Whalebone Polly + Rachael Dadd + This is the Kit +
Andy Skellam @ Oliver Peel session # 20
Paris March 27th 2010

Saturday, late afternoon , near the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France is like beeing fly to Bristol, England in the middle of the forest surrounded by goblins.
Special session with English folk artists.
First to play @ Oliver's is Andy Skellam for a few songs before he catches his flight back to his hometown of Bristol. very "roots" à la Bert Jansch.
We were lucky to get 5-6 songs as yesterday @ Espace B he didn't "feel" it at all and stopped his show after only 2 songs.
Next to play is This is the Kit feat. Kate Stabbles & Jessie D Vernon ( who's also playing in Morningstar ). Ever more roots than Andy with Banjo & Fiddle.
Very relax and "hippie" atmosphere @ Oliver's. We're talking about real hippies here NOT "bourgeois Boheme" with their iPhone in the backpocket of their Armani jeans.
Then it's Rachael Dadd, same kind of folk music , very "roots" with banjo.
Later Rachael is inviting Kate to play a couple of songs ( under the Name Whalebone Polly) then Jessie is joining in for the last song.
As you can see it's colourfull, this session is once again a success with lots of new faces, too bad we didn'nt take any group pic after all these artists played.
Oliver's appartment is packed, the wine is flowing so is the veggie food ( only veggie food with these folkies ! ).
Part of the audience (left) & Espace B girls testing white wine.(right)

A kid wanna ro...folk, nice bag Honey !

On Wednesday 31th March @ Espace B ( M° Corentin Cariou, 75019) June Madrona (Folk/Punk) & Mia Doi Todd ( Michel Gondry directed her last video, HERE) are playing don't miss this one.

Elliott Murphy @ Fnac Forum, Paris March 26th 2010

Elliott Murphy @ Fnac forum
Paris march 26th 2010 5:30 PM
Before his concert tomorrow ( saturday) @ the New Morning club in Paris, Elliott Murphy with the Normandy all star Feat. Olivier Durand is doing a bit of promo for their latest DVD recorded live in Paris.
I haven't seen him in a long time , probably when he was a guest of Bruce Springsteen @ Parc des Princes in June 2008 ( click for review & Pics).

So it's cool to have in back over here, in fact he's living in Paris.
He opened this 40 min free show, in the middle of the cd racks, with a tribute to Alex chilton who died last week by playing a short version of The Letter as the technicians were checking the sound.
Elliott Murphy is always great on stage, his fanclub was there and the Fnac was packed to hear him playing acoustic version of his songs( 6-7 songs if I can remember ), including "Green River".
I won't be able to go on saturday ( There is an Oliver Peel session ) but if you like Americana music it's a gig NOT to be missed.

AC/DC 's " Let there be rock" to get DVD release

Let there be rock will be finally release on dvd in January 2011
Audio and video have been cleaned up

At the time of recording ( 1979) the French directors of this movie had dozens of hours of footages that have never been released.

REZA

Lots of people to see this English 50's rock'n roll revival band @ the beautiful Café de la Danse in Bastille.

Reza is opening, very nice starter with laid back & cool songs à la Go-Betweens ( they did a cover ) and Tindersticks.
Folk-rock with a bit of electric guitars.
Very cool set.

English youngsters Kitty Daisy & Lewis + their parents on acoustic guitar & stand-up bass.
The time machine is set back into the mid-fifties somewhere around Memphis.
In a time when Rock'n roll was still the bastard son of country music.

The girls are pretty in their red & blue dresses, these kids are exchanging instruments on everysong for some cool country- rock'n roll even a bit of dub (see video).

The audience is dancing in the aisles , too bad that they only have one record so the gig is only 75 min long.
Maybe they should communicate a bit more with the audience but they know at this very young age how to entertain and rock these frenchies.
ROCK 'N ROOOOOLLL !!!!!

The only song of the show with a Jamaican feeling:

Tomorrow Elliott Murphy @ Fnac forum 5:30 PM Free Show.
Airbourne is playing Le zénith @ 9:00 PM
Saturday is an Oliver Peel session.
Monday: Lonelady @ C'est Lenoir, Black session

Another Peter Doherty Secret show with Alan Wass @ Truskel tonight March 24th 2010

Updated March 27th with video

Peter Doherty with Alan Wass
@ Truskel, Paris March 24th 2010

Before the storm

Alan Wass & Peter

The show started very late , almost 1:00 AM.
Alan Wass started the gig playing several songs plagued by technical problems all along his set.
Sounds like the Stones " Exile" era, not as good of course !
He played for 45 min.

The atmosphere was electric since 11: 30 when the concert was supposed to start, once again the Truskel, like 2 years ago when Peter played there after he cancelled the Grand Rex ( click for review ), fucked it up so badly, no organization at all. People were crushed down the front, heavy and stupid security. Stupid people pushing their way to the front... a really mess and not only in the audience but also on stage.

Peter's performance was also plagued with technical problems, his "jack" kept falling off the guitar constantly on almost every song.
So it was a bit of a mess.
Can't really tell you about the setlist as I didn't write it all down.
He probably played 12 songs including " What a waster", " last of the english Roses", Katie", " Fuck Forever", "When the lights go out"," Down in Albion". In this order missing songs in between.
Like yesterday it was so hot in here, the place was so rammed, it could have been dangerous, I can't complain as I wasn't crushed, I was in the " vip" area on the left side of the stage.
Hard to believe that this bar has so little consideration for health & safety issues.

some people are trying to breath & survive

Alan Wass came to play harmonica on several songs at the end of Peter's set.

Duet

The show ended at 2:15 AM

Enjoyable night for me but I guess it was a nightmare for the poor bastards down the front.

There's a funny video from Canal+ from the show yesterday ( starts after 1 min ) HERE
