 Official opening is tonight even though the exhibition has been opened to the public for a couple of days, on March 03rd precisely, on the same night as the opening of the official exhibition DAVID IS... @ Philharmonie (Lots of Pics and a couple of videos, click on the link).
Lots of people and as usual Mr Sukita is nice and chatty to everyone even with the help of a translator.

My homemade print signed by the master, with the two covers joined together, he thought it was a funny idea.

Carl Barat played yesterday night @ Maroquinerie club in Paris.
Tonight he will play his new album for a tv show in front of a selected audience of less than 200 people.

Carl and his new band doing a proper show @ Canal+ with 13 songs planned on the setlist, we missed the first two as we arrived very late. The band is rocking and carl as nice as ever. Not a big difference between this band and the DPT. Rocking and a bit shambolic.
I like bands like this when the leader loves to play live, Carl didn't have enough and after asking technicians or manager if they had to re-do a song ( the answer was yes for two of them),  they asked the audience which songs they wanted to hear. adding in total another 5 songs to the set, ending it with "bang bang you're dead". nice

Retour gagnant pour Hanni El Khatib, la Gaité Lyrique affiche complet. Hanni a donné un concert il y a quelques jours à la Maison de la Radio dans le cadre de la Coming Up session sur France Inter (diffusion le 21 mars) malheureusement le concert tombait le même soir que le vernissage de l'exposition Bowie @ Philharmonie.
On se rattrape donc ce soir mais avant, il faut patienter avec un duo Anglais batterie/guitare, après les White Stripes et Royal Blood, voici Gallery Circus.
Ça joue extrêmement bien, le set est carré avec une musique se rapprochant des premiers Muse couplée à du White Stripes. Agréable. Un concurrent pour Royal Blood.

Hanni El Khatib monte sur scène au son du Wu Tang Clan, pour un premier titre très Rap dans sa forme même s'il est éxécuté par un groupe et une attitude typiquement Rock. Un peu comme si Neil Young s'était mis à écouté du Rap et à le retranscrire dans ses compos. Hanni doit vénérer le vieux Neil, ça s'entend dans sa façon de jouer de la guitare et dans la façon de se tenir sur scène, ce qui n'est pas pour nous déplaire. Musicalement les titres sont assez directs et sans fioritures et s'enchainent sans temps morts, juste le temps de demander à quelques crétins dans le public de se calmer et de ne pas se battre. Concert assez court, tout juste un peu plus d'une heure et c'est bien dommage, mais le public féminin présent en grande nombre ce soir ne lui en tiendra pas trop rigueur, ayant pu l'approcher au plus près lors d'un long solo de guitare au milieu du public.

Mr Sukita did, at least, 5 sessions with David Bowie along his career starting in 1972, two other very famous sessions followed, in 1973 (red background and Japanese clothes + make up for David) and in 1977 for the cover of "Heroes". Last two were in 1989 (David with a small beard) and in 2002. We also have some candid pictures from David Bowie and... some black/white Live Pics with The Spiders from Mars in Japan featuring Mick Ronson which are absolutely stunning.

All the pics were supervised by the photographer himself and send from Japan to France.

This exhibition just opened today, on the same day as the "David Is" exhibition @ Philharmonie. Some very famous pictures are here including two classic sessions from 1973 & 1977 ("Heroes").

We are very lucky today as Mr Masayoshi Sukita is here answering questions from journalists (with the help of a French/Japanese translator).

A must see exhibition (and it's free) if you're in the city center and heading to the "David Is" exhibition.

Of course all the pics are on sale starting @ 300 euros for the smaller ones to 4000 euros, all signed.

Petite visite à La Galerie Stardust ( à deux pas de République) afin d’apprécier le travail photographique de Monsieur Sukita, présent cet après midi pour répondre aux questions des journalistes et des fans de David Bowie venus nombreux. Un vieux monsieur extrêmement calme, digne et très gentil malgré l’agitation autour de lui, à la Japonaise quoi ! Un Monsieur qui a commencé sa carrière "Musicale" en prenant des clichés de Jimi Hendrix à New York City puis en enchainant sur Londres avec des sessions pour David Bowie (entre autres) après avoir présenté son book au manager du chanteur Anglais encore peu connu à l'époque, le début d'une longue association et amitié de plus de 40 ans avec le Thin White Duke avec qui il est toujours en contacte.
Plein de superbes photos,en couleurs et noir/blanc tirées de sessions, devenues mythiques avec le temps, dont les plus célèbres étant celles qu'il réalisa pour la pochette de l'album "Heroes".
Un grand merci au directeur de la galerie pour son hospitalité.

With just a few days until the arrival of David Bowie Is at Philharmonie de Paris, La Galerie Stardust of Paris has announced an exhibition of Masayoshi Sukita’s remarkable David Bowie pictures from the thirty-year period, 1972 - 2002.
