great version of Cab Calloway's "Minnie the Moocher"
  • The poor girl Arielle Dombasle is doing " Rum and cola". What the fuck is that chick doing here ? Over here in France everybody's laughing at her , zero credibility. They had to do it twice , nice ! Sooo ridiculous.
  • Special surprise as Grace Jones is a last minute addition to the program ( she was at the Grand Rex a couple of days ago , see our review HERE ). Before getting on stage they both stayed behind a white curtain so we just could see their shadow and as the technicians were getting things ready , they both had a little bit of fun doing as if they were spanking and fucking eachother, we had a good laugh .They did a rehearsal version then a proper one. Grace just laughed in the middle of the song but Iggy told her to continue as if nothing had happened .They both went singing walking around the tables in the audience. Great even though they've done Grace Jones' version of the song which is not my favorite.
  • Iggy did " The Passenger" on his own with the band and went to sing in the audience. Fantastic as he hasn't played that song probably since 2003. It's a bonus as it wasn't planned.
  • They had to do another version of " nightclubbing" so Grace Jones was called back.
  • Recording ended with a boogie Woogie on Piano
Nice evening, Iggy was really relax , still one question tough , What the fuck was doing Arielle Dombasle here ???

Setlist 2
Sorry no pictures : forbidden
see ya tomorrow for the second part with Peaches , Catherine Ringer ( rita Mitsuko ) , Keren Ann & Benjamin Biolay .

Iggy Pop @ La Musicale March 24th & 25th 2009

Iggy Pop will be in Paris on the 24th & 25th to record " a Canal+ tv show : " La Musicale" specially called " Nightclubbing II" with other artists including : CATHERINE RINGER, AYO, ARIELLE DOMBASLE ( ! ), KEREN ANN, STEPHAN EICHER, PEACHES, BENJAMIN BIOLAY & CHINA MOSES.

Don't forget that The Pretty things are playing the Trabendo on the 26th.

Grace Jones @ Grand Rex Paris March 22nd 2009

Grace Jones @ Grand Rex Paris March 22nd 2009.

Not really a fan of what she's doing but my mate Ray from Ray's gigs told me that the show was great so i went.
The Grand Rex was sold-out a long time ago, touts are everywhere outside this beautiful 2000 seats capacity theatre in the center of Paris.
Funny how she has become a gay icon now , with an audience of 80 % gay male in their 30's.
The show starts with Grace singing " nightclubbing" from the top of a platform.
It's hard to believe that she's 60 years old , she's got the body of a 30 year old woman.
The voice is fine and she wears a different outfit ( at least hat ) on EVERY song, so she's going backstage between every song but that's ok as she's telling stories and jokes while getting changed.

I'm not too familiar with her repertoire but i recognised " La vie en Rose" of course , " Love is the drug" ( in a very heavy version ) , " Slave to the rythm", " Libertango", "Pull up to the Bumper".
Many songs from her last cd "Hurricane" were played.

Nice tight ass

She went to sing one in the audience and had 50 people on the stage for another.
Light show was minimalist and the whole band ( 6 musicians and 2 backing vocals girls ) was all dressed in black so was Grace Jones for the whole gig.
It was a bit like a disco with confettis and lasers just like in the 80's.

Judas Priest @ Zénith Paris March 21st 2009
All pictures © Guino Patrice
Nice to see the Priest back in Paris.

An almost SOLD-OUT Zénith is welcoming them ( 6500 capacity ).
Nostradamus their last concept-album didn't convinced anyone, we only get a few songs from it.
The rest was just Classics , classics & classics...
Scott Travis on drums is kicking ass as usual , he's so good that while playing on "PainKiller" he's taking the time to talk to his drum tech.
Both guitar player K.K. & Glen are both brilliant on guitars while Ian Hill is still as solid on bass even though his bass was put forward too much in the mix.
Unfortunately Rob's voice is very weak and he's sometimes breathless.
There's so much effects on his voice that it is sometimes embarrassing.
I'm also wondering if they are tapes to back him up on some songs.

Great set by MEGADETH
They were on for almost an hour ( there was a clock on the side of the stage to remind them how long they had to play) , the sound was clear and Dave's voice was fine.

