AIR + Jarvis Cocker @ Cité de la Musique, Paris June 4 2010

AIR + Jarvis Cocker @ Cité de la Musique
Paris June 4 2010

Third concert for AIR @ Cité de la Musique, after playing with Au Revoir Simone on June 1st, after playing their" The Virgin Suicides" soundtrack yesterday (scroll down for review & videos).
Tonight AIR is playing with former PULP singer and currently living in Paris Jarvis Cocker.

Air and Jarvis Cocker have worked together on Charlotte Gainsbourg 's album and Jarvis was the first to play the song " Sexy Boy" on the radio a few years ago when AIR was unknown.
They're starting the gig with a song they wrote for Charlotte( "The Operation") then we will get a mix of Jarvis' song solo ( "disney time") or with Pulp ( " Ladies Man", "This is Hardcore" ).
Most of the songs are mid-tempo and i'm not really familiar with this repertoire so i thought that the show was pretty average.
The most annoying parts were the tentative of Jarvis to introduce each song before it is played, unfortunately his French, even though he's been living here for a few years, is very poor and it was difficult to understand a bloody thing.
Even if he's trying not to show it , you can see that Nicolas is also very annoyed by Jarvis' monologues.

Pulp's"This is hardcore" had an ovation but the audience remained very quiet all along the set.
They ended the concert with their international hit " Sexy Boy" to rousing applauses, at last people woke up for the last song.
This gig was a bit of a let down compare to the perfect interpretation of " The Virgin Suicides" yesterday.

Have a nice week-end !

AIR + Hot Rats Performing " The Virgin Suicides" @ Cité de la Musique, Paris June 3 2010

AIR + Hot Rats @ Cité de la Musique
Paris, june 3 2010
La Cité de la Musique is celebrating the music of French electro band AIR with several gigs with different guests for each concert.
On June 1st, AIR played with American electro all-female band Au Revoir Simone.
Tonight AIR is playing for the first time ever in its entirety his masterpiece the soundtrack to the Sofia Coppola movie " The Virgin Suicides".
Tomorrow AIR will play with former Pulp singer Jarvis Cocker.
On june 6th AIR will play with The Orchestre National d'Ile de France @ Salle Pleyel.
First on stage is cover band Hot Rats with members of Supergrass( Gaz Coombes & Danny Goffey).
We already saw them Live @ The Album de la Semaine TV show a few months ago, they're still having fun playing covers from The Kinks, The Doors "Crystal Ship", Beastie Boys, Sex Pistols" EMI" here on video.Ending with Elvis Costello's " Pump it up".
They're Ok but not fantastic.

Performing "EMI" from the Sex Pistols

After a short break Gaz & danny are joining Jean-Benoit Dunkel (he's the one on keyboards) & Nicolas Godin (he's the one on bass) to perform in its enterety " The virgin Suicides" soundtrack.
No need to tell you that we were expecting this for a very long time as this soundtrack is one of our favorite record at ROCKERPARIS, much more better than the whole discography of AIR put together.
I'm surprised that there are only the four of them to perform , no additional musicians.
After they played the first song, you can hear that they record is played perfectly.
Maybe the Saxophone is missing on one song but that's not a big deal as it's played on bass and it may be strange but it sounded very good.
Not that much to say apart that the show was perfect
I had as much pleasure seeing this album taking life as I had when Lou reed performed his masterpiece Berlin at The Palais des Congres a few years ago.

Great record, Great 50 min set.
They came back for an Encore performing "Don't be light".

Then I went to the Cigale to meet a couple of friends and we bumped into the guys from Two Door Cinema Club who were taking pics with fans, here they are:

Rolling Stones' documentary " Stones in Exile" was shown this morning for the press in a cinema in the St Germain des Pres area (in the latin quarter).
It's about the recording of the Rolling Stones' "Exile on main street" which has just been out remastered ( for the 3rd time) with bonuses(that's a first).
Really nice hour Doc with lots of Pictures from Dominique Tarlé who was there when the album was recorded at the time and this morning to introduce the doc.
Always funny to see some knows faces in the audience who had a hard time getting up in the morning.
The distributor Eagle Vision had prepare us a nice breakfast.

French tv France5 will play it on June 10th @ 8:35PM.

In a few months they will release " Ladies & Gentlemen" from the Rolling Stones on DVD and Blue-ray.

Scissor Sisters + Morcheeba + Aloe Blacc @ La Musicale Canal+, Paris June 2nd 2010

Scissor Sisters + Morcheeba + Aloe Blacc
@ La Musicale Canal+ Paris, June 2 2010

Second day of recording for the Canal+ tv show La Musicale, yesterday it was with Eminem and two other bands ( can't remember their name).
Yesterday we at ROCKERPARIS were at the premiere of The Doors documentary " When you're strange" with their drummer John Densmore.

Tonight we could attend this TV recording, nice set up a bit like Jools Holland's tv show with the audience in the middle and three stages around it.
As you can see on the program ( detailed setlist above) each band performed two songs in the row unfortunately Scissor Sisters were the main attraction tonight as they performed 6 songs in all, Morcheeba only two ( we came for them) and Aloe Blacc 4 songs in all.

Scissor Sisters : I already saw them live in London at the Live8 a few years ago , they're very entertaining on a stage but the music ( apart from their latest single which they play first tonight) is complete crap, too much disco for me. Both singers came down in the audience to dance on the last song they've performed. Crap music but nevertheless entertaining Live.

Morcheeba: Great to see them back with the original singer Skye, very cool and relax music , too bad they only had two songs.

Aleo Blacc: Soulman ( unknown to us) is doing very good with vintage soul, even his clothes seemed vintage ( red pants) even the way he was dancing remembered me of the Sam & Dave routine. cool set ( 2 songs). He came back at the end of the show to play two extra songs (??) alone on the piano.

Very cool evening even though MC Emma De Caunes was annoying acting stupidly during the interviews. Her English is also very far from being perfect.
Maybe someone should tell her that Cats have 9 lives NOT 7, as she kept on asking musicians which of their 7 lives they were living.

Tomorrow morning I'm going to the screening of The Rolling Stones' documentary "Stones in Exile" Thanks to our mate from website DOCTORSTONES.
We ( I ) should go to the Cité de la Musique tomorrow night to see Air & Jarvis Cocker if I'm not too sick as i catch a cold a couple of days ago and my mates from ROCKERPARIS left me alone in Paris this week.
