Mr Big @ Bataclan
Sept 16th 2009
Back to the eighties tonight with Mr Big , the last time they've played in Paris was probably 15 years ago.
Same original line-up , incredible : Eric Martin hasn't changed , he's still looking like a teenager even though he's in his forties.
Billy on the left playing his bass like a semi-god , Paul on the right the "Lucky-Luke" of the guitar & Pat keeping the rythm

The sound , in the front is neat but the lightning is shit ( That's probably why, our fellow photographer, Patrice Guino had to used the flash which he really hates doing ).
Anyway the band is on top form , always smiling and happy to be back , finally in Paris after all these years.
Many songs from their first records , some of them sounding very 80's ( meaning aging not too well ) and a few soli from each musicians in between but contrary to other bands these guys are so good in their fields that you never get bored.
Billy Sheehan is such a fantastic bass player., Amazing
Of course they've played the hits (" To be with you" , " wild world" ) and " Shy boy" ( Here on video ) from Billy's David Lee Roth fame years. Show ended with the Who 's " Baba O Riley" ( Here on video too )

Great gig but sometimes I felt like not being at the right place with all these geezers in their late thirties down the front trying to revive their youth.
signing more stuff ...

Bart Davenport ( Kacey Johansing ) @ Brachfeld gallery Paris sept 14th 2009
After seeing The Cribs Featuring Johnny Marr at the Canal+ tv show " L' Album de la Semaine" we went straight to the ( posh ) Brachfeld gallery in the third distric of Paris ( where all the fancy clothes stores and art gallery are situated ) to see Kacey Johansing , who's a VERY talented young folk artist.
She played an Oliver Peel session in July and a few other shows in Paris in the summer.
That was her last show before going back to sunny California tomorrow morning.
Unfortunately we were there too late to see her play. At least we could kiss her goodbye ( see you in May 2010, Love ! )
The gallery is packed with lots of posh and beautiful american girls, and some french too, in designer clothes .
We only could catch Bart Davenport 's performance.
Never heard of that guy before and I was stunned by the quality of his songs , his voice and his guitar playing.
It was like travelling in space and time to the Laurel Canyon at the end of the 60's with James Taylor, Carly Simon, CSN & co...
Absolutely GREAT !
I've listen to his record it's as good as bands like America or the Eagles.
Very nice evening.

The cribs @ L' Album de la Semaine Canal+ Tv Show Paris Sept 14th 2009
The Cribs are doing very well in England as their new record went to N°6 in the charts for its first week.
They're playing the Nouveau Casino tomorrow.
I've never heard anything so I don't know what to expect.
Well it's a typical english indie-pop-rock band , nothing special.
Funny they're dressed like a american college-radio band with converse ,lousy t-shirt and torn up jeans. The bass player is dressed like Kurt Cobain.
Amazing how Noel Gallagher is a Johnny Marr lookalike, same haircut and face.
The gig was ok , no more.

Deep Purple @ Fete de L' Humanité Paris sept 12th 2009
Deep Purple @ Fete de L' Humanité
50 000 people on the site , The Kooks , who did a great set and were welcomed with open arms, had barely left the stage that people are calling already for Deep Purple.Things started in the nicest way with " highway star".
Then we had the classic setlist ( for details see below ) alternating between classics , new songs and less known titles ( " wring that neck" )
The lightshow is superb.
The band is on top form and you can see that they're enjoying themselves.
Maybe the guitar solo and the Keyboard solo should be cut down but it's funny , from the stage , where we are standing now, to see Ian Paice relaxing on the chair while Don Airey is doing his solo parts.
Jean Paul Huchon , smoking a big cigar , President of the "Ile de france" territory who's a fan of rock is there with his family , The Kooks are also enjoying Deep Purple from the side of the stage.
After seeing Blue Oyster Cult for certainely one my favorite show for 2009 , Purple is getting close, Holding the flame of rock high even though there's only one original member.
Setlist
Only 2'44' of " Smoke on the water" (from the stage) sorry :
The Kooks @ Fete de L' Humanité Paris Sept 12th 2009
Hell on earth this place, it's far from Paris and the traffic is mad.
So we get there as The Kooks were playing their 3rd song , the site is packed , more than 50 000 people.
Patrice couldn't get into the photographers' pit , it was too late, so the bastard went straight on stage thanks to his contacts within the music-biz . Some teenage girls would kill their own mother just to be there.
Anyway The Kooks delivered a great set , they have lots of catchy song to sing to and the respons they get from the audience is overwhelming.
Great set by the boys
I've seen them a few times and they've always been good on stage.
For more details see setlist below
Next is Deep Purple , the band we came for...