Nice lightning and beautiful stage set up.
They've done a Best of... including : A tout le monde , Peace sells , Hangar 18 , Holy wars...

James Lomenzo was on Bass. Chris Broderick on guitar.
France really loves Megadeth and the almost SOLD -OUT Zénith ( 6500 seats ) greated them with open harms.

Testament was opening , i just saw their last 2 songs that was enough.
Judas Priest is next...

Bashung 's Funeral @ Pere Lachaise Paris

A couple of friends and I , went to Alain' s funeral @ Pere Lachaise ( where is buried Jim Morrison ) in Paris.
Ceremony was around 3 PM, of course they were many people outside the perimeter around his grave in one of the beautiful spot and "old " part of this famous French cemetery.
We had a quick chat with some people from his entourage.
French artists Yves Simon , Daniel Darc , Rachid Tahah , Christophe & Rodolph Burger were there + family & people who worked with Alain Bashung these last few years.
We left a white flower on the casket before they closed and sealed the grave and opened the ceremony to the general public.

AC/DC " Anything Goes" video Recorded in Paris Bercy Feb 27th 2009

Hi There
Here's the new video for " Anything Goes" that was recorded in an empty Bercy during the afternoon and during the 2nd concert on the 27th in front of a live audience.
To me it's just an average live shot.
What does it have to do with the song title ?
Just a good promotionnal clip for AC/DC.

Sometimes there's nothing to say about a gig.
Buzzcocks just mother-fuckin' burn that place down

From start to finish , faster than a bullet train.

No ballads , no intermission just ROCK 'N ROLL !
The gig of the year for me
Steve Diggle was WILD for the whole set , He would kick Pete townshend out of the WHO
The only thing i can't understand :
Why is Pete Shelley coming on stage in a fucking tracksuit ?
Come on... Man , it ruins everything !
Mind-blowing

As usual at a" punk" concert it ended with a fight in the audience .
These bloody frenchies can't behave themselves.

Franz Ferdinand @ Olympia Paris March 18th 2009

Franz Ferdinand + Kissogram @ Olympia March 18th 2009.

Interesting set by support band KISSOGRAM , the kind of cold electronic rock that i really hate , they're German , it's no surprise this kind of music was very popular there in the 80's.
Then Franz Ferdinand ; i've seen then twice last month for private gigs , on the very same day , they were great each time .
Their show at La Cigale , in November 2008 for the Inrockuptibles Festival was also a highlight. ( see review, setlist, pics and video from this show HERE )
Their records really don't give them justice , it's a band you have to catch LIVE.
Tonight was no exception , they've rocked the Olympia theatre for this second SOLD-OUT gig here.
Songs from the last cd " Tonight" are fitting perfectly with older songs and are now classics .
Just another great gig from Franz Ferdinand , nice lightshow too with projections on the huge screen in the back to nice effects.
Low point : How can a band play only for 80 min with 3 records under their belt ?

Christophe @ Olympia Paris March 13th 2009

French singer Christophe is playing his last show tonight at the Olympia theatre in Paris, he's here tonight with guests including Eric Truffaz on trumpet who came on stage 3-4 times.
Gail Ann Dorsey , who played for David Bowie among many others , was on bass for the whole show ; Eumir Deodato was lucky to conduct most of the time an orchestra of very sexy violin players.
Carmine Appice
appeared twice and did two fantastic drum soli.
First part of the show consisted of Christophe new cd , some part are good , others a bit boring.
Gail Ann Dorsey on Bass

Second part consisted of his hit songs , some of them re-arranged.

Christophe & Eric Truffaz

The whole cast with Eumir Deodato conducting

& Carmine Appice on the right clapping

Christophe is a funny guy on stage , always sitting on a stool , taking pictures all along the show of his musicians with a disposable camera that he throws away into the audience at the end.

WHAT A FUCKING WEEK I HAD !!!

Toxic Twins
Kissing

They started the gig nicely with "Baddie's boogie" ( Here on video ) and then i can't bloody remember a thing , they've played hits after hits , it was a Libertines/Babyshambles Best of... they even played a cover from one of those shitty electronic duet from the eighties. ( "West end girls" from The Pet Shop Boys).

SETLIST included " Back from the dead" , "fuck forever" , "Unstookie titled", " I wish", "Albion", ...plus others , i'll get the correct setlist soon )

Pete and Mick were in high spirit , both having the time of their life , joking , kissing eachother ( see picture above ) .
Nice to have Mick back for Babyshambles songs as Graham Coxon seemed a bit lost playing them ( He was perfect on Pete 's solo material @ the Bataclan ).
Conditions were perfect for me as i was seating in a sofa just in front of Pete ( well , in fact there was no stage at all ) with 200 people behind me in this trendy club having also the time of their life.
A few posh people and very sexy girls ( this was the last day of the Fashion week in Paris ) but many fans were invited by band members ( Thanks Adam for putting Mathilde and I on the guest list ) including all the "hangers on" from the Bergerac café.
The band was on for a good hour playing 14-15 songs.
Pete was particularly WILD tonight singing in the audience , sofa-diving into the audience ( first time i'm seeing someone doing a SOFA-diving ) ; crashing his mike or the drums by jumping on it and finally tearing down part of the ceiling by hitting on it with the mike-stand .

Pete was really wasted by the end of this FANTASTIC GIG , probably the best I have ever seen from the Shambles.

It's a big family, everybody seems to know each other.

Peter was playing one song at 6:00 Pm for Canal+ tv show " Le Grand Journal " ( click to see Peter performing his single ) we couldn't get there in time as the show wasn't broadcasted live but recorded one hour earlier than usual , too bad !

We had a long chat with Graham Coxon , He's so nice and he gave us some great infos about the Blur return. I won't tell .

Pete Doherty Double decker bus ride in Paris March 10th 2009

UPDATED : March 11th with new pics and videos

Ride On

Pete Doherty was supposed to play a private gig in a double decker bus at 1 pm , once again this publicity stunt for the released of his solo cd was CANCELLED at the eleventh hour.

In fact NO , we had a phone call from the record company who made everything possible to get Peter , so we picked him up at 7:30 Pm with the bus directly at his hotel and we ( 15 competition winners + Pete 's friends ) headed for the Bataclan.
We ( i mean Mathilde , Candice and myself ) were sitting on the upper deck first row down the front just next to him , how cool is that !
We were given posters and tee-shirt but no cd , it's not out yet .
It was funny to see Pete having his new solo cd in his hands for the very first time , he looked at the cd and the booklet carefully.

One beer for the road

Everyone could get his things signed , took pics with him , had a chat and then he took his guitar and played us several songs, taking requests ( setlist soon ) until we arrived at the Bataclan 40 minutes later.

SETLIST : (click on songs to see videos , thanks to candice for filming )

Nice 5 songs set by Adam Ficek. He was welcome by the audience
Then we had Alan Wass & friend , they just played a few songs on acoustic guitar , it was a bit of a mess but i liked it.
Both of these guys are just assholes , we were backstage after the show and they were completely pissed and were kicked out of the backstage ( don't know the reason ) by the manager. Lots of tension because of this two dickheads. Nearly a fist fight.

Great set by Pete , lots of people on stage : Pete + Adam & Drew , 2 keyboard players , 3 classical musicians + Graham Coxon on guitar & Miss Allison on vocals for one song.
Nice combination of full band songs and acoustic numbers with Pete on his own.
Graham seemed sometimes a bit lost in all of this but nevertheless did some great guitar licks à la Jeff beck.
Lots of slow or medium tempo songs ( i'm not familiar with the new songs ) except for the last one " Time is for Heroes " the fastest song of the night , here on video
ENJOY !!!

Very cool 30 min+ show with Adam in this lovely bar ( Pop' in ), lots of beautiful girls tonight.
Nice atmosphere everybody is very relax including the Staff ( quite a change compare to those assholes from the Truskel ).
Adam is one of the nicest musicians i have ever met , be sure to get to the Bataclan early tomorrow to hear him play.

Adam will be opening for Pete Doherty @ Bataclan on March 9th and 10th.
He will also play a showcase at Gibert Music store ( Boulevard St Michel ) at 5 PM on the 11th .

Sisters of Mercy @ Bataclan Paris March 7th 2009

Sisters of Mercy @ Bataclan Paris March 7th 2009

I just went to the gig out of curiosity as i don't really know anything about this band.
Just think of the heaviest and darkest early-The Cure song and you'll guess what kind of music they're playing.
First surprise : it's sold-out & the audience is VERY different from the one i've met this afternoon at the Charlie Winston showcase, instead of the 98% teenage girls, we have here a 70% male audience in their late thirties ALL dressed in Black.
The show hasn't started yet that i've never seen so much dry ice on a stage anywhere . It is hard to see the musicians on the first song and all along the concert.
There is so much smoke at the end of the show that it's also difficult to see the audience on the other side of the Bataclan.
The music is enjoyable even though it is very dark but the sound is too perfect and i'm wondering if they're not using tapes for the music and even for some vocals ( Backing vocals are obviously NOT live ).
Photographers are only allowed one song , I 'd like to see their pics, the dry ice is everywhere
The songs sounded a bit the same but the audience seemed to be really INTO it.

Here's a review from their show in Koln Germany from Oliver Peel with setlist & pics

Charlie Winston @ Fnac Forum March 7th 2009

Charlie Winston is getting very popular in France thanks to his hit single " Like a hobo ".
This saturday afternoon he's playing a showcase at the Fnac Forum in Paris.
Lots of girls ( 98% ) aging between 14 and 18 , all very beautiful , constantly talking about his tiny little ass ;-)
Anyway , i'm here for the music.
He's playing a nice combination of Pop-Folk with a bit of soul.
He's alternating between his acoustic guitar and his piano, he's here with a drummer , bass player ans harmonica player.
The voice is very good and the cool attitude is lighting the audience. hard to make a move the place is jammed.
After his set, he signed a few cds to fans , the guy seems very nice too.
Cool 30 min+ set.

Anais @ Fnac Forum March 5th 2009

French singer Anais did a showcase at Fnac Forum store in Paris at 5:30 PM
I happened to do some shopping there so i went to see her as it was not crowdy.
She came with 2 acoustic guitar players and ONLY played 5 songs including a Billy Idol cover.
She has funny lyrics and the music is allright.
Once again as we were making our way in, the security told us "No photos and No recording" and when the girl introduced her she repeated "No pictures whatsover".
Funny how some artists can act like divas.
Hey baby you're not The Rolling Stones... yet.

Oh Yeah , one more thing :
Lynyrd Skynyrd and Whitesnake are playing in Paris in june, prices are betwen 67 and 80 euros for Skynyrd and between 50 & 70 euros for the Snake.

How is that possible ?
You MOTHER-FUCKING SON OF A BITCH of french promoter , everywhere in Europe both these bands are playing for no more than 40 euros.
Gérard drouot productions: You BASTARDS
I feel better now ;-)

Loney Dear @ C'est Lenoir , Black Session # 295 Paris March 4th 2009

Loney Dear live @ Black Session for the C'est Lenoir radio show on french France Inter.

Loney Dear

I've never heard that Swedish "one man band" before and they ( he ) made a great impression on me as it's probably one of the best Black Session i've been to.
This guy (Emil Svanängen ) is just making some great pop-folk music.
Check his Myspace page here to listen to his music

The show was broadcasted live and we were lucky to be treated with 3 extra songs after the broadcast ended.
He had a standing ovation , everyone went home with a smile on their face.
GREAT !!!

Here's a review from their showcase at the Fnac store in Paris a couple of days ago on Oliver Peel 's site. In german and in french with pictures.

Steve Jones ( Sex Pistols ) to join The Stooges ?

British punk icon STEVE JONES has offered his services to IGGY POP as the LUST FOR LIFE hitmaker contemplates life after the death of THE STOOGES guitarist RON ASHETON.
Asheton, 60, reportedly died from a heart attack on 6 January (09) - just months after reconciling with Pop for a Stooges comeback.
But Jones is keen to keep the band's plans on track after quitting his Job as a Los Angeles DJ.
He tells the Los Angeles Times that he and Pop have been talking about Jones becoming an honorary member of The Stooges for upcoming tour dates.

OASIS Live @ Paris Bercy March 3rd 2009
Sold-Out show in this 17 000 arena.
The gig started really well with 5 songs in a row , unfortunately the show was plagued with technical problems , the PA was not working . In fact we discover that the right speakers didn't work at all until they started working . Nice !
Then they gave up twice forcing the band to leave the stage for a couple of minutes.
Anyway that was rock' n roll , that's when things are fucking up that it's funny.
Rock bands are so boring nowadays.
Liam is always acting like a wanker , throwing is mike to the ground several times but his voice was fine.
Noel was perfect all along the show.
Liam get a girl on stage for "Supersonic" ( see video below )
I've prefered this gig to the one they've done a few months ago at the tiny Bataclan in Paris.
But nevertheless there's a huge gap between a band like AC/DC, which played 2 shows in Bercy last week, and OASIS.
They look and sound like a ballroom band compare to AC/DC.
Enjoyable gig but it could have better.
We were lucky that it wasn't worse as often with Oasis
Un petit coucou à Tonton Francis ;-)

Pete Doherty @ L' Album de la semaine March 2nd 2009

AC/DC has left Paris on saturday , sunday is a day off for me.
Monday back to rock'n roll with Pete Doherty playing Canal+ TV show : " L' album de la Semaine".

This week with AC/DC will be hard to forget for many reasons, from the day they arrived in Paris ( Feb 23rd ) till the day they left ( Feb 28th ) to go to belgium to play their next show in Antwerpen.

setlist to be completed...

Pete Doherty solo with just an acoustic guitar is always funny to see ( remember the gig @ the Truskel which ended in chaos ) . This time it's more relax , in front of a selected audience of 200+ for Canal+.
He's very smart tonight and here to play his new album Grace/Wastelands ( out next week ) so lots of new songs that i'm hearing for the first time plus a couple of Babyshambles for the encore.
I'll get the setlist right tomorrow.
Very nice set and for once he's playing ( mostly ) in tune and the vocals are right too.
A club gig without the chaos.
So sad he left straight after the gig , no one could meet him.

Past Pete Doherty reviews :
Maroquinerie Nov 2008 ( with videos )
Fete de L' Humanité ( Babyshambles )with videos
Truskel ( part 2 )with video
Truskel ( part 1 )with video

See you tomorrow morning for a radio show with Pete.

The Answer @ Fnac Montparnasse Paris March 2nd 2009

The Answer @ Fnac Montparnasse Paris March 2nd 5:30 PM

After opening for AC/DC in Paris Bercy on both nights, The Answer is playing a free gig at the Fnac store in Paris. I thought they were a bit average in Bercy but in front of a small audience the band is smoking.
I was there late so i've missed the first 3 songs , hope they will be back in a club soon , there are bands that you appreciate more in a sweaty club than in a big arena. The Answer is one of them with their Heavy blues rock.

No Faces reunion ?

From my good friend Ray :
"It now looks certain the Rod Stewart And The Faces reunion tour WILL NOT HAPPEN this year as Rod Stewart is about to announce a UK and Europe Summer 2009 solo tour.Lets hope The Faces shows happen in 2010 or at least play a one off London show at the end of 2009"

Here's an recent interview ( Feb 24th ) with Ian McLagan :
EXPRESS: How did the recent rehearsal reunion of the Faces come about?
MAC: Because I've been working for it for 30 years or more! We had a rehearsal in London in November and it was great. It was just as much fun as it should have been — and as much fun as it always was. And we left with the idea that we would play a gig in London sometime this year. And if it went down well — which I'm sure it would — we would do a short tour. Well, nothing happened and I've never heard from Rod since then. Ronnie, Kenney and I had lunch in London on Wednesday, and Ronnie told me Rod is still keen to do something, but [Rod] really doesn't want to tour. But that may change. If we do one gig or two gigs, then he might get the buzz. He certainly had the buzz when we were rehearsing. He was in great spirits. And if the Faces aren't fun, the faces are fucked!

There are also strong rumours that The Rolling Stones will tour in the USA later this year.
So it's one more for The Faces not to reform this year.
